Ladies & Gentleman this is a Pet Food Place, come here to buy food, she has cats available for adoption yes but shes NOT A RESCUE for the public so please don't call or come here trying to pursue her or manipulate her, she is at her capacity all alone. read more

Horrible attitude from this lady. My son simply walked in asking for a rescue for my neighbors cat (neighbor died) and this lady answered rudely that she already has 50 cats and he just has 1. Mind you, not his cat, he was trying to find some help since the owner died and neighbors dogs are trying to attack it. She could've gave him information on where or how to proceed or simply not give attitude. read more

Love this idea place and their devotion to helping cats. The donation tables and bake sales are great. Great products too.

Healthy paws is the only pet store I buy pet food from. The shop has everything you need to keep your pet healthy. In addition, I prefer to support small businesses, such as this one. I love the owner, Dawn. She has a small cat adoption center at the back of her store. She rescues cats and puts them up for adoption. She's an amazing person. Owners like that need more support from residents in the area. I have been going to her for over a decade. And I will continue to go there for pet food. I could not recommend this place enough to everyone. People donate items to her, so she can sell them. All the proceeds go to the rescued cats. Sometimes she has bake sales as well. Just come and support her business. read more

I came here to look for a cat to possibly adopt, and I have never been more disgusted with the conditions of the animals. The cats had eye gunk, worms crawling out of them, and their habitat was covered in urine and poop. I felt bad and still went in to pet the cats, one climbed on me and I held it and it had diarrhea (maybe? It was yellow, looked like stomach bile...) I went home and immediately took all my clothing off and showered to prevent any infection spreading to my cats. Now, it's 2 weeks later and I have ringworm??? Worst "rescue" I've ever seen. read more

I just adopted a toyger 3 weeks ago and noticed he needed a manicure. I never had a pet before but his previous owner assured me that he's pretty good about getting his nails trimmed, but I didn't want to chance it. I did some research online and Petco and Petsmart will only do a nail trim if you purchase a grooming service and the starting rate was $60.00. My budget is limited so I decided to check on Yelp to see if there were any local "mom & pop" locations that have competitive rates. I'm all for supporting local businesses, so I found Healthy Paws. I inquired about the nail trimming via phone with Dawn and she assured me that it would take her a minute. I was skeptical, but after doing some research, the information provided on her website mentioned that she has over 20 years of experience and reviews are great on Yelp. She takes walk-ins which was a plus because a lot of other places need an appointment and immediate availability was scarce. Also so only charges $10.00 so I was sold immediately. Fast forward today, I found her shop in a strip mall. Ample parking and it didn't seem busy at all. Dawn greeted us when we walked in and she knew who I was right away. She took my baby to the back and was back out in less than a minute. I was impressed, she was serious. He didn't cry and I didn't hear him fuss. I think she's a "cat whisperer"! Dawn was fast, friendly and efficient. She offered a tip on how to get my cat into his carrier without spending 30 mins trying to get him in. She also stated he needs a trim every 6-8 weeks.. so I'll definitely be back! If you're looking for fast, affordable and friendly service, stop by Healthy Paws and see Dawn! read more

Very lucky to have this shop local to me! They have high premium brands of cat food that you can't find in the usual big name chain stores. It's perfect for buying single cans to see what your cat will like. This shop's prices are also very competitive and not marked up at all. The owner is very responsive via email and will special order product if you ask as well. They stock a very nice variety of raw foods that are usually hard to find elsewhere. Please support small businesses, especially great ones like these! *There is tons of great dog food, too! Including raw foods! read more

If i could put 6 stars i would. This shop is an old fashioned neighborhood pet food place where you can still shop without having to deal with some huge corporate monstrosity. This store and the owner have saved countless animal lives. I see people putting bad ratings here and some of the reasons i understand them being upset, but with all due respect - a lot of these negative reviews seem to be about acts of nature. Any pet rescue/adoption service is going to have similar things happen. I have been feeding my cats for years from this store and i am happy to support it :) read more

I love this place. Tons of stuff and tons of food variety from a lot of brands that are hard to find. My favorite part about this place is that there are cats for adoption that often roam around the store. It's so cool! My other favorite part is when I shop here in supporting a small business and my fellow neighbors. I recommend this store to any pet owner :) read more

This is the place where I shop for Answers and Smallbatch pet food. This shop is fully stocked with a wide variety of pet supplies, treats and raw pet food. Dawn always has my two favorite brands in stock. She's amazing. She also runs a cat adoption in her shop. read more

ZERO STAR!!! THE LADY IS RUDE. Does not tell you there is a charge to use credit card. I've been in here three times now and every time has been beyond disappointing. The best store to find all the great food products for your animals. Love the adoption area for the cats open able to visit the available cats. You are able to read all the labels for food without being afraid of not knowing what's in your animals food. I call it a Sprouts or Trader Joe's for your pets. Lol. Great place to shop. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I took my dog to get groomed, everything was fine until I went for a second time. My dog kept crying because he did not want to go in. He kept barking and crying to the point that he started defecating. I don't want to imagine the trauma that happened in that place. Stay away. read more

Reason for my rating: we adopted a sick cat which Dawn claimed was "perfectly healthy" Be wary of adopting from here. Conditions are horrendous and customer service is abysmal. Cats are crammed into a cage the size of a small walk in closet; usually have 6+ cats to 2 feeding jugs filled with dry food and 1 water jug, and only 2 or 3 large litter boxes. Smells like someone desperately sprayed febreeze everywhere to cover up the overwhelming stench of cat piss. Our story: We adopted 2 cats from here; our first cat is healthy, eating well, and is very active. My husband and I had hoped the same for our second cat; he was affectionate, playful, and overall an awesome cat when we first brought him home. We've had our 2nd cat for about a week now, and we're still trying to figure out what is wrong. The day after he came home, his actions flipped 180. Super lethargic, sleeping basically 24hrs, barely eating or drinking water, barely using the litter box, drooling, sneezing, watery eyes. Obviously concerned, we called Dawn and let her know what was going on; first thing she says "he must've gotten into something" Impossible. My husband and I cat-proofed our whole house to avoid anything happening. Also, keep in mind, we had our first cat for 4 months before we got our 2nd cat. Anyway, She had us bring him back in, and she kept him over night. The next day she called stating he's "perfect" and that there was nothing wrong with him. It's been a week, and he's still sleeping 20+hrs, his left eye has discharge, he's been sneezing non stop and drools off and on. Thankfully, his appetite is a little better We've already brought him to the vet and turns out he was dehydrated and underweight (but we already knew that just by petting and looking at him; you can feel his spine and his cheek bones are very prominent) The vet gave him an injection for nausea (for the drooling and loss of appetite), sub-q hydration, and also recommended antibiotics for a possible URI, but we're bringing him back for a blood panel and urinalysis. We were blessed with our first cat; perfectly healthy. But our second boy is in so much discomfort and pain; it breaks our hearts. read more

I come here once a month to get my supply of canned food for my cat Mochi. They only sell the best (EVO, Merrick, Wellness, Etc) and the owners, Dawn and Jeff, are pretty knowledgeable and helpful. They even recommended a good vet which does not cost an arm and a leg. Last year, I took Mochi here for boarding for a few nights and when I picked him up, he looked happy and well fed. I trust them in watching after him when I go out of town! I agree with the other reviews that it is located in an odd strip mall but that can be overlooked once you've been there for a couple of times. 2 thumbs up for Healthy Paws =) read more

First time bringing our 7month old lab, it was pretty much a walk in appointment. They have tons of high quality dog/cat food, treats and accessories. Looks like a small place from the outside but there are tons of products inside and organized well. There is also a huge cat area for cats up for adoption, lots of scratching posts and a large area for them to roam around. Our pup did well, they take notes on behavior. He smelled and looked great! However the de-shedder I paid an extra $10 for didn't work? He's been shedding even more since his visit. The last time I took him to another place the de-shedder worked so well. Also I asked if they sold candles and was given a weird look, ya candles for puppy odor. I love the one I bought at the other place. Not sure if I'll be bringing him back but it is a convenient spot for kitty and puppy needs. read more

I love this store. I have been many times and honestly have to resist going here sometimes since I cannot bring home 17 foster cats every-time I get cat and dog food haha the owners are extremely knowledgeable on the products they sell and with animal care. I would recommend coming here if your looking for a kitten or cat to give a home to or need your high end pet good it's all here. Thank you for the great service and products! read more

She cuts me off before I explained my situation. Kind of rude. She send me to look somewhere else

We took our cat to get shaved since she shed's alot. I've taken her to Dawn twice, the first time she did a great job, but this second time and now my last. The shave was awful, I paid $60 to much to have my cat look terrible, I know it's just an animal, but come on, how would you like a terrible haircut/shave. I felt like she just doesn't care anymore, like it's just a business now and our furbabies are just a number. So disappointed!!!! read more

I've been to this store a couple of times. I haven't been in for awhile. The lady who is in the store is not a very personable employee (Dawn). We've been in a pandemic for almost year. WEAR A MASK as an owner to protect yourself and your clients!!!!!!!!!! So irritating! read more

Walked in looking for a certain product (they didn't carry it) and walked right on out. First impression. . this place kind of stinks. I get that they do cat adoptions but the cat smell was a bit overwhelming. Even more overwhelming was the fruity floral scent they were trying to use to mask it. The place was dark, the products were dusty and arranged haphazardly on the shelves. The product selection in the grooming aisle was meh. I didn't check out the rest of the store, had to get away from the cat smell! read more

Healthy Paws - Pet Groomers Near Me - Whittier, California

I am not usually on yelp to give reviews. I am usually here finding somewhere to eat, or where to get the best service, but found this gem of a pet store a few months back. It all began when I welcomed my awesome Jack Russell Terrier "Bandit" into my home. I got him and decided I would take the best care of him possible regarding health, diet, and exercise. After coming here and working through some foods I found that my companion loved Orijen and Wellness products. Now he is healthy as can be and I am regular here. Feels much better knowing my dog is eating healthy natural food and that I am helping this awesome little shop out. read more

If you live in the area and need holistic or better quality dog/cat food, you can find it here. This place carries better quality food than petsmart. Its probably best to call if you are looking for a specific item. They do special orders too. The shop is a bit smelly from the cats in the store, so if you are allergic to cats, you've been warned. I believe they offer grooming at this store too, but I haven't used that service. Some brands I remember seeing there: Taste of the Wild, NutriSource, Pure Vita, Merricks, Wellness, Fruitables, Newman's Own, Innova, Evangers, Merrick, Solid Gold, , Canidae, Natural Balance, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Natural Planet Organics, Orijen, Oma's Pride. read more

So knowledgeable about what type of food for dogs of a certain age! They recommended Wellness to us for our twelve-year-old pup and it honestly shaved ten [human] years off her. She still runs around and jumps up on her hind legs like a two-year-old! Dawn was especially helpful in picking out an appropriate, corn and grain-free puppy food for our three-month-old Pit Bull mix. Her husband recommended Innova, a very healthy food... "two vets on their board!" All together, we are giving them our business over the chains in the area, who recommend Iams and Science Diet for dogs. Beware of those companies: They are not worth putting your money into or putting your growing dog's health into the hands of! The husband & wife team is trustworthy and definitely knowledgeable about what is healthy for your dog. I trust them with mine. Note that they are located in an inconspicuous corner of a large plaza... I drove past it a couple of times without seeing it. But it's worth frequenting despite that first inconvenience of locating it. read more

Do not, under any circumstances, leave your cat here if you need to drop it off at a shelter. If you are moving, if you can't take care of it, please don't leave it here. I adopted a cat from this "shelter" and he has been in and out of the vet's office ever since. Today we took him to the vet for a teeth cleaning and 5 of his 6 incisors fell out while they were just scraping for plaque. My cat was so sickly and underweight when I got him that my vet was afraid he had FIV. He had a full body fever, an infection in his mouth, and ear infection on top of ear mites. His entire head smelled like raw meat until we could get him treated. The woman working there admitted that several of the cats were also "being treated" for ear mites as well. These cats were all being held together in an aviary styled cage and there was no place to separate a sick cat away from the others. The cats inside the cage were actively aggressive towards each other. The cat I adopted had sores on his back feet from the inclosure. She also seems to have vague and inconsistent rules when it comes to which cats are adopted out. We were looking at one cat who happened to have an infection in his eye but she said that she wouldn't be willing to let him go home with us until the infection was cleared. He also happened to be ber "favorite". When we decided on the cat we got, she gave him medication for ear mites, roughly cut his claws, and sent him home with us. And as an added bonus she did not wear a mask the entire time, nor did she care if other guests wore masks. I know that we did not have to adopt from this place or give them any business but we were desperate for a pet after the passing of a pervious pet. I love the cat we got but I wouldn't come back to this place if my life depended on it. read more

They were impolite and my cat came back smelling worse than he went. It was a waste of money. I do not recommend. As other posters have noted, the place reeks of urine. read more

Since moving to Whittier 6 months ago, I've been on a mission to find a decent pet supply store. Every pet supply in the area seemed to be either a puppy mill store or a large corporate company that doesn't carry all the brands I seek. After months of looking on and off for something worthwhile and basically giving up, I ended up finding Healthy Paws on my mobile google maps app recently. They actually have two locations: one in Whittier and one in Fullerton. I've shopped there twice now. I must say, this is a great store. They carry all the brands that I was having a hard time locating otherwise. They carry better quality and all natural products. Their staff is very friendly! A nice bonus to the store is that they have this enormous pen in their store which is "home" to a fairly large number of adoptable cats. There seems to be three or four cats wandering around the shop at any given time around that. As a side note, I have to say that I've never seen so many cats that were so mellow before. I own a st. bernard which I have brought with me there. All of these cats were very curious and coming up to say hi; not one of them hissed at her. I wish I could have taken them all home with me! There was only one downside to their shop: their prices seemed a bit steep. It is hard to say for sure since food prices have been going up and this is based on recollection of purchases made a month previous though. However, the price differences were not extraordinary. I'd say a few dollars difference for a large bag of my dog's brand of food. read more

What makes Healthy Paws special is their large selection of only the HIGHEST QUALITY products for dogs, cats and other animals. We get all of our dog food here because they only carry the highest quality, most nutritious food. We always get the PureVita dry dog food, which comes in several flavors like salmon, beef, chicken and pork. A really cool product that they carry is Omma's Pride dog food. Omma's Pride is 100% pure animal. There are no secondary ingredients. It's kept in the freezers at the front of the store. They have rabbit, chicken, liver and many more varieties. Our dog absolutely LOVES Omma's pride. We give it to her as a treat because it costs as much as human food. Sure, big retailers like PETCO, PetSmart, WalMart and Target all sell pet food. However, some of the food they sell comes with an additional price. The health of your pet. For example, 600 dogs recently died from eating tainted "jerky" from China. http://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/jerky-treat-mystery-nearly-600-pets-dead-still-no-source-f8C11436330 The food here does cost more than at other pet stores and for good reason. You're paying for QUALITY. If you want to have a healthy pet that lives a long, happy life, you have to give it healthy, nutritious food. Healthy Paws also has cat and dog grooming services. They do hair cuts, nails, clean ears, express the glands and bathe. Also, Healthy Paws only uses all natural soaps and conditioners. They also do specialized nail trimming that pushes the dogs nails back further into the quick -- most other groomers don't do this. The cost for dog grooming is competitive with other groomers in the area even though they're using high quality shampoos that are safe for your dog and the environment. Another cool thing is that our dog was in a good mood after getting her last grooming here. After getting groomed at other places our dog usually seems a bit traumatized, like she was abused while we were gone. Not here though. She was her normal high energy self after leaving. Also, in the back of the store they have a large area where they keep rescued cats that are available for adoption. The owners of the store also seem to have an extensive knowledge of all of their products as well. Whenever we have questions, they're quick to provide in depth answers. Top notch products and top notch service from a helpful husband and wife team. I highly recommend Healthy Paws! read more

I highly recommend this place to anyone who cares what they feed their pets! Forget about those big name pet stores and shop local and keep the money in the community. This store is personable and knows their stuff. They carry so much more than the big name stores have and much better variety and quality. I go their because I can buy quality raw food and quality kibble! Plus I can get my dogs groomed at the same time. At first glance the owners seem to be quite until you get to know them. They are very knowledgeable and won't steer you wrong when trying to decide on foods for your pets. Plus you know they love pets because they rescue cats. read more

Dawn is most caring, committed and knowledgeable. Her compassion goes beyond the call of duty. She helped me through a very serious time in my life. I didn't know Dawn but was referred to her through the rescue community. She immediately extended herself to foster my 4 kitties. I had no idea how long this foster would be. As weeks, months passed, each time I'd check in with Dawn, she was always so gracious and reassuring that all is well. It was seven months before I was able to take my kitty family home. Truly amazing. I love the shop and that it has a welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. Not a big ol' warehouse you get lost in. Just take a look at all the kitties that have been rescued and ready for adoption... they all look happy and cozy in the large, clean space they reside altogether in - calmly, too! The shop offers the best of everything; high quality foods and treats that Dawn explains to the T and at very fair prices. There should be more pet shops like "Healthy Paws.
