I saw a post on our town's community page from the restaurant asking for patron's to come in and enjoy their food and that they'd recently only had 2 customers come in. With 4.6 stars/reviews, we were excited to try it out and support a local businesses, so we gathered up our family and headed there for dinner. There were 6 in our party (3 adults, 3 kids). Unfortunately, our experience was one for the books, and not in a good way. Let's get straight to it. SERVICE: Both the person who answered the phone and the person who greeted us when we walked in were very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, they told us that it was their last day and that they were moving to Portland, so she was training a new person. The new person who took our order didn't know much about the menu items, but since we knew that she was in training, we asked for help and she got someone who could answer our questions about gluten free options and pasta sauce options. We waited a a good 15 minutes or so for ginger ale and 2 cokes. We waited easily over 50 minutes for our food. MENU: The menu is very limited, meaning there are not many options to choose from. They didn't have any juice or any "kids menu" items to choose from. Limited appetizers. FOOD: Probably the worst food I've ever had at a sit down restaurant in Monmouth/Independence. We ordered few things to eat family style since it was our first time and we wanted to try a few items. Every pasta dish was undercooked and flavorless. Every single thing we ordered tasted either old, microwaved or way too salty. Nothing looked or tasted fresh BESIDES the salad, which took longer to get than the actual food. I only gave one star for the nice person who greeted us and kept checking on us throughout the long wait. Otherwise, I'd give zero stars. It was a hefty price to pay for really BAD food. It was so bad that we went to get something else for dinner after we left there. I'm not sure if we went on an off day, or if we ordered some items that aren't usually made, but I was surprised by the quality of food, especially with such good ratings. Our first night in Monmouth and we were starving as it was almost 8 pm by the time we were ready for dinner, fortunately we found a great spot to dine at Hazel's on Main. We walked in, there were only two other parties dining there on a Wednesday evening, our party of five were seated right away and provided with water and menus. On this evening the menu was slanted towards Louisiana cuisine and we took advantage as we rarely have the opportunity to enjoy cajun cuisine. The Great: Lots of great local brews and wines. My wife enjoyed a wine flight all featuring wines made in the area. I enjoyed a couple local brews that were excellent. I ordered the Jambalaya while the wife went with a Charcuterie Plate, both dishes were solid. Finished off dinner with an order of beignets for a sweet ending. The Good: Service was solid, food did take a while as they only had one person in the kitchen preparing the food. We took the opportunity to relax after a long day of travel and enjoy our libations. The Okay: Some of the items featured on the online menu was not available but our little group all found suitable menu replacements with no complaints. Overall: Great spot, fun decor, nice staff, and convenient location to our AirBnb made this a great first night in town! read more

If the service hadn't been so friendly this would be a 1 star review. Group of 3 came in at 530 on a Friday and when we were sat we were told they wouldn't be able to accommodate us for dinner without a long wait. We had tickets for a show at the college, so appreciated her warning. We ordered drinks and an app expecting they had many 6pm reservations and just couldn't make it work in their small space. NO ONE had reservations behind us! A walk in for carry out and a 2 top walked in. There were maybe 6 people in the restaurant ahead of us....when we were getting ready to leave the cook came out to the front of the house, didn't look that busy. Instead of having a meal there we went to food carts down the street, where we also had to wait 30 min. Basically had to wolf down our food and rush to the show. Boo. read more

Such a cute little place tucked away in little Monmouth. I absolutely loved my visit. I tried 5 wines. They were all delicious and picked out by my server because I told him to surprise me. He picked a great selection with a white, rose and a couple of reds. I had the spinach and artichoke dip which was straight up to die for. Best spinach and artichoke dip I've ever had. Love to have a good spot open til 10! The space is really lovely and they have a great selection of wine, beer, and cocktails! We tried several of the tapas dishes and particularly liked the pork and the shrimp. The server was very sweet and helpful. I wish I could do 4.5 because we have no big complaints. The pear martini at crush is a is to die for! The pear notes are in the smell and the aftertaste, it has a lemony kick to it as well. The sugar rim really sealed the deal. The woman working was super nice and quick to serve us. They have a great selection of signature cocktails, wine, and some beers! Came here because this is one of few places in the valley that showcases Oregon wines. We did a flight of temperanillo (all from different wineries), then a flight of pinot noir. John and his staff are very knowledgeable and set up a great selection for us. The charcuterie plate is exceptional, and worth the time to find out whats included from the waiter. We also enjoyed the bruschetta. Right off the 99, but in tiny little Monmouth. Well worth the drive to check this place out! read more

Wonderful selection of beer, wine and cocktails---which is great if you have a mixed party. We had the charcuterie board, fondue with sausage and bison sliders. Everything was on point and completely delicious, with an unique flavor profile, which makes you think it is a once in a lifetime experience. Okay to start this review I want to say that overall this place is alright. I've been here three times. The last was enjoyable however one of my experiences was all together horrible and totally dependent on one employee. That experience definitely still weighs on me. This is a popular spot for professors from WOU to go after work. I don't come here for the food. Not to say it's terrible because it's not it's just got more of a bar vibe. My bad experience involved an employee a tall jock looking blond fellow. He was apparently off duty and drinking with friends. He was extremely drunk and approached my table. I was out with two people from work and we were having a serious discussion. This man sits down and demands to know what we're talking about. Clearly we tell him we're not going to tell him. He tells us that it's okay he works there. We try to get him to leave but he just sits there making us all uncomfortable. Making weird and intrusive conversation. He was drunk but acting very entitled. He made us (group of three women) extremely uncomfortable. So, I get it this is a small town. Everyone knows everyone. We did not know this guy. There aren't many places to go drink in town but dude control yourself don't be sloppy at your place of business. All this being said, it won't stop me from coming here but I won't be comfortable in a group of ladies again if that guy is there. I'd have to go with my husband. read more

Loved this place, and I can't wait to go back. Good food selection, although a little pricey for some things (like the appetizer nuts for $7!). The alcohol choices are very good, too, and the prices just right for beer and wine offerings. Went on a Friday night, and it wasn't even really crowded. Have to love small-town ambience like that. Pretty standard stuff here at Crush. There are a generous helping of local wines as well as local beers (nothing compared to the selection of beers down the street at Yeasty Beasty). Perhaps what drew a star or two away for me was the lack of any sort of identity. I felt that the place was nice enough, sure, but nothing to write home about. I certainly didn't feel like it had the kind of vibe of most wine bars I've been to in bigger cities like Portland or even Corvallis. Also: kicking country from the 1990s on a Friday night often doesn't get folks interested in drinking wine. To be fair, that last comment was below the belt. This is a great place to hang out. I came here with my family during christmas break and had a good time. This place is really cute and unique. It has a very home like feeling to it. Its like you are sitting in your own living room. The owner (Josh?) is super nice. I had some hard cider which got me drunk...yes i'm a light weight. It was very good.
