I hired Heather's Houses to stage my modern farmhouse home prior to listing it for sale, expecting a professional service that would enhance--not detract from--the space. Despite already having a clean, decluttered home, I was looking for tasteful additions to elevate the existing decor.
Heather promotes a philosophy of staging for prospective buyers and emphasizes clean sightlines and strong visuals for photography. That sounded great in theory, so I signed a contract for $3,795. Unfortunately, what followed was anything but professional.
While Heather was on vacation, her team staged my home on June 9th. I returned that evening to find a shocking downgrade: key pieces of my own high-quality furniture had been removed and replaced with mismatched, low-grade items. The design choices were baffling--orange and teal accents clashed with the existing aesthetic, recycled magazines were scattered throughout the house, throw pillows looked disheveled, and a wine display was carelessly crammed onto a small table, creating clutter rather than appeal. The few decent elements left were my own belongings, simply rearranged.
With professional photos scheduled the next day, I had to undo nearly all of the staging myself--with the help of friends--in order to present the home properly.
After expressing my concerns to Heather in a direct conversation, she apologized and said she'd follow up upon returning from vacation. I requested a partial refund and asked that her team retrieve the staged items. To my surprise, she refused both. Instead of addressing any of the specific concerns I raised, she dismissed them entirely and flat-out rejected any financial compromise. Even more troubling, she then filed a mechanic's lien on my home.
The lack of accountability, communication, and basic professionalism throughout this process has been unacceptable. I would not recommend Heather's Houses to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality staging services. This experience was a major disappointment from start to finish. read more
