Would just like to share my terrible experience with nails by Anna at Head East salon. I've had a gift card for over 6 months and I guess the person who got the gift card for me was one number off zelling her son the money...she still gave him the gift card and never attempted to call him back to resolve anything....then I come in to use it and she is literally yelling at me and asked to call the purchaser of the card on my phone...then wouldn't give me my phone back right away...yelling at me the whole time and I didn't raise my voice once...of course you could see that I was embarrassed and upset...just trying to pamper myself a little with a gift card..and she Yelled at me!...she yelled at me....I am so sad/upset... terrible customer service read more

I absolutely love this little gem I found in the heart of Alpine! I've been coming here and getting my hair cut and colored by Richelle for about 2 years now. Honestly, my husband and 3 daughters also have Richelle do their hair too! From the first time I came here until now, everyone is always so friendly and inviting. I feel so comfortable when I'm there. Joani has done a remarkable job decorating the place inside and out and I love all of the accessories they offer. I not only get my hair done but I get to do a little shopping too! This is a full-service salon. They not only do hair, they also have an esthetician onsite who does all sorts of facial treatments as well as a person who does spray tans! They offer permanent makeup and nails too! I had a facial with Weslee and she was very knowledgeable and listened to my desires and concerns about my skin. She uses great products and did a fantastic job! The salon is kept very clean and they have a private parking lot with plenty of spaces to park. The stylist and specialist are all independent contractors so their hours vary. I called in for a last minute appointment and was told I could be fit in the following day. I arrived for my appointment but the lady who was supposed to cut my hair was running behind so they offered for another stylist to help me. I obliged since I had never been to the salon before. Annette was very friendly and took her time to talk with me and understand how I wanted my hair cut. She really took her time in my haircut and it looks really good. I have fine & thin hair and it's easy to mess up especially layers. Annette did a great job! I will go back to her. The salon also is super cute and smelled great like holiday candles. The resident dogs and cats are also all adorable! read more

Recommended for color. A big hard pass/Hell no for ANY kind of Reno extensions. I brought in premium Donna Bella tape ins, wefts (3!) For sew in yet for some reason they were taped in, and FOUR other expensive extensions with beads. The pain and not being able to sleep as I could NOT lay on head left me no other option but to pull them out and order a different kind, giving Richelle benefit of doubt and thinking it was ME. Ugh. $1270 in hair and $1,150 to Richelle over 6 months of agony is OUTRAGEOUS. The owner will not rectify, either. Joanie believes this is a friendship fallout, NOT neglience/extremely poor workmanship. ALL I asked for was to do the right thing, refund less than half I paid for services (Only asked for freaking $500 refund!). Here's what I say: DON'T TAKE IT PERSONAL, ITS ONLY BUSINESS. Previous friends or not, NO ONE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY GRAND TOTAL OF $2175 FOR UNCOMPLICATED. EXTENSIONS. I am beyond pissed Richelle and/or owner Joenie will NOT make this fair/right. I went to this salon for the first time today, a last minute appointment also. Annette helped me over the phone and staid late to give me a hair cut super last minute. I couldn't be more appreciative! So awesome. My hair was in a desperate need of a cut to get ride of my dead ends from a old bleach job. Annette got my hair to look bouncy and healthy again! Trying to find someone not to far from home and good priced has been difficult for me the past few years but I was referred to Richelle Olsen at head east salon to get my hair colored and cut. At first I was honestly nervous as hell cause I've had people do my hair and completely not understand what I want but Richelle helped me get what I wanted, finally. She is the sweetest and easiest person to conversation with too. She also did my daughters hair and grandma's hair and they love their hair as well. the only service i have done here is Nails, and it was a great atmosphere however I am not satisfied with results. this review isnt meant to be rude but i believe the gel and time it takes to do it here is not worth it. my gel came out with uneven coat and the french tip was bad and came off that night. i suggested a style, and the tech did her own twist. i gave her a shot at her ability and it wasnt worth $70 plus tip. maybe the tech has too busy of a schedule and should maybe focus on quality not quantity read more

My wife met Joni the owner, and she was such a nice lady, so rather than all those years with different people at Super Cuts or other places, I made an appointment and met Richelle. Wow, it is sooooooo much nicer now to know my stylist, go to this super-cool spot and I just highly recommend the place. Richelle is really good and my son (21) now loves coming here as well. There were 4-5 other stylists while I was there & each was turning out some great looking do's. Absolutely love my hair! I love this place! I live out in La Jolla, and I'd drive all the way to Alpine (a good 40 minutes away without traffic) just to get my hair done by Jessica. I had extensions put in back in August '10. For those of you who aren't really sure what the process is like, let just say it takes a really long time!! The ones she has are the little silicon ones that attach to your hair. I did a lot of research before I had them done, and I found that the weave-in ones can lead to dreadlocks later on and the glue-on ones.. well... it's glued to your scalp.. how can that possibly be good for your head?! So I decided to go with the ones Jessica had. It took a while to dye and highlight my hair since it's pretty thick, and going from a darker color to a lighter color also takes some time for the color to "lift." But she did an amazing job at it! I've had numerous compliments on how well the color matched my skin tone. It took about two hours to get all the extension pieces in (I had probably over 100 pieces all over my head). The entire process took about 4-5 hours. I could only go after work, so Jessica stayed with me until 11pm! I was in a rush to get them in because I was going to Vegas the next day. She was such a sweetheart about everything. I've gone in a few times to maintain my hair (she offers 50% off all maintenance!), and she's always so accommodating. If you're thinking about getting extensions, I highly recommend Jessica! I've spoke to a couple of the other girls there as well, and everyone seems really friendly. read more

My 82 yr old grandmother just told me that she's paying $35 for a pedicure, and $20 for a manicure at this salon in ALPINE! That's OUTRAGEOUS! The absolute gall of this woman to charge a senior citizen that much for a basic services is revolting. I've made other arrangements for her at a respectable venue, where she will not be raked over the coals, and I guarantee the mani/pedi will be above and beyond whatever "she who thinks she is a magician", can do.. I'm new to town and came to Head East based on its stellar reviews. The salon is well priced and the stylists know what they are doing. I've had my hair done by Summer a few times now. I had a grown out pixie cut the first time I came in, and Summer was able to turn it into a chic and feminine cut that looked professional and stylish. My hair is generally tough to style, and I have a cowlick that's difficult to work around. Summer was open to hearing what I wanted done with my hair, but also expert in rendering advice. The end result was gorgeous. This is the first salon in California I've been to that knew how to make a pixie cut look feminine and classy. Summer also had great at-home styling tips for me, but didn't push me to buy products from them (something I find off-putting at other salons). I also begged to be fit in for a last-minute bang trim the day before a job interview - Summer was kind enough to fit me in at the very end of her shift, and was super sweet about it. They also sell a bunch of neat handmade jewelry and accessories. When I come in on payday I have to hold myself back from buying up the whole store. read more

I really appreciate this place. It's so relaxing and the staff are nice--maybe except for one staff who is was rude over the phone, but I never caught her name. I asked for Joani, and she said she wasn't available. She asked if she could take a message. I said I'll just call back later, which is when she decided to be rude, asked again why she can't take the message. Again, I said I will call back. She then proceeded to just put the phone down, and a few seconds later, I was able to speak with Joani. My actual appointment went well. I also appreciate how honest she was with how well or how not so well a color would look on me and how well my hair would most likely hold the color.
