I tried them last year and found it too pricy…read more But then as I went around to other places in town, I just kept thinking about this workout format and the way I felt after doing some of the workouts. I did a trial run earlier this summer, and just bit the bullet and joined after that. As a result, Ive been to this studio a number of times recently, I found tis location to be perfect some days. Its much smaller than the Tonawanda location, which is good and bad. Good because there are fewer people in each class, bad because its often full for each class. Ive never been here with more than one instructor, and at Tonawanda's there is almost always 2, if not three but I imagine that has to do with size of class. The format is this - They create 6 workouts (Mon-Sat) which they then do for 4 weeks. Each workout is designed to hit different areas of the body, and some days have more weight and less cardio than others, they mix it up. Each class starts with the same tape to get everyone stretched out and ready for the next 50 min. Then there is a short cardio burst to get the blood flowing, and a longer section with some burpees or squats or whatever they think of. Then you pay attention while the instructor shows you what each exercise of the day is. By week four those demos don't take quite as long, but they still cover them all each day, and show you the various different levels for each exercise. Well trained group of instructors. Then the class starts, usually that portion is between 22-25 min. as you go from exercise to exercise. There may be some sort of 3 min end exercise, they often involve squats Ive found. Then the same cool down tape plays and everyone does that. Class ends as the instructor brings everyone into the middle for a "tip of the day". Sometimes those are super interesting, other times they are so-so. I don't think those are spelled out from corporate, I think they make them up themselves, which could explain why some are better than others. They have improved their website experience by joining mindbody, so that's nice. There is another location coming in Cheektowaga this fall. I look forward to checking that out too. This place is the home of the "6 weeks 20 lbs" challenge, and you'll have challengers in most classes. I cannot stress enough how much support these people get from the instructors and members in their goals. Most hit the goals if they show up to class and follow the diet plan. This was my first time in a gym, in a very long time, since way before COVID 19 and wasnt sure what to really except when taken a class. My class choice was the 9 - 9: 50 am with Brandy for HITT Strength . The class consisted of 8 stations that were demonstrated prior to starting, which made me the beginner feel at ease, and comfortable. The music playlist was a perfect blend to get your seasoned veterans, as well as unseasoned like myself motivated to work and getting those muscles moving. If your looking for an instructor with a flavor and colorful personality give Brandy and her class a try. The lock rooms were clean, spacious and it was nice to see wipes for equipment and santizer. The smoothies helped replenish protein, after a workout, wide selection, may have been a bit pricey, but well worth it for the quality. Other staff, I came in contact were helpful and friendly which made the experience pleasent.

These classes are open to all residents of WNY, and you dont even have to register. You just show up! I always loved seeing families that would show up to work out together. I had such a blast last summer taking a variety of different classes - everything from cardio kickboxing to yoga to bootcamps to pilates to tai chi. You name it, they probably had a free class for it. They are all 60 minutes long and taught by YMCA instructors. Most of the classes are during the evening during the weekdays and in the mornings on the weekends, which make them easy to fit around your schedule. Last year they had over 20 different locations all over WNY, but by far my favorite location was Wilkeson Pointe down at the outer harbor. So many beautiful Saturday mornings along the water. We never had anything like this in CA where I am from. You WNYers dont know how lucky you have it to have such amazing free programs like this that are free and open to everyone. I cant wait for another season of classes to start!

Each week we do different exercises utilizing kettle bells, bands, dumbells and bodyweight. My friend and I like it so much we have signed up for the next round of Buffalo Meltdown. This one is for 8 weeks with a similar theme. Love the fact they have these weekly events to sign up for or you can sign up for a yearly membership. The only downside for me personally is I live in Tonawanda so the drive is a little far. So far once a week is totally worth it to get out and moving!

I was continously charged even after my bank investigated it for fraud and refunded me. He runs the charge under a slightly different companies name. Man's a low life and a criminal. All his trainer did was bash him as a scumbag, I should've been out after hearing that once. Place needs to be closed and the owner arrested.

The cost was 379.00 per month . The receipt that I have says "90 Day Kickstarter". There is no doubt that I signed up for a 90 day program. The first charge the owner puts through on October 20th is for $779.00 which is not what I budgeted for. The owner made up some b.s. about prorating. Sounds a lot more to me like he has a cash flow problem because he is billing me for almost 2 full months. And, he was autatically extending my 3 month membership to 4 billable months because I didn't start my membership on his billing date?? Btw, there was also a promotion for a FREE TWO WEEK TRIAL which I never got credit for in his zany prorating and creative billing scheme. His irrational billing, which he justifies in his own mind, always results in dollars in his favor. But, hang on it gets worse. As of today, February 2018, 5 months later, the owner, Giovanni Preziuso, refuses to stop charging my account for $379.00 per month, although we are WELL past my 90 day program. He further insists that I have to pay until May, 2018!! I am not kidding. I assumed the charges were made in error and that he would correct the problem when he was made aware of it. I was very, very wrong. This billing is quite intentional. The owner's business practices are unethical and I predict that this will eventually ruin his reputation and destroy his business. I am taking my documentation into the branch today and having my bank rever se the charges. If he wants to persue this, we can take it all the way to court. At first I was dumbfounded. But, now I am pretty angry. The gym itself is quite nice and the other trainers are very professional. However, the billing practices are highly suspect. Buyer beware.

This is not the first time that Gemini caprice has led me astray. Rock Pile is an unpretentious space presided over by unpretentious people, native children of Buffalo and invested in the wellness and growth of this community. The space is capacious and the overall aura is minimalist but functional. You don't need very much to challenge your muscles beyond a squat rack, a barbell (and associated plates), pull-up bars, those gymnast rings, resistance bands and dumbbells: of these there are aplenty. My schedule does not allow me to take classes regularly, but the few I have taken have been challenging and edifying, but also fun. I have done my share of CrossFit gyms in my time, friends. Some are cult-y, some vulgar simulacra of Greek life and yet others run use a shame-based model to motivate. At RockPile, your fitness level does not present a barrier to partaking in CrossFit. Everyone is welcome and you can see it in the determination and confidence in the faces and gaits of the people who work out there. I know the provenance of the name of the gym, but, to me, there is a case to be made for us attendees as individual rocks: jagged, imperfect and in diverse shapes. In Madeline, Matt and Carmen's space, we all fall together in a perfect, coherent pile, our edges complementing each other. In conclusion: baby, I was a fool! They are super welcoming and each class (two run concurrently) has a small group size intentionally so you get personalized attention and good review of your form. They can also help you make accommodations. I started doing grapevines instead of a run one time unprompted and the trainer wasn't mad (which I've had other places). Pretty much as long as you are pushing yourself, being respectful of others, and generally staying in the workout area they recognize it's your workout and not every exercise motion will work for everyone. Been super impressed to hear from friends about the community outside the gym as well and how they're adapting to COVID by participating in the Ride for Roswell and supporting fellow members in the Buffalo Marathon. Again, I learned through my trial week that crossfit is not for me (100% my decision), BUT I'm kinda sad it's not, because this place is awesome.
