Have you every thought that you deserve an ocean view while sipping on some wines? You're in luck. Pet friendly for dogs on leash this place has quite the view of the ocean. They have a little shop inside for merchandise and snacks. Some days there is a food truck as well. I would have to say my top 3 of wines i tasted was 16' proprietor cabernet sauvignon just $105 a bottle..... In second place 16' the point was delicious. Third was the 2018 pergoia petite syrah which is significantly more affordable than my other two favorites. The staff has great attitude. I like how they deliver the tastings with the metal carriers it has flair!

Came to the Fall Release Party and enjoyed the lovely wine and beautiful patio. The tasting room is always so inviting and friendly. Make sure to stop by in your next Paso trip!

My husband and I belong to Hearst ranch winery, so we were at a pick up party. So much fun they had music and Chef, Rachel. I wish she had a restaurant. I loved her sample food so much. We had all reds and my favorite was Tempranillo. we especially love going to the winery in San Simeon as when you get your wine you're outside and you look out over the ocean. Fun time for all.

Made a trip to Hearst Ranch Winery on our way to the beach and it was super quiet but quaint and cozy. I am a member of this winery and of course there is no comparison to the San Simeon location. But I still enjoyed the exceptional service and delicious wine!

Great wine tasting. Excellent service and advice on the wines. How can you go wrong with these views and great wine. Make sure to get a sammich across the street to enjoy with your wine tasting.

I had a great experience at Hearst with Grace this weekend. My partner and I made a reservation for Sunday at 1:30, and we happened to be the only people there at the time (that was short lived but nice while it lasted). Our pourer was really knowledgeable and even poured us some wines not on the tasting menu. We ended up getting a couple bottles - one of a lovely white cuvée and one of a petite Syrah. I cannot understate how relaxing the vibe was. Once we started sipping, we sat back in the chairs, listened to the birds, and soaked in the rays while gazing across the vineyards and farms in the area. It's a really different tasting room compared to San Simeon, and one absolutely worth experiencing. Pro: - super mellow any other day than Saturday - relaxing, calming vibe - snacks for purchase Con: - it's out there!

    Really good Zin!!

Me and my girls enjoyed the views, wine and exceptional service from Grace :) she is a sweetheart. Very personable and again...super quiet, gorgeous woods surroundings for an intimate experience to treasure here on the west coast. We will be back, a must visit gem!!

Hearst Ranch Winery in Paso Robles is dog friendly. My husband, our little girl dog and I came by this winery on a Friday, rainy late morning. When we arrived, the place was empty (possibly because of the rain?). We were greeted by a friendly employee behind the tasting counter. She was delighted to see our little girl dog and actually told us that we could let her go off leash (but of course if another guest comes in, we would leash her again). My dog seemed very happy to be off leash in this small tasting room as she went behind the bar to inspect everything (what a Yelper) and back to us around the bar. Anyways, we both had a voucher for a free wine tasting for two from a previous hotel stay we had on a previous trip out to this part of California (typically tastings cost $15 per person). To be honest, I am more of a dessert wine/ sweet wine kind of person. I do like some rose but for the most part, my palate for wine is rather limited (I'm not nearly as sophisticated as most for wine). So I didn't really like any of the wines offered, even their sweetest wine that this winery carries (they are not known for dessert wines). But my husband did like some of the wines, but unfortunately not enough to purchase. During our tasting experience, the employee hostessing us left for her lunch break and another employee filled in during that time. He was also very friendly and enjoyed our company and especially our little girl. This employee (sadly I forgot both of the employees names) was helpful in suggesting a few wineries for me to try since I had told him I prefer very sweet wines. One thing that I like about Paso Robles is that there isn't really that competition among wine makers/ wineries. Businesses just want to encourage support among each other and are more than happy to suggest other wineries to try. Overall, we had a nice experience here, even though we left empty handed. I greatly appreciated that there was no pressure to purchase any bottles of wine during our tasting.

Hearst Ranch Winery is so lovely! We love the San Simeon location and became wine members there. We decided to stop at the paso location on our most recent visit and loved it! The woman working was knowledgeable and kind. She even called halter ranch for us to make a lunch reso, so sweet of her! The Tempranillo was a highlight. Next time we hope to bring lunch and enjoy their outdoor area. Can't wait to come back & for our April wine shipment.

I've been a wine club member for years. It was the first winery where everything on the tasting menu was delish! Enjoyed a wonderful pick-up party in Paso this weekend. My first event with Hearst. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. Jim and Debbi the owners were there making their rounds, as was the wine maker. If you are a red fan...this wine is for you. It is so approachable and priced nicely (especially for members). Tasting room in San Simeon has been renovated and I cannot wait to check out.

I wish I bought a few bottles of this.

Got a Muscat and 2 red that I don't remember. The Muscat is really good though and I highly recommend buying more then one bottle. With covid procedures they were not doing tasting, so we just bought 3 bottles, cheese and crackers.

Wine tasting is by appointment only. We made an 11 am appointment for a Thursday morning. There is an automatic gate at the bottom of the hill and you call to have it opened when you arrive. Mr. Degher greeted us when we arrived at the top of the hill. He has an indoor and outdoor tasting area. It was such a beautiful morning, we did our tasting on the patio outdoors. We tried several wines, including a Viognier, Chardonnay, a couple grenaches, a few cab blends, and a beautiful unfiltered port. All the wines we tried were very good. After tasting wine, Mr. Degher took us for stroll around his property. He gave us cuttings of rosemary, lavender, oregano, and bay leaf. We bought 4 bottles of wine, which waived our tasting fee. Mr. Degher is also an accomplished musician who has composed and performed many songs, which he has recorded and can be purchased on CD. Don't miss an opportunity to visit this beautiful little gem at the top of the hill!

Since it's more of boutique, the bottles are quite pricey, mostly ranging near the 100s. But it was our favorite the whole weekend we went there. And we bought 6 bottles. Four Sisters Ranch hosted one of the warmest, most welcoming events I've attended in Paso Robles wine country. Between the music, wine, food, art, vineyard views, genuinely kind people, and one VERY sweet winery dog, the entire evening felt joyful instead of performative. I especially loved connecting with Serena and Elizabeth and learning more about the story behind Four Sisters Ranch -- a winery built from decades of grape growing, craftsmanship, medicine, wellness advocacy, creativity, and community connection. And honestly? Finding out Serena studied both bio-engineering AND mixed media art may have been my favorite surprise of the evening. That is exactly the kind of beautifully layered human Paso Robles seems to attract. But beyond the hospitality, what really stayed with me was learning more about the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail collective itself -- wineries supporting one another while also giving back through scholarship and agricultural education efforts benefiting the local community. THAT is what makes Paso different. The people here still feel connected, and the wineries still feel human. Already looking forward to returning next Saturday for the Wine Club Pick-Up Party and seeing everyone again at the Under the Estrella Sky Charity Gala in August.

I explained I had been to a few other wineries on the San Miguel side and he said, you know, we're part of the Pleasant Valley Wine Trail (13 wineries on the San Miguel side). I didn't even know about that, but come to find out some of the wineries I previously visited were part of the trail. I was thankful to Pedro for this, as it helped me plan out the rest of that day on the trail. This particular trip to Paso was a few days before the Labor Day holiday weekend. I wanted to get away, but also wanted to be as safe as possible, by going at a time where I felt there would be fewer people. In the morning a few hours before my visit, Vicky called to confirm my appointment. I appreciated that and I'm sure she did too. Vino Vargas is on the far end of the trail, so it's a little bit of the beaten path, but so worth it. Because appointments are highly recommended during this time of COVID, I happened to be fortunate enough to be the only one at the winery at that time. It was such a great experience. I was able to have a great (socially distanced) conversation with Vicky. Learned so much about her and Pedro's wine-making journey, and the wines they make. I suspect it's not something that would happen with much regularity on any non-COVID style scenario where tasting rooms are typically full or busy. The wines were also delicious. I'm not much of a white wine drinker, so I passed on that option on the tasting menu and went straight for the reds. I wound up buying four bottles - 2017 Toro Tinto Tempranillo, 2016 Rio Ruso Pinot Noir, 2017 El Taxi Cabernet, and Paso Rosa Rosé Dessert Wine. I was very luck to have gotten one of the very last bottles of the Paso Rosa and I was thrilled, because it is absolutely delicious. If you can make Vino Vargas part of your Paso Robles adventure, I would highly recommend it. Pedro and Vicky are the nicest and so love what they do. Their wines speak so much about the care they take in making them.

Let me preface this with this - I rarely write reviews, and never have had to write a bad one…read moresadly. I believe sometimes companies have off days, and employees may have a bad day, which can affect one's experience, thus I dont let one bad experience ruin a company's review. But when it comes to my CHILD, you best believe i will never forgive and forget or let our experience be forgotten. We visited this winery expecting a relaxing, family-friendly experience and instead left with our daughter crying after being scratched in the face near her eye by the owner's off-leash dog. What makes this especially frustrating is that the winery's own rules state dogs must be leashed, yet the owners' dogs were roaming the property freely. Our daughter was calmly petting one of the dogs with me standing directly beside her when the dog suddenly growled and scratched her across the face. This was completely unprovoked and witnessed by the owner himself, who said absolutely nothing afterward. No apology, no concern, no accountability. An employee later approached us and said, "Sorry, he's old and maybe didn't like that she was the same height as him, which made him react".....which felt less like accountability and more like an absurd attempt to excuse why a reactive dog was allowed to roam off leash around guests and children. We also observed the dogs behaving territorially toward other leashed dogs on the property, making it even more inappropriate that they were allowed off leash in a public setting. My father-in-law is a VERY well known, well respected, and prominent winemaker in Virginia and across the United States, if you know anything about wine, you know him. So lets say, we understand winery culture and hospitality, fairly well. Had something like this happened on his property, it would have been handled immediately and professionally with genuine concern for the injured guest.....especially a child. Watching the owner casually continue on in his conversation with whomever, and pet the dog like nothing happened while our daughter screamed and cried was honestly unbelievable. In my opinion, not worth the visit for the subpar wine, if you want to take your children/dog somewhere. The poodles were friendly to me, and other adults, until we saw their behavior to other dogs & then my child....The complete lack of concern from ownership after a child was injured was shocking. Frankly, they are fortunate we chose not to escalate the situation further. Parents should absolutely be cautious visiting here with children or pets. An off-leash dog with territorial behavior has no place interacting freely with guests. Absolutely shocked and the owner should be ashamed of his actions & response (or lack there of) to the situation.
