1 is too high a rating. Stay away from their teacher training! You have been warned! Room is uncomfortable, teachers act like robots,

Warm is only an hour and only 90 degrees, it's fewer of the traditional poses of Bikram's hot yoga series.

I've heard about the Himalayan Institute for a while, but finally took the plunge and signed up for a 6-week long class series of their "Level II" yoga classes last night. The Himalayan Institute is a wonderful 501(3)c non-profit that offers yoga classes, workshops, lectures, etc inside their elegant mansion on Delaware Ave. When you stop in, you feel like you're inside a cozy home. There's a place to take off your shoes and an immediate bookstore to your left. Further down, there's the main living room where classes take place. It helps to take a class that has 10-12 people and not too much more as the room can get pretty crowded with 16+ people or so I hear. Here's what stands out about the Himalayan Institute: their yoga classes generally center around a meditation-practice. As a result, I feel incredibly relaxed and focused afterward. As opposed to some classes (such as Evolation), where I sweat like I'm inside some Finnish bathhouse and leave the class with more of an exercise high. With most classes, you have to sign up for a full 6-week commitment (usually $80), although they do offer drop-in classes on Thursdays from 5:30-6:30pm for beginners ($5) and on Saturdays (9:30-11am) for a more intermediate ($10) practice. In summary, I adore their meditative approach, yoga teachers as well as the novelty of practicing yoga inside a cozy old mansion. Unfortunately, there are no accessible showers in the facility, but there is a bathroom where you can change.

Prior to the pandemic I did Baptiste style power yoga for several years, but when my studio closed…read moreI fell out on any exercise except dog walking and just couldn't get it back. I started to feel my age, lots of aches and pains. For some reason, this March I decided to purchase an introductory pass to I am Yoga - a studio I had had my eye on for a while, wanting to try 26 & 2 style yoga. Just shy of 4 months later, I can't get enough of this studio or this style of yoga. The studio itself is very nice - I enjoy the setting in the Williamsville village, there is plenty of room to navigate entrances and exits and they have a nice locker room. The hot yoga room is large and comfortable - never feels crowded despite good attendance. You can either choose a dark corner to really settle inward or put yourself near a sunny window. Everyone is very friendly and low key - you never feel any pressure of any kind. The yoga is HOT, but I love that. I know it's not for everyone. I was surprised how much I like the regularity of the 26 & 2 sequence - strangely I never get bored as there just seems to be an infinite journey in each move - hard to explain. I can't believe how much I have strengthened - old injuries (knee surgeries) seem to be healing, aches and pains disappearing, feeling younger and with increased body positivity. The best result is in the area of mental health - my anxiety is much better. This style of yoga I find very meditative. Teachers are great - I take most of the classes from Madeline, but they're all great - they transmit the traditional dialogue, but oddly it never feels scripted. I LOVE that they have 6am classes - really a game changer for getting me there as I have trouble making it after work. I enjoy the Forrest Flow class on Tuesday nights but have trouble getting there regularly. Another factor - the participants are very diverse - from age, to gender, to "ability" level, everybody can be on their own journey, but together! Highly recommend trying out this studio!

Yoga changed my life and I'm happy to say that my journey started in this studio…read more If this is your first time I have some recommendations for you: 1) Everyone is different, but I suggest not eating anything two hours prior class (just to avoid felling sick while in class). They offer 60, 75 and 90 min classes. If feeling uncertain about hot yoga go for the 60 min class and work your body to the 90 min. They also do a 5$ Friday class, just in case you want to try the practice without breaking the bank. 2) On your first day, come early there is a waiver to sign (I think you can also do it online). You'll need a mat and towel, you can borrow them for the first class. On the following class they can be rented. Also there are separate locker rooms for males and females. Inside there is a place for storing clothes, a shower and bathroom. 3) Make sure to bring water into the hot room. I typically bring a 1L bottle of cold water (not frozen). If you forget, bottles of water can be purchased at the studio. 4) Get yourself sometime to settle. I like to get inside the hot room 5-10min before class. Just to get my body use to the heat. If you are not sure about how to do some of the posses I would recommend staying at the back of the room and look upon others. ***Brikram is taught without the instructor making the poses. 5) Don't overdo the postures. Learn to understand your body and give yourself some time to get there. It might take you, weeks, months or years to fully do a pose and that is okay. Go at your own pace. 6) Don't hold your breath. When I started, I used to hold my breath in during certain poses and that made me dizzy halfway through the class. If that happens, lay on your mat (death body pose), take deep breaths until you feel better. Try not to go outside, unless is absolutely necessary. It is very distracting and disrespectful to your classmates. 7) Take advantage of their intro special (39$ for one month of unlimited classes). The first couple of days are tough but within a month you will start to feel and see how your body changes. Lastly, I read previous comments about the smell in the studio. I'm happy to report that the old stinky carpet was changed last year. The new wood flooring looks great and the studio nowadays smells like lavender.

Great new yoga studio on Niagara street right next to Resurgence and upper level of Bootleg Bucha…read more LIM has been around for quite some time doing pop up classes throughout Buffalo but now they finally have a groovy space to call their own. Feel free to bring your own yoga mat but they got you covered if you forget it. Also LIM supplies each class with yoga accessories to use at your liking (think: block, blanket). The space is super chill with yoga instructors who know what they are doing but also won't judge you if you don't know what in the world a Savasana or an Asana is ( yes I just googled those terms). I really enjoy my cardio but it is good to take a moment to just be and chill. LIM definitely sets the bar for allowing you to take some time and reflect while focusing on challenging moves. If you like yoga this is DEFF the place for you. If you're like me and feel hesitant to go because you like your spinning, running, HITT, or whatever it may be - JUST GO anyway - taking 1 day out of your week to break from the norm and really focus inward makes a difference. At least for me anyway. Class times vary check the website for specific times. Also they periodically offer classes and workshops that target specific interests to enhance your practice.
