Not realizing how serious it was, I called Oakwood to schedule the consultation and after a few questions they were able to move my appointment up and squeeze me in almost immediately. From the moment I called them, I sensed that they genuinely care about their patients. They provided a clear, honest, easy-to-read estimate for the services. Come day of, I was nervous because root canals have such a negative connotation. The receptionist, the assistant (I believe her name was Lily) and Dr. B exceeded all expectations and made the scary experience extremely comfortable and pain free. The office is very nice and clean and I enjoy that the patient chairs look out a window. Dr. B was very kind, professional, efficient and explained everything thoroughly. I'll even add a bonus...in the aftercare paperwork, they provided his personal cell in case I have any questions or concerns after hours. Let me tell you...I had a procedure once that occurred on a Friday evening before closing and the office is closed on weekends. I got home only to find that the blood wasn't clotting from the procedure so I was bleeding excessively from my mouth for HOURS (almost 9 hours to be exact). I was about to go to the ER when it finally stopped, but in those hours I just wished I had a line of communication to the office staff or dentist to advise me on what to do. The fact that Dr. B provided his number goes to show the level of care you can expect at Oakwood.

I'll even admit I walked in with a bit of an attitude -- I was frustrated, in pain, and had already spent a lot of money trying to fix the issue. From the moment I arrived, the Oakwood staff immediately put me at ease. Everyone was professional, kind, and incredibly accommodating. They were knowledgeable and took the time to really listen to my concerns. Dr. Lin performed a full exam and asked detailed questions about how the previous dentist had completed the procedure. We both came to the conclusion that the previous dentist likely didn't use a safety cover (rubber dam), which allowed an infection to develop under the tooth. What impressed me the most was how thorough Dr. Lin was. The practice has a 3D X-ray machine that my insurance didn't cover, but instead of retreating the tooth blindly, Dr. Lin offered to waive the fee so he could get a clear and accurate picture of the infection area before moving forward. On the day of the procedure, everything was on time and the treatment was done comfortably with no pain. As I walked out of the building, I told my husband I could already feel the pain starting to decrease. By the very next day I was partially eating on that side, and within four days the pain I had been dealing with for almost a year was completely gone. I had been a patient for over 10 years, and spent more than that in thousands at this practice with many experiences. The staff that is present at any point is inconsistent. Doctor has sent home a temp who was hired and who couldn't not get a decent x ray after 20 attempts at radiating my face. She noted she was a temp when I said "hey, what's with the repeated radiation, why is this going on and on??" I spend over 1000 dollars on a zirconia bridge to watch the hygienist drop it on the floor and have it fracture in my face 5 months later. I had it redone with lesser grade material for the same "replacement cost". I have bruxism - stress over time is a thing. Hiring staff, albeit temporarily, who have identifiable dependency struggles is a liability. In the same vein, a dentist was hired for a short term, fractured an adjoining tooth as she pried the temporary off the next. The last teeth cleaning i had was so excruciating (the flossing cut deeply into my gums) I decided to eat the other half of the yearly double cleaning charge and not go back at all. Office staff came back to have me sign compulsory paperwork for the ongoing - very expensive - restoration while I was in the chair, numb, mouth open and vulnerable. 500 to 700 hundred. I am a person with chronic illness and a lot of pain and trauma, which is why I seek skilled practitioners. I am also very transparent with my needs and coping strategies. I communicate my conditions and how that impacts dental care. I had the experience of having my medical history/care be discussed with office staff which were not included in my treatment team - which was very exposing and not based on role based policies and privacy safeguards. I am very familiar with the medical use of nitrous oxide as I have utilized it for extensive facial and dental restoration. l requested this service (as I had received before) and the gas was not flowing. I was told to (wait 5 min or so) which is not how gas works. Like helium, nitrous takes immediate effect and impacts vocal tone, which makes it very easy to identify if it has been inhaled. The machinery was clearly malfunctioning, or the tanks were empty. My personal safety limits required that I ask the staff to reschedule. Stafff refused the idea that the equipment could be malfunctioning. The team noted the next patient was to have nitrous and they would call me to reschedule if the equipment "worked for her". Dr Wang noted on the way out with me that she hoped there was nothing wrong with the equipment as there is a very expensive specialized maintenance and repair - leading me to wonder about the system maintenance overall. I waited a week or so to call back and was told the equipment worked fine for the other patient. As the years have passed, this practice has lost its attentiveness and patient centered approach. Provision is rushed, spotty and uninformed. I do not recommend this practice any longer, most certainly not for trauma related care or affecting chronic health conditions. I found the staff far too inconsistent and far too unprofessional to continue care here.

The procedure was done under IV sedation, and it ended up being an extremely easy appointment with a much smoother recovery than I expected. What truly stood out was the doctor's calm and compassionate approach, which made it easy to trust him. I had already arranged transportation/care during recovery so I was completely distraught. I immediately called Dr. Brigg's office and spoke with Kaylee who was beyond helpful and patient with me as I was already stressed out and livid due to the original cancellation. I was expecting to maybe get in by the end of the week or maybe even the following week, but no! They got me in the next day, which was the day my original oral surgery was suppose to take place. She was able to give me my estimate right on the spot and basically took care of everything needed to get everything scheduled. Experience overall 20/10! Staff was welcoming and the sweetest angels. Dr. Briggs was great and straight to the point which is what I like. I cannot say enough great things about Dr. Briggs and her team. They truly turned a nightmare around for me. The front desk staff is great. Very friendly and helpful. I don't believe there has ever been a mistake on our bill after several years and multiple insurance changes. The hygienists seem to do a good job although I am probably not a great judge considering I never need more than a cleaning. My previous dentist retired, and I now am seen by Dr. Kirk. He seems very nice; however, again, I am not much of a judge considering he spends all of about 1 minute with me concluding there are no issues to address. I do have one big complaint. They seem to have a very hard time hanging onto their hygienists. It never fails that they have to call me a week or so before each appointment to reschedule because that specific hygienist is no longer working for them. We are a fairly active family of four, and thoughtfully scheduling around dental appointments that inevitably have to be rescheduled drives me a little nutty. All in all it isn't enough of a headache for me to change dental offices, but it does bother me. If hygienist turnover wasn't an issue, this would likely be a 5 star review.

Setup appointment with their surgery center for Thursday, 10/16, 1pm, for the tooth extraction. Followed instructions to input all my data on their Website. Today Weds, 10/15 Surgery This was supposed to be for Thursday, 10/16 1PM at their surgery center. Today, Wednesday, 10/15, 1pm, Surgery Center calls telling me they have no one available that day, thus needs to be rescheduled for the following week. Supposedly a Scheduling MixUp they called it. This was supposed to be an emergency extraction. So much for their service. Would not recommend them for any emergencies.
