I first seen Heatonist from watching Hot Ones show with Sean Evens he is a wonderful host ! The show is celebrities coming in and trying 10 hot sauces, and Sean will ask them questions in between. The sauces get spicier as the go . After I seen the show I ordered that season the exact line up and I hosted a Hot Ones challenge at my home with waivers and everything . I was the host and I asked questions it was an amazing time .. after that I started ordering different hot sauces I got my favorite sauces I have to always stay stocked with and I order new ones to try out . Online I get points the more I buy I get more discounts they also offer a birthday discount on the month of your birthday super cool ! I recommend signing up for the points online so worth it . I get my packages delivered fast and all my hot sauce bottles are packaged very careful and neatly for safe delivery. They all come with cute stickers . Some of my favorite hot sauces that I can't be with out are Truffle Fire Hot Sauce from Seed Ranch Flavor , AJI PEPA HOT sauce by Savir foods and Dill Pickle Serrano Hot Sauce from Heartbeat Hot Sauce . I bought a 3 pack of Hetonist hot sauces on 12/12 and thier promise was to ship within 24 hours. The package arrived 12 days later - on Dec 24th - in a large unpadded envelope. The glass bottles inside were broken due to inexcusably poor packaging. I contacted the customer service and got a refund, after saying I would do a charge back with the credit card, but NO APOLOGY. It's the Holiday and my package was unable to be given as a gift. No clue what imbeciles they use to ship their product but what a truly sad way for a company to behave! They're evangelizing the versatility of hot sauce and I'm all for it. I'm posting this review for one reason and one reason only: I've bought a lot of sauces from Heatonist (more than 10). And I always post reviews on their website. As you can tell from my Yelp account, I like to critique and evaluate things. So anytime I order a sauce, I do a review and post it on the site. What I've noticed is: if I leave a 5-star review, it's on the site within seconds. Often, on page 1 of the "review" section for any given sauce. But anytime I post something less than 5-stars... it's super hard to find the review, and the majority of the time, it doesn't even get posted. I've left numerous 3-star and 4-star reviews for sauces that were good, but had some big, glaring flaw (that I wish I knew about before buying)... and EVERY time I do that, the review gets lost, or buried on page 5-6 of the reviews. I dunno. If it only happened once or twice, then no biggie. But it's happened 5 or 6 times now. At this point, I think something shady is going on. Because they have no issues posting 5-star reviews... just the 3-star ones. I think if you're going to selectively post 5-star reviews, then you need to rename the section. Don't call it "reviews." Call it "endorsements." Because calling a section of your website "reviews," and then only posting the positive ones, is dishonest. It leads customers to think the sauces are much better than they actually are. Besides that one, single issue, I couldn't be happier with Heatonist! read more

I love the heatonist, and their hot sauce so giving this 5 stars. We've been wanting to come here for about 3 years, and finally made it. A handful of hot sauce to try and many off menu hot ones/heatonist varieties, we bought 3. I will say I thought it would have been more of an ordeal, seems to be a huge back room for staff/parties, idk, so felt a little bit cramped in the front. I don't know what I was expecting, but it's a store so just be prepared that its more of a store than an experience. read more

Amazing customer service and knowledge from staff. !! I was walking by, and thought is there really a store just for hot sauces? I went in and the staff was so friendly and welcoming. I asked two different people about 10 questions each about the history of the store, hot sauce ingredients, why is this even so popular?? I tried four different hot sauces and bought a few as gifts. I absolutely think buying $20 hot sauce is really luxurious and maybe even unnecessary, but after talking with the staff trying all the different flavors I truly see how creating a hot sauce is ART and can add so many different dimensions and flavor to a dish that you're creating. I've not been to the actual building and maybe one day I'll make my way there but for now I do online orders. I've ordered once before and enjoyed all the sauces. Today I went and ordered again and ran into a load of issues. Reached out to customer service and we talked about what maybe causing the issues I was running into. In the end they allowed me to place my order through the online store and still get the promo for Halloween weekend. Rachel was super awesome in communicating with me and getting back to me on what we could do. She was the reason I was able to order from the site and still be able to get the promo. I've heard about a store that sells a whole bunch of different kinds of hot sauces in NYC. I rarely go to brooklyn so that's saying something. I'm actually retarded and we got so caught up in conversation on the way over on the L that I totes forgot to get off on my stop. Don't you HATE when that happens? It's so embarrassing. We had to get off and go back around on the other side to go back one stop. Don't tell anyone. Not a far walk from the Bedford Ave L stop. They have a very good collection of very interesting and unusual hot sauces. I actually don't think I've ever seen any of their varieties before. I happen to be pretty familiar with hot sauce and proudly have half a fridge door shelf full of those bad boys. It's definitely an advantage to have many different types to suit the flavors of different cuisines and dishes. The best part about this place is you can legit go up to the dude behind the counter and TRY ALL OF THEM!!!! It's really cool. Find me another place that does that shit. No but really, if there is, let me know. Especially if it's closer to midtown. It's really sick to be able to like try them, especially because this guy knows them super well and can make suggestions regarding flavors and cuisines and pairings and whatnot. They have this spicy HONEY and it was DELICIOUS. It's really a dope place. Also, warning: even for someone with a spice tolerance such as myself, trying hot sauce over and over again, especially on the same part of your tongue (I obviously didn't think that through) gets very painful after a while. I bought this mustardy hot sauce that I rather liked. I could have bought a million of them actually but they're on the expensive side. The one I got cost $10. Is that not a lot? I'm used to like $6 cholula. They also don't have any like regular hot sauces in case you're like, "oh shit...I'm actually almost out of my tapatio" or some shit but that's probably intentional. I feel like some things are staples that should be there like west indian. I guess that's not "fine" enough (they say they're purveyors of fine hot sauce). A friend ordered a hot sauce for me. It was delivered a total mess as it came with the glass container broken. I sent an email with pictures of the broken hot sauce with the contents spilled all over the packaging. I have yet to hear anything back. I say do not order online. They do not know how to package. I love spicy! Its all about the flavor and the burn.. the more i feel like im committing tastebud suicide the better. I bookmarked this place because it was recommended by a friend. While i didn't have the pleasure of experiencing this place first hand i was there in spirit. My husband made the trip out there to pick up some sauces recommended by his friend. The store closes at 8pm on Saturdays but he was able to request a few sauces of interest. Upon arrival the sauces were nicely wrapped and packaged. Did i mention he arrived a few minutes after closing time? That's customer service for ya! Sauces are tasty. But im still looking to find one to my own liking.. for that near to death feeling bahahaha.. I plan on going in two weeks time. They literally have a hot sauce buffet! Ive been attending the nyc hot sauce expo for the past 7 years and i love being able to sample before buying. Heatonist is the place for you - sample then buy! they have an array of craft hot sauce. Its a very simple and small store. No thrills, just show up and sample and grab a delish hot sauce. prices depend on the sauce themselves, some can be 8.00 and some can be 12.00. They have a hot sauce tasting area where you can try each of their hot sauces that they have for sale, from mild to hot. I walked in determined to burn my mouth off. I asked for their hottest hot sauce. It was some Asian inspired habanero hot sauce that left me disappointed. I asked for the second hottest, that was disappointing as well and it had a silly name, "Zombie Apocalypse Sauce" I reluctantly purchased #2 out of sheer politeness however upon generously pouring it into my Doritos Locos Taco at Taco Bell, i realized this was no joke! Lucky there was unlimited Pepsi refills because i was in agony! HOLY CRAP THIS WAS AMAZING!!!! I think the reason the taste test failed was because the pipette used to extract the hot sauce failed to extract any habanero seeds so it was nothing more than greasy chili oil. If you're here for a taste test, pour a dab onto the spoon for a real sample. read more

Maybe I was there on an off day, but wow, the guy behind the counter really wasn't helpful. For a store that only sells hot sauce, learn to talk about the product. Yes, I get that it's spicy and some sauces are hotter than others... The whole not talking about the hot sauces themselves, kind of awkward. For the bar, I get that water doesn't help, but if you're going to offer a tasting bar, probably offer something. Heatonist my new favorite place. They offer a wide variety of hot sauces that do not have any preservatives. If you are a heat and flavor junkie then this is the place for you. They allow you to sample the hot sauces via tester strips before you buy them which is really great because it allowed me to be satisfied with my purchases. It also allowed me to avoid any mistakes buy buying something that I would not like and having buyers remorse. By allowing me to test it I ended up spending about $30 on hot sauces. If hot sauces are life for you expect to spend between $30 and $40 dollars here. The staff here are very inviting,knowledgeable and friendly. You wont find any CRAP here. Been meaning to come to Heatonist since it opened up a few months back. I finally had free time and whilst in the area, why not. I only got a couple straight forward comments for a straight forward, small, basic shop but a clean, cool and interesting concept of a store. Do I like hot sauce? Yes. Am I a fan of hot sauce? For sure. How many bottles of hot sauce are in my fridge? A good handful. How many different hot sauces have I tried in all my years of hot saucin'? Over 100. I wish I could have sampled all of them. But I only tried three to not be hot sauce greedy: Mike's Hot Honey, a NYC labelled one with graffiti label and one where the cool and really friendly host asked me if I liked mustard...whoo yeah mustard hot was a better kicker than the Hot Honey, which is more sweet from the honey then a medium heat kicks in. The NYC graffiti labelled bottle has a medium kick also. The only problem is when you walk in, which of the many, many, many bottles and jars to choose from. Besides the label, how do I know which is worthy of buying? Well anyway, $12 a bottle for Hot Honey is worth the honey and hot sauce in supporting a novelty, hipster, unique concept.
