I was a patient here for about a decade. At first, I was impressed by the quality of care and how knowledgeable and friendly Dr. Baksh seemed to be. I quickly noticed that there was a regular turnover of PAs and other associates. Over the past decade I have been seen by probably 30 different "adjunct" medical associates, but Dr. Baksh usually checked in and my health wasn't particularly demanding, so I stayed with what was familiar. Unfortunately, several years ago, Dr. Baksh changed to a managed care model (through Privia). Since then, the practice has been nightmarish. Confusing portal messages that go unanswered for weeks, then get multiple answers from multiple parties, leading to confusion and chaos. Long office waits. Billing errors. Overworked care providers with bad attitudes being condescending instead of understanding. The staff turnover was such that continuity of care was hard to come by. I had duplicate labs ordered, and was offered tests I didn't need for problems I don't have. Getting medication refills was a hassle. Worse, I developed a concerning condition and couldn't get to care in a timely fashion. When I did manage to make an appointment, I was treated like I was inconveniencing the practitioner (who was new to the practice) by asking her to review my chart and medication history. Finally, after making a few complaints, I was able to speak with Dr. Baksh directly. I was treated like a problem and, like many other recent reviewers have said, asked to leave the practice. But before that, Dr. Baksh revealed that she has thousands of patients, and is dramatically overbooked, which explains all the problems I was having. When I asked what was planned in terms of addressing those problems, she described being "thrilled" with Privia and happy with the way things were. On that alone, I was happy to leave. Unfortunately, after quietly leaving the practice, I learned that Dr. Baksh had contacted other medical providers I was working with and asked them to also terminate my care. This spiteful, playground bully behavior left a patient with known medical needs without care/coverage. Games like this don't belong in healthcare (or adult exchanges of any kind), and sick people shouldn't be put in the position of needing to seek a disciplinary board to address practice grievances while also trying to heal and recover. I was able to find a new practice, and am happy to report that my needs were addressed and I'm happy and thriving now. I want to issue a warning to anyone considering seeking treatment at this practice: DON'T. If you're lucky, you'll simply be overbilled for underperformance. But there's a real possibility of problems falling through the cracks due to overbooking, lack of oversight, and a general "deal with it" attitude at all levels of staffing. There were many red flags I should have recognized from the start, from erroneous labs, to lack of transparency with billing, to negligent communication and lack of responsibility taken. I really liked Dr. Baksh at first and was feeling very positive, but things quickly went downhill. Despite my primary concerns being mental health related and GI related, the doctor recommended allergy testing as part of (in her words) "a holistic approach". I did as she recommended, and when the results came back, she told me they show that I have a peanut allergy. I have been consuming all things peanuts my entire life and never had a reaction, ever. Despite explaining this to the doctor, she prescribed me an epi-pen and advised me to start taking allergy medication daily long term. I thought it was unusual when she asked if I ever noticed chronic congestion or sinus issues and I answered "no", and she stared through me and continued with the allergy recommendations. For mental health help, she referred me to Mindoula, a virtual-only psychiatric group that works in partnership with Healthy Steps. This is where things began to break down irreparably. The first virtual visit I had was with a care manager who told me I have to complete the initial mental health questionnaire so they can pair me with the appropriate mental health providers. I waited for more than a month before I heard back from them. The second virtual visit I had was with another care manager, who had me complete the questionnaire again, and told me they were working on finding me a provider and it could take up to 4 weeks. I waited again. The third virtual visit I had was, you guessed it... another care manager... etc etc. Meanwhile, I had been prescribed an anti-depressant by Dr. Baksh. I had my follow up visit to discuss how the meds are going. I was then told that they have to work with a psychiatry group in order to prescribe these meds, so I should continue to follow up with Mindoula. When I did, the care manager at Mindoula asked me what I talked with the doctor about, I told her the above. She said that it does not sound like we covered Mindoula's recommendations, which Mindoula had sent directly to Healthy Steps ahead of my visit. I told the Mindoula care manager that I do not know what Mindoula's recommendations were, but I explained the discussion that was had about my medication and care plan. The Mindoula care manager then made some disparaging comments, along the lines of "providers don't like to follow our recommendations unless the patient asks them", and told me I should have another follow up with Healthy Steps. She then had me do the questionnaire, and verify my insurance, again. I called Healthy Steps to ask for clarification, but nobody returned my call. About 4 days later I tries again. No response to my phone messages. On a third try, a receptionist told me to use the myPrivia app to send text messages because this is the best way to communicate. I did as she suggested, and the PA responded saying 'we did discuss the recommendations', and summarized the discussion in her message. The point that she was not addressing was that according to Mindoula, this was NOT their recommendation. However, this crucial part of my communication was repeatedly ignored. Basically, I was being yanked back and forth between Healthy Steps and Mindoula and no responsibility was taken by either side. I finally sent a message to Healthy Steps telling them I no longer want to use Mindoula because of this situation. As a side note, the PA also started responding to old text messages that we had already addressed, which added to the confusion. Unfortunately I ended up having to cancel a follow up with Healthy Steps around the time I sent the message due to COVID exposure. About 3 weeks later, Healthy Steps mails me a letter stating that they are terminating our relationship because we cannot agree on quality healthcare. They got the last part right - we definitely do not agree on the meaning of quality healthcare or partnership. They also decided to bill me for the visit I canceled, I discovered after receiving the letter. I canceled that visit with ample notice (days), so this is yet another issue I will have to attempt to take up with them. To Dr. Baksh and the practice manager, I sincerely hope you will reevaluate your protocols and your standard of care. This is a serious mishandling of patient care and incredibly irresponsible. I do also agree with another reviewer's comment that Dr. Baksh is not trauma informed, and the practice is doing a disservice to the community by alienating patients with trauma. read more

Update: Because of my posting, Healthy Steps notified us we were no longer welcome as patients. They said the posting was clear we didn't trust their care. Thing is, I had no problem with the care, just the billing. Not only did they notify me, but they also expelled my husband who wasn't involved. It's apparent if you call them out on fraudulent charges they don't want to deal with you. Would give zero stars if it was an option. I'll be filing a complaint with the BBB and United HealthCare. read more

BEWARE Charged $300 for a virtual visit which they FORCE you do before being able to schedule an appointment. What a scam! They make you sign a disclaimer and force you to provide a credit card because they know insurance does not cover it. The front desk said it should only be $100 at most. Stay away! read more

My experience was not pleasant. I agree with the other here that the billing process is erratic.

I am done with this practice. I waited almost an hour and a half to see Dr. Baksh. She apologized which I appreciated. What I don't appreciate is going over my medication again after only 2 weeks. I also don't appreciate being asked if I want to take another breathing test. Another one? I didn't have one let alone another one. I was told to get a DNA test to check my medications. Fair enough. The woman who did my cheek swab asked me about my Father's bone cancer. What??? She said It says it in my chart. He has no form of cancer at all. Where did she get that information? Lastly, I've been going there almost 2 years. In that time, one doctor and 3(yes 3) physician assistants have left the practice. That raises a red flag to me. I've had other concerns but this is the final straw. I'm giving them one star because the woman at the check out desk is very nice. read more

Dr. Ann Ruffalo is such a thorough physician and if it were up to me, and blueprints existed for Doctors...I would design each and every one after her. She asks just the right questions and gets to the nitty gritty of whatever issues you're having. Unlike some doctors, that require multiple appointments that fail to yield any results. It's infuriating. She also works out an entire regimen with you, instead of throwing medication every chance she gets. If you need it, it's recommended. If you need to eat better and exercise, it's stated. If it's a combination of both, she tells you. This.is.so.refreshing. There's a new team representing Healthy Steps, and I can promise they are EFFICIENT. Every appointment is quick, thorough, and I leave with complete confidence in the way insurance matters are handled. The receptionists are friendly too. The facilities are also well maintained. Called to establish myself as a new patient. Was told to I'd have a telehealth appointment with doctor first and then come in for my physical. I filled out my paperwork, and at the telehealth appointment, she went over it with me. She then billed my insurance for a sick visit, coding it with the "yes" answers on my paperwork (like reflux, event though I said it's minor and I just take Tums occasionally) which cost me almost $200, instead of billing it as preventative care, which my insurance company covers 100%. I called to explain this to the billing specialist, who said this is the policy and refused to resubmit the bill so I'd be covered. The bottom line: if you want to join this practice as a new patient, you will be billed for a sick visit before you've ever been physically seen there. It's not just my experience; the office stated that this is their policy. Also, for those with trauma: the doctor isn't trauma-informed. read more

Do NOT go here. They are solely after your money and will recommend random tests that you don't need so that they can collect extra money. The dr will seem like she really cares but really it's her pretending so that you get these additional tests, which by the way they recommend for every single person regardless of age, current health etc. I know this because I saw with a friend and family members. read more

Dr. Husna Baksh is amazing and she keeps awesome people around her. She's knowledgable, funny, and full of energy. She truly cares about her patients and throughly makes sure her patients are doing well. I'd recommend this place over most doctors offices as they have the capability to do almost everything in one place. The only downside is parking sometimes it can take some time to find a spot but outside of that this place is amazing! read more

This is my first time reviewing anything or anyone, normally I do not get easy impressed easily (I'm a tough cookie). However, with Dr. Baksh is so different, I am in awe and adore Dr. Baksh. I've seen a number a doctors to many I would say and never felt as pleased and passionate as I feel about Dr. Baksh. I love love love Dr. Baksh! She is extremely thoughtful, considering and most important she really really CARES about her patients. I had a new health insurance and was searching for a new primary doctor, read the reviews and made my appt. As a new patient is the first time in my life that a doctor takes time to do a thorough physical exam, Dr. Baksh listens and takes actions right away as well. I was away visiting my family in Puerto Rico, to my surprise the next thing I know is Dr. Baksh sent me a text message to give me some lab results also to check on me. What doctor in this earth will do that...only Dr. Baksh. Also, the staff is very accommodating when it comes to appointments. Highly recommend Dr. Baksh!!! read more

I absolutely adore Dr. Baksh and everyone at Healthy Steps. This is a busy office but I've had no problems getting walk-in appointments when necessary. They'll do their best to accommodate you and they make every effort to coordinate care with other doctors you might be seeing. The thing that resonates with me about this office is you're not just a number. You're not rushed in and out. They make every effort to listen to you and address any issue you might have. The first time I went to see them, I was having what turned out to be some major medical issues. As a new patient whom they'd never seen before, they spent 3+ hours with me that day, talking to me and running a battery of tests. Since then, I've had calls from Dr. Baksh directly (not the staff) over medical problems. When she was unable to get hold of me she's texted me (in addition to VM) and asked me to call her on her cell as soon as I read her message regardless of time. She's called specialists ahead of seeing me, addressed my case with them, then given me their number to call a make a next day (or two) appointment. I share all this so you'll have some kind of idea the lengths HS will go to for you. I've yet to hit a limit with them and am constantly astounded by the time they take for me. I highly recommend them and dread the mere thought of ever having to change doctors. For some extra info about their practice: They solicit feedback frequently in an attempt to approve their practice. They take a fair number of insurance plans and they even have a web portal through which you can see your medical history, the doctors notes and charts about you (kind of surreal this!), email staff, read lab results and who knows what else. Oh and they have an in house Phlebotomist, which is a huge time and vein saver if you ever need to have bloodwork done. I will say, as the other reviewer mentioned, the front desk can be a little cool at times. However, I've found them to be warmer the more you get to know them. With an appointment, the wait times are usually minimal. They can be longer if you're a walk-in but that's to be expected. read more

Love Dr.Baksh and her entire staff. This is the first medical practice I've gone to in my entire life where I felt like I was being seeing and heard as a person, not a number. Dr. Baksh and her entire team are caring and patient. They could use a little "friendliness" training at the front desk, but they get the job done. Seems like a good doctor and good people but I had $2500 worth of labs ordered and only found out the cost afterwards. Turns out they "take my insurance", as in, will process the bills but they are not a tier 1 provider. Meaning they are basically out of network. Ugh, I wish they had been looking out for me a little bit. It's my fault, I should have double check with my insurance company and not relied the doctor's office knowledge. Dr. Baksh has exceptional bed side manner and takes time to know her patients. She may run late because she spends as much time needed with her patients. On the first visit your photo she takes your photo to put a name with a face. At the end of 2017, I returned to Dr. Baksh after several years because I changed my insurance, which allowed me to return to her. She is extremely thorough and orders blood work to screen for all diseases when needed. For example, through physical exam she detected an enlarged thyroid and immediately requested an additional diagnostic. I am so thankful because I had been with Kaiser Permanente for the previous four years and discovered that basic blood testing had not been requested that could have indicated my current medical condition. The staff at Healthy Steps is very prompt and attentive. Healthy Steps has been using scribes for electronic medical records since I first saw Dr. Baksh when was at the earlier stages of her practice. It's wonderful to see how she has grown her practice and the new office location. read more

Came here for a physical exam. The staff was extremely friendly and thorough explaining everything that was going to be done. Doctor Baksh was very nice and very friendly. She moves at a fast pace without making the examination feel rushed. Definitely a good experience overall. read more

If you are looking for a female doctor she is the one. Dr. Baksh has lots of Experience with LGBT patients, and sees your healthcare as a partnership. her front desk staff are very helpful. Labs are done in the same building, she emails and calls you back timely. have been a patient since 2005, and she has provided any referrals I have ever asked for. My first visit was great. Barely any wait, she was warm and personable. I had a thirty minute wait my second visit and was then passed on to a P.A. Healthy Steps recommended a lab tests before a checkup. I called with the labcorp fax number and was told it would be faxed that day. Two days later, at my lab appt., the fax had not been sent. I called and was told that they would do so immediately. Twenty minutes later (still waiting at labcorp) I call back and am told they were busy with other customers and would send it within minutes. Fifteen minutes later after I call again and am put on hold, the fax comes through. I look forward to switching GP's ASAP. read more

Healthy Steps used to be a reputable practice when I became a patient of Baksh's back in 2007. Since then, the service has hit rock bottom. When you call 3 times to request time-sensitive medical advice from an offic eand they fail to respond in the 3 weeks following said request, there's a problem. When your appointments are cancelled and then rescheduled by an automated service without any apparent human oversight or input from the patient, I think there's a problem. I honestly don't even know where to begin. That is just the tip of the iceberg as far as reasonable complaints go where Healthy Steps is concerned. You're better off entrusting your health to some other doctor and practice. read more

I have been with Dr. Baksh for about 3 years. So far I have not actually been seen by her, but instead by the PAs. While they seem fairly good, and my health is pretty good, it took some getting used to the PAs providing my care, as my former doctor saw his patients at all appointments. I think I would prefer seeing Dr. B, as I'm now mid-60s and needing more than just antibiotics or whatever once in a while. However, I guess that's just not how she, and other doctors, work these days. Her current female PA seems to be pretty good. The office is busy and somewhat crowded, but if I book ahead I can get an appointment when I need it. I have only needed to be worked into the schedule at the last minute once, but they did work me in with some waiting. (Wait time is pretty good for all appointments so far, although my husband, who sees Dr. B and not the PAs, has waited quite a bit for several appointments.) They are also taking blood from him, a lot of it, quite often, and have sent him to several specialists who have found nothing wrong with him. While I suppose this is good, I'm a little glad I haven't had to go through so much. I sometimes slightly resent having to have bloodwork drawn every 6 months before they will renew your prescription (with previous doctor, it was once a year) however I suppose that's a good thing to do. I like the fact that they give you a written paper after you're done that shows what was done and any suggestions/instructions you need for future care. I also like being able to access bloodwork, appointment summaries, etc. on line. They seem to be pretty automated and transparent, which is good. They're accessible by bus, and have plenty of parking. Overall, I have been fine with the care I've received, so have decided to continue with Dr. B next year. read more
