This place was amazing. Heard about it when searching for an Indian spice shop when visiting NYC but Padma Lakshmi wrote about the store in her preface of her spice encyclopedia too (and for the history buffs, it's also located in the former home of President Chester Arthur). My foodie partner was in heaven. We spent over an hour there. Found all kinds of spices he'd never heard of and he picked up some that we have a harder time finding back home. It's an experience even just to see the variety and pick up some unique sweets!

Went here to get spices for a 14th century Egyptian hummus recipe. I needed about 10 different spices and herbs. The place is huge and has a lot of products but the service is atrocious. I asked for help and the man was so annoyed and short with me. I will never go back. I like to support local businesses but I will just get unusual spices and herbs from Amazon next time.

Kalustyan's is a one of a kind food store in Manhattan and, in reality, anywhere I know. Love this place! Highly recommend heading over to this Lexington Avenue Curry Hill marvel to see for yourself! Spanning 2 floors of 3 connected buildings, it offers an encyclopedic range of spices, herbs, sauces, condiments, and teas from Asia and other parts of the world. Much of the store's selection is under their own label, including its owner brand Marhaba. You'll find products from every continent except Antartica, including some truly exceptional specialty items hard to find elsewhere. While much of Kalustyan's items are shelf-stable, they do offer truly some exquisite fresh, prepared, refrigerated and frozen products. What I especially appreciate on Kalustyan's and Marhaba branded ingredients are the on-pack descriptions of what that item is and may be used for, coming in handy where there may be multiple formats or varieties of an item. Plus, the helpful staff are ready to assist you in navigating your shopping experience. If you enjoy cooking or just are a foodie, Kalustyan's is a destination to explore. Bring a tote because you'll discover something you'll want to take home with you. Alternatively, you may find a wonderful treat to gift a cook or foodie in your life. Myself bought there cardamom seeds for baking Scandinavian cinnamon rolls and curry mixes to experiment with, but often I find something additional to get. So many aisles, so many treasures... from exotic to more mainstream. You'll find at Kalustyan's a selection of baklavas, halvas and other Asian pastries, a wall of chutneys, a section of every dried mushroom you could think of, plus I can't imagine an imported chili or curry spice or sauce that exists that they don't have. They stock amazing dried fruits, nut assortments, oils, vinegars, as well as jellies, jams, and preserves... from lingonberry to quince. Kalustyan's shelves include sweets like gourmet chocolates and the best Maraschino cherries, also wonderful savory baked goods such as hand made zatar and muhammara breads. In the store's coffee nook, the powerful aroma will draw you in. Kalustyan also has a selection of some exotic cookware. Although many of the goods at Kalustyan's you can find in-store elsewhere, never have I seen elsewhere such a comprehensive array of foods and ingredients all in one shop.

This spice shop is unlike any other! It offers every masala, hot sauce and tea you can think of as well as items like Turkish delights, parathas and other appetizers. You could easily get lost in here for an hour in the best way, it's a great place to explore if you're trying to spice up your life or do something more creative with your chicken. The one thing I've had reservations about is shelf life and how old some of these are, probably best to ask a store clerk about this. The prices are also a bit more expensive than most. Other than that, highly recommend this place! It's like a museum for masala :)

Kalustyan's was a fun spot to visit! I went with my boyfriend when it was too cold to be outside in NYC, and we spent an hour walking through the aisles of spices, teas, dried mushrooms and flowers, kitchen equipment, and much more! While this grocery store definitely has the largest selection of spices and teas I've ever seen, it was also fairly expensive for cooking spices. I would recommend going here to shop for specific specialty spices not found elsewhere or for gifts for friends/family as there's definitely a premium.

About a week ago, we decided to go into the city for lunch. It was a beautiful Sunday so after lunch we walked around "little India" which is by 26th Street and Lexington Ave. My husband and I stepped in this store to what they were selling. We browsed through the many aisles, they seemed endless. Shelves were filled with spices, nuts, spice mixtures, cooking sauces, teas, coffee beans, frozen entrees, ice cream, and more. I don't think there's enough space here for me to list everything we saw that day. I was shocked at all of the items that were available. One thing is for sure, they had all of the spices we needed to make biryani.I don't have to go to NJ to get them anymore. Some of the prices were big but I guess that's Manhattan for you. The staff were friendly and helpful when we asked where certain ingredients were located. You should visit this store if you haven't checked it out yet.

A million years ago, in the mid 80's when I lived nearby on 33rd & 2nd Ave, Kalustyan's was a treasured museum of amazement. In those days, it was impossible to find such luxurious spices, dried fruits, herbs & treats in the US. Sure, I traveled to Turkey and had exceptional Turkish Delight, Halvah, teas & spiced dishes. But not here really and I was not up near Fairway or Zabar's in those years, not yet aware of Penzy's. Now, almost 40 years later, while amazingly vast & well stocked, not as amazing. A small yet nice selection of cookbooks. Still, a nice destination to wander through the vast isles of dried peppers, & mushrooms, salt & pepper, spices & teas. The aroma is delightful, sight of the sweet treats inviting. A must if you are a cook or foodie and in the area. I wonder how they move the huge inventory, items that may not be as popular. Maybe it's best to shop in a small boutique type of spice shop, who knows !

I love this place! My son lives near here and we go often. The selection of herbs and spices is beyond comprehension! Anything and everything!

I visited here again last week. My former review remains the same. As promised, I'm attaching some photos.

Any food lover should come here as their first stop for any spice or ingredient that might seem obscure. There's a 99% chance that it's carried at Kalustyan's and more! Who knew there so many varieties of cardamom! I came here to buy some middle eastern spices for a Yotam Ottolenghi recipe. Their specialty seems to be Indian and Middle Eastern ingredients BUT they have everything. It's such a pleasure to roam the aisles and just look and learn.

Truly amazing selection of spices, teas, rice, beans, sugar, salts, and more. What a place. If they don't have it it doesn't exist.

A great place for most spices anyone can think of. There are more nooks and crannies of interesting goods than anywhere in nyc.

Great spices. I love them so much. I order all the time. I highly recommend Draculas nightmare…read more lol. It is so good!

So I love food, but hate to cook - and that is why I love Greenpoint Trading spices so much! I…read morecooked for my friend the other night & he was shocked by "what an amazing cook" I am...joke's on him... all I do is add GPT's Coffee Rub &/or El Capitan to anything and suddenly I'm a genius in the kitchen ;) I have a TON of their spices, trying to remember them all... but my other go-to jars are Black Bear, Dracula's Nightmare, and Sedona Red! My co-worker is a VERY picky cook and is the daughter of an old school Brooklyn butcher; I gifted her some GPT spices over 5 years ago for a holiday gift & she's been a cult follower of theirs ever since!! I also love to send my relatives in California a gift card to Omaha Steaks with a basket of various Greenpoint Trading spices... its a hit every time! I don't write reviews often, but when you walk into their adorable shop in BK, you can't help but to fall in love with them and want to do everything you can to help the brand grow & grow & grow! If you're there on a weekend, you also may get to meet the owners (the cutest married couple) & their adorable little boy who pops in to say hello from time to time :) One last thing... I started following them on Instagram recently & get THE BEST ideas of what the spices are good to use on. For example, I would have never thought to put Coffee Rub on my avocado toast... and now it just seems like cardboard without it!!!
