All three of us had the same feeling about this elote. I am a Dallas transplant whom can eat the Friendly's taco/Fanny elote combo 5 days a week so I cannot vouch for the ATX Fanny location just yet. As for the Hay Elote elote, no. No sweet corn flavor, no creaminess (runny water consistency), no freshness (their Parmesan cheese smelled foul, did not cut the corn from the cob like Fanny's), no assortment of elote self serve dressings (MX seasonings, MX hot sauces, squeeze yourself limes), just no good. Pretty much one of favorite spots in Austin for elote! The corn is so fresh and has just the right amount of topping! The nachos (even with corn which I was hesitant about) were super good! The Frescas con crema (strawberries with cream) has to be one of favorite desserts, so simple yet so sweet. The fruit cups were my favorite as I love fruit along w the mangonada drink-it's like a mango smoothie and all it needs is tequila! Amazing food, I just wanted to write a review because I barely speak any Spanish and they were completely polite to me and Russian friend and her daughter when we went. I read some of the other reviews about them "discriminating against non Spanish speakers" which is completely ridiculous because I ordered in English and they took my order and served my food and it was delicious 10/10 would recommend. Staff was oh so friendly and gave super generous portions. Boyfriend and I visited on a really hot afternoon and ordered a Mango Hill and a small elotes. Elotes were a bit watery and the corn was kind of stiff and not very sweet. I'm also not a huge fan of the chili sauce in my elotes since I usually drop in pepper flakes as an alternative. Mango Hill was refreshing, especially on a hot day. The strawberries were so fresh and the chili sauce on top was such a perfect touch. I was super impressed. We struggled to finish it, so I recommend sharing with a friend (unless you're up for the challenge). I believe they take credit card, but I would go ahead and give them cash. One of my biggest complaints about people who sell elotes (here in the states) is that they use sweet yellow corn or canned corn. The real Mexican corn uses a white, chewier corn. This is it. He will make it the way you like it. A small one (8oz) cost me $3.25. Mine had a little too much water in it so make sure to tell him to drain it well. The place is located in a tiny spot right by the tracks by Webberville and E. 7th. I don't think I can call it a shopping center, so you can easily miss it. There isn't a lot of signage and the only thing that caught my eye was the name "Hay Elotes!" (Meaning there is corn here, or We have corn). They have a few benches outside in their little patio area. Corn isn't the only thing they have here. They also have chamoyadas and mangonadas, ice cream, Aguas Frescas and other delicious snacky snacks. I don't remember seeing any seating inside so you might have to take your corn to-go like I did. Delish!!! A cute little place. There aren't enough fruit cup places in austin, but I'm glad I found this one. The Mangonada was amazing! I couldn't finish all the tamarindo on my straw though. I also had the sour hot cheetoes which was my dream dish. Hot cheetoes, pickles, chamoy, and lime! I couldn't even finish it because it was so sour. We also ordered the chicharron dish. Cabbage, pig skins in vinegar, avocado, some sort of cream sauce, and valentino hot sauce all on top of a sheet of chicharron (?). I wasn't a fan of the pig skins so I didn't eat much of this dish. I had the coconada, which was coconut ice cream with fresh strawberries, pineapple, whipped cream, pecans, and topped with condensed milk. Was brought here by my friend after work. We got the mango hill. It's a mango sorbet (kind of) compacted into a mound into a plastic cup. Then a sweet and sour ribbon candy is wrapped around the top. Strawberries are placed like spikes throughout the top. Then they top it off with a chili sauce. Instead of the sauce my friend and I got chileto powder. The mixture of sweet mango, slightly tart strawberries and tangy spice of chileto accented with bites of sour candy... I WENT CRAZY. I had placed an order online and after 30 minutes called to get an update and when they had answered they just hung up on me. I then called again and still no answer so I decided to just show up to the restaurant. When I got there they hadn't even noticed there were online orders so they started on my order. They then told me I didn't pay enough because their prices online are labeled incorrectly so I gave them the money I had "owed". A coworker and I go here every week for what we call #fruitcupfriday. We have tried so many different items from the menu, and it's been good each time. Make sure if you aren't good with Spanish, that you make a decision and stick with that decision. I have learned that if I try to change my order, the staff make both of my orders. Only other drawback is the smell of spoiled fruit when you walk into the establishment. The Mango Hill, the Limon King, Coconada, Mangonada, Chamoyada, Fresas con crema, fruit cups, and the bandera are all delicious and I've eaten all of these. read more

My hubby and I were out and about on a crisp Saturday afternoon and we decided to find a place for a light snack. I remembered seeing Instagram pics of fruit treats that family members posted so I thought that I would give Hay Elotes a try. Their small shop is on East 7th tucked between various storefronts but it was easy to find. Parking was almost non-existent and I wasn't too happy to find a dusty parking lot especially when I just had my car washed and detailed. My disappointment was reversed when I stepped inside and saw so many choices. We ordered to small elotes cups so that we could have them tweaked to our own taste. I also ordered nachos which cane with a couple of spoonfuls of real corn. This was a happy surprise and tasted great. I decided to order a large fruit cup so that we could snack on it at home. Lastly I ordered an ice cold bottle of Topo Chico that they promptly dressed and served over ice with the juice of two fresh squeezed limes. Delish. We took our order out to the picnic table in the side of the shop and enjoyed the creations. One of the workers came out with a fruit cup and we chatted with him while he took his break. He told us that this was a slow day which surprised us as there were at least 29 people in line ahead of us when we arrived. We will definitely be back.
