Favorite store in all the land. I go in regularly. It's not one of those gimmicky/touristy/we have the hottest hot sauces ever (they do they just don't flex it), hot sauce stores, but rather a gift to the culinary world. Heatonist gives these wonderful burning fruits (peppers) the respect they deserve. You can try anything and TALK TO THE STAFF/ask them questions. They know their sauces and can give amazing recommendations on food pairings as well as find your personal go-to everyday sauce. Big shout out to Ireland who suggested the Bravado Ghost Pepper & Blueberry Hot Sauce with my next bagel and cream cheese. Breakfast will never be the same again. read more

One of the coolest shops in Williamsburg! My boyfriend and I both love hot sauce and basically all the food we eat is a vehicle for hot sauce. It's a small shop but they carry a large selection of hot sauces, some locally made in NYC too. We got to sample hot sauces at the counter and the guy manning the counter was super knowledgeable about all the flavors and levels of heat. Be prepared for your mouth to feel on fire, since you're literally spooning drops of hot sauce into your mouth. One thing I do wish is that they would mark their prices, but the three bottles we bought were around $10-12 each. They take their hot sauce pretty seriously -- definitely worth checking out if you're in the area!! read more

While it looked nice and it seemed they had a nice selection, the woman working the counter had nothing to say about any of them except that she liked one sauce. Couldn't give recommendation about food compliments and she just seemed annoyed I walked in. Might have a selection but don't expect service. read more

I had to give this place 2 Stars, but I really wanted to give it 5. Your experience is going to be almost solely dependent on the 1 person working the front counter. The first time I went the woman at the front counter was EXTEREMLY nice, inviting, patient, and friendly. She was asking me questions about what hot sauces I liked, and was encouraging me to try lots of samples. Because of her encouragement for sample taking I ended up buying a lot more hot sauces then I planned on and couldn't wait to return in the near future. The second time I visited there was a very cold young woman behind the counter, she did not say hi when you came in and was playing with her phone the whole time. She did not offer for you to sample hot sauces and if you asked it seemed as you were a bother. I can say it was one of the most uncomfortable retail shopping experiences I have ever had and I'm probably going to just order online as opposed to making the trip for an unpleasant experience. My first trip was a 5 stars, second trip was a 0 stars. This really breaks my heart because my first trip was an amazing experience. You can find cheaper prices online instead of rolling the dice for a bad experience. read more

Wandered into this gem while walking to the Shmorgesburg this afternoon. Great hot sauces, interesting concept, and fantastic service!! Jasmine was super friendly, funny, and really knowledgeable about all of the sauces. Would definitely go back any day that she's behind the counter. read more

Came in with my husband to find a new hot sauce and buy the "Hot Ones" hot sauce they have. The girl working couldn't have been more rude and condescending (typical Brooklyn hipster type) when we were trying sauces and even when we were making a purchase from her. Completely turned us off to returning to the store. read more

This place is great. Where else can you sample hot sauce before you buy? Even if you're out of town, worth a visit to ship the best sauces to your door. Come prepared to sample, no water provided. read more

The Heatonist is my paradise. Like hot suace?? Wanna try them before buying?? Wanna hang in a cool, non-pretentious space with others that are obsessed with HS??? This is your place. Price is reasonable, selection is well-curated and thoughtful, staff is friendly and the outside signage is always witty and funny. Go there. Eat hot sauce. read more

This store is awesome. At first I was absolutely skeptical of a concept like this but I took a chance, bought a cross section of sauces and I will never go back to boring Tabasco again. Sriracha will always have a place in my heart but a well crafted, artisanal hot sauce is amazing. They don't stock bad hot sauce - so get here and try something new. Your taste buds will thank you. read more

We couldn't resist checking out this cute, trendy little hot sauce emporium based on the punny title. Inside, we were greeted by a very friendly peddler of spice who asked us about our preferences -- heat tolerance, level of down-ness for mustard/vinegar/sweet flavors, etc. She then put together a (free) awesome sampler for us, leting us try sauces to our hearts' content! We ended up with two really fabulous sauces, which, at $10-$12 a pop, are more expensive than your run of the mill tabasco, but are SO delicious and support local small businesses. Would highly recommend this place to all lovers of heatonism! My only question is: why is there no water/milk to sip on between samplings? read more

Love hot sauce?! This is the place for you!! I tried three very different sauces and ended up leaving with a bottle of each. I'll have to be careful how often I come here. ...SO GOOD!! read more

If you love spicy food, you should at least come here once. They carry some of the most interesting hot sauces, and the sommeliers are friendly and not at all pushy. You can sample as many as you want, with a small paper spoon, and then you can walk around and browse some more. But if you are planning to sample many, it's probably better if you try the mild ones first and then the more spicy ones. I made a mistake of trying Fire Water, made with Carolina reaper, in the middle of my sampling, even though it was just a small drop, I felt that my tongue had pretty much gone numb and my esophagus was burning for 20-30 minutes. Still a lot of fun though. I picked out 2 sauces, Homeboy's Habanero and Culley's kiwi hot sauce, delicious! My husband picked Dirty Dick's, geez, what a name. It has mangoes and pineapples, which are things that he normally doesn't like, but the flavor of the sauce is so rich and nice, he loves it! read more

Heatonist - Herbs & Spices Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Holy crap these sauces are amazing! The staff is extremely knowledgeable, the facility is extra clean and elegant, and the prices are super cheap for the artisanal selections that they have. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Now I need to buy a glass of milk so I can't keep typing but seriously though give this place your money. read more

As many of their sauces as they make at Heatonist, they have mastered them all. From the people behind the scenes making sure the sauces are perfect in every bottle, to the people getting the shipments out on time, to the customer service department. They are one of the best companies to have an experience with. Amazing taste, partnered with amazing customer service. Keep it up! read more

Wow. Rudest counter girl ever. My boyfriend said she was rolling her eyes as we were tasting the hot sauce. Completely uncalled for since we were in there for less than 2 minutes. read more

Awesome experience and and a cool place to add some spice to your life!! They have a tasting bar where you can sample a myriad of hot sauces and flavors. The staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. read more

Wanted a platform to share the amazing customer service I had while ordering online from Heatonist. I had an order with a tight turnaround and after placing it, let the service team know and asked if there was any way they could help out. They were extremely consultative and helped me so well that, instead of being on time, my order arrived a day earlier than I needed it. So happy and excited to try the sauces! read more

Really cool space in Brooklyn that has a large range of hot sauce in every complexity you crave. They know their stuff here.

Holy hot sauce! If the hot sauce gods could talk, they'd send you to this place for worship. We did the sauce tasting and loved the Pirate's Lantern Pepper Sauce (with horseradish). The sauce had no sugar, so bonus points for that. I've been putting the sauce on everything, so I shall see you soon to refill my yummy sauce and try a couple more! read more

Ordered 2 bottles of the last dab xxx and received 2 bottles of original classic instead, which is half the price. Customer service has yet to correct this read more

This place is fantastic! You won't find any of your main stream hot sauces; only small batch producers with an incredible variety of flavors. The staff was super friendly and insanely knowledgable about their products. They took hot sauce tasting to the level of a wine tasting. Thanks guys! read more

A unique store with a solid selection of hot sauces. And that's it, just lots and lots of hot sauces. The staff working there are very friendly and more than happy to give you a tasting sample of all the sauces they carry. I walked in just to check it out and ended up leaving with four bottles, good luck! read more

I am absolutely The Heatonist's biggest fan! The sheer number of different sauces can be daunting, but the staff is friendly, knowledgable, and more than willing to let you taste hot sauce until you can't feel your tongue anymore. If you're like me, and always have to have hot sauce in your bag (swag) then I can't recommend this place enough!! read more

Best selections. Every time we're in Brooklyn we make sure to swing by here. We always pick up our classic favorites and try some new sauces out. The staff is friendly and ultra knowledgeable. One of our favorite places in Brooklyn! read more

Very friendly and helpful staff. Gave us multiple samples and helped me create a great gift package for someone with dietary restrictions. Can't wait to go back! read more

Be warned, intrepid travelers, you will not leave this place un-scorched. Heatonist provides the best of the best hot sauces. I would recommend The Classic sauce for those who are on the more cautious side, but they have sauces that dial it up to 11 on the "Holy Sh*t my mouth is on fire" scale. This is Spicelord Heaven! read more

Holy crap! New favourite store! Knowledgeable, friendly staff, and damn fine products. Bravo, sirs.

This place is a lot of fun! I love hot sauce, and the focus on just the hot sauce really made for a unique experience in Williamsburg. I bought a couple hot sauces that I put on everything at home :) read more

The best customer service ever. Bri helped me with everything. She was very knowledgeable about everything. I will definitely be buy from them again. read more

Great store, loved the hot sauces and that I could try them all out. I can't wait to come back again and try any new sauces. -1 star because the lady helping us was on her phone the whole time and not interested in our questions or comments, which was fine because the sauces made up for it! read more

This place is great BUT the tastings don't work on their own. It's obvious how much hard work the guys are putting into the tastings and getting the best and most interesting hot sauces in the store ... BUT Put some tortilla chips out! Rather than the tasting spoons, put FOOD out! Because, who EVER eats hot sauce by itself? You guys are doing a disservice to the sauces by not having chips or something out. Great, great place, though. Great selection and really nice guys. read more

Heatonist is awesome! Definitely the best birthday I've had! My friend and I had our birthday here with about 12 friends. Noah & Tyler were super great to work with and went above and beyond our expectations for the event. We had the back event space and outdoor patio to ourselves with a ton of crackers, cheese, meats, and beer to pair with our hot sauce. They also made an awesome watermelon dish for dessert paired with a chocolate hot sauce. Throughout the night we were able to sample all the different hot sauces and choose our favorite to bring home. Everyone had a blast and it was a huge success thanks to Noah & Tyler! I've come back to buy more hot sauce since and plan on many more visits! If you love hot sauce and are looking for a fun & spicy event, Heatonist is the way to go! read more

A good place to go to for stocking up on spicy items for cooking. I just started eating spicy food. Sometimes it's good to spice things up a notch read more

My brother is a hot sauce collector, so it's fitting I took him here on his most recent trip out. The host was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable about her hot sauces. We tried over a dozen different kinds (they have samplers of ALL of their sauces) and finally settled on two favorites. They also have a large kitchen space in the back, which the host said is for private parties. How cool is that?! read more

This place is awesome! The selection was quite vast and the staff were super helpful. I've been waiting for a place like this forever!

Great experience at Heatonist, tried many different sauces and found some that I really love. Can't wait to try them out at home on my home cooked foods. I found the Heatonist team really helpful in choosing sauces that fit my flavour profile.....not crazy spicy but really flavourful. Fun experience, great products and even got a few gifts for friends back home. read more

I ordered a couple hot sauces from these guys and I received them in the mail very quickly without having to pay for expedited shipping and I live across the country. The hot sauces are great! Even better, I received a personalized HANDWRITTEN note with my order. Heatonist has exceptional customer service and more companies should model themselves after these guys. I will definitely be using them for any and all of my hot sauce needs. read more
