Great place to hang out but it's always unclear of cover charge, food, happy hour and their hours of operation.

The DJ had us dancing all night and the staff was so polite. The drinks were good & strong. Unfortunately it was only 2 bartenders and a packed bar/restaurant. Parking was free on the night I visited, but I'm fairly sure that there's normally a charge. There is a coat check, which is nice. I was alone so I sat at the bar which seats about 20 in really close quarters. There are also several tables. I ordered an Old Fashioned, and salmon croquettes with potatoes and onions. The dish was served with a sort of remoulade. The croquettes were thin and slightly overcooked with crispy edges, but had good seasoning. I enjoyed the potatoes with onion. The happy hour menu is very affordable with various food items and drinks. The regular menu items are also inexpensive. A dj was spinning, which was a great. The music was appropriate for the crowd. I bopped for sure. The staff was courteous, but I did wait quite a while for my meal and my bill. One of the owners checked on me often which made me feel welcome and my patronage appropriated. I would recommend giving it a try. I will definitely return.

We were the first customers of the afternoon and grabbed seats at the bar. The space has a retro vibe, almost like an bowling alley bar. The happy hour deals were hard to pass up: $3 off appetizers and cocktails, plus $6 beers. We ordered the meatballs, which were pretty good, and washed them down with multiple $6 tall cans of Modelo. What started as an accidental stop turned into a good place to grab a drink and a snack. If you're in the area, the happy hour specials make it worth checking out.

Limited seating, first come first serve. It feels more like a side thought for sure. We felt like an afterthought. Our table was not cleaned, our servers were not attentive did not bring us water, nor cleaned off the table. It felt so informal and overly casual. Like I'm going to my friends bar that they owned and I get whatever service because it's my friend. But this was my first time and I was not impressed with the service at all. The food and drinks were good. Also, they did not adjust our bill for the happy hour special. That was the whole point of us going there because of the happy hour menu. I'm not sure if I would return.

Sometimes, you're not looking for dinner. You're just in…read moreDetroit, you pull up somewhere on a whim, and somebody says, "Oh yeah... we're doing BBQ on Sundays." And apparently, only Sundays. For a limited time. Well... you don't hear that and walk away. Welcome to Northern Lights in Detroit. We grabbed ourselves a proper jerk chicken set, and let's get right to the food. First up -- the mac and cheese. Solid. That cheese pull? Spectacular. The flavor is dialed in perfectly. The cheddar comes through, it pulls everything together, and it absolutely slaps. 10 out of 10. Then we've got the greens. And these are the kind of greens I want. You can still taste the leafy green flavor, but they're seasoned like somebody actually knows what they're doing. Well-rounded. Savory. Properly cooked. 9 out of 10. Now the star of the show -- the jerk chicken. Nice and meaty. Good smoke coming through. And that jerk seasoning? On point. You can taste those real spices coming together, and it tastes like that chicken actually had time to marinate and soak all of that goodness in. And the heat? Perfect for me. Honestly, this is one of the better jerk chickens I've had. 10 out of 10. And then the bartender hits us with a piece of cornbread. Fresh. Hot. Moist. And then they hit it with that honey drizzle... Yeah. Fresh cornbread hits different. 10 out of 10. So yeah, we're pretty damn glad we randomly pulled up. A couple good drinks, some seriously good food, and one hell of a Sunday BBQ. Sometimes the best meals are the ones you never planned on having. Northern Lights, Detroit. Definitely give this spot a proper go.

The bbq was amazing and was so good. The place is an old time classic to go to. Never disappointed and will always come back.
