After several questions, queries and quotes with regard to having my old range removed and replaced with a stove, I came upon Hearth and Homes. I chose a stove from their comprehensive collection and arranged dates for the team to extract the range and install the stove. Even up until the moment of their arrival, I was having second thoughts. For over two years the range, my old friend, had provided me with warmth, cooked food, a little hot water and a little light, when I had no gas, oil or electricity. Was it a wise decision to replace it? Yes, it was. The team, Mark, Harry and Nathan had the best of human qualities, kindness, thoughtfulness and humour, as well as those one would expect from professional workers, diligence, reliability and the ability to face a challenge with great optimism wonderful.
When the work was finished and the chaps had gone, my neighbour and I sat with our Gin & Tonics gazing into the quietly burning logs no spitting out of scorching splinters, no bellowing smoke, all was peaceful, we were mesmerised (G&T may have contributed). The following day two of my young granddaughters and I snuggled together on the hearth, making stories from the intriguing shapes formed by the burning logs. Such very special moments. Of course, there was lots of cleaning to do. An old range can't be extricated from an ancient 300 year old house without some dust, gritty lime mortar, or sticky soot escaping. But cleaning is therapeutic, especially when areas are discovered which haven't seen a cleaning implement, ever.
This has been a lovely experience, the stove sits perfectly in the great chasm left by the range and I look forward to many years of glowing, comforting warmth on wintry evenings. I would recommend this merry band of boys, Mark, Harry and Nathan to anyone considering having a new stove installed. I wish them health, happiness and prosperity. read more
