I purchased a certified pre owned Chevy Silverado from this "dealership". Here is our experience 1. Our certified pre owned Chevy was delivered to us with tires that had nails in them! 2. We discovered the vehicle had been in an accident that was not disclosed to us. When we went to get an inspection sticker the vehicle ID with vin and vehicle info sticker inside the drivers door was for a different truck! Took 6 month for the staff at Hawthorne to figure out how to order the and deliver to me the correct sticker. 3. It gets better, we purchased rim coverage which cost $1000 for chrome rims. I was told and saw in the contract we had $7200 total for replacement rims and tires (nails not included in warrantee as it was a "pre existing" condition so we had to pay for 4 new tires in the first 2 weeks of ownership). The rim finish failed and blistered, I contacted the warrantee company who said I could have $160 per rim to have refinished. Anyone in the automotive field will tell you that you can't refinish chrome. Warrantee company said it could be done. they made ME call all over to prove it could not be refinished. I reached out to Hawthorne who offered me no assistance as they said they didn't work with that warrantee company anymore. I have 20" chrome rims factory, $800 each. Warrantee company did not pay to replace. Then they called me 6 months later to see if I wanted to buy another car from them! I sternly requested they take me out of their system, do not call. I did this 3 separate times after each sales call I received. 4. BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE! Now I go onto the lenders website to get my pay off and Hawthorne called me withing 15 minutes saying they left a voice mail and I quote: "Hi Janet, I am calling from Hawthorne Chevrolet and am freaking out because I see your request for a pay off on your vehicle. Wanting to know if there is anything I can do" I did not respond, so they called again today left voice mail asking me same thing! THEY ARE IN MY PERSONAL BUSINESS NOW. I called Hawthorne again and asked to speak with someone who could get me off their call list. Spoke with Tom in Business Development, told him my sad sad story. I asked Tom to have all phone numbers related to me deleted from their system. He said he had many systems and couldn't guarantee I would not be called again! I have not done a reviewed until now, but this is the last straw. Hawthorne monitors my personal financial business and can't tell me you won't call again. I have been a long time customer of Hawthorne Chevy. This will be the last time I deal with them. The change in ownership has not been a positive one. I have been ripped off with 2 promises negotiated in the deal that were not kept. I had an overage in miles that I negotiated to be waived since I was returning to the original dealer, been a long time customer and was going to purchase a new lease through them. We agreed as part of the deal. I had to come back the next day because the dashboard wasn't working. The used car supervisor said something to me about making a deal with him about buying the car and reducing my overage. I told him it was negotiated to be taken care of. I am then told that was not arranged and I am being billed for it. In addition, I negotiated to have my running boards taken off my turned in truck and put on the new ones. The associate agreed and would take care of it with the service department. I bring the truck back in and get charged 220 for the installation. I again told them this was negotiated and to talk to the associate. She then tells me she never agreed to that. Please be aware of these tactics. I would not deal with them if I were you. It is a shame. I have always enjoyed dealing with them, but now there is no concern for the customer. They didn't even have the courtesy of reaching out to try and remedy a solution to all of this. read more

Misleading Extended Warranty and Lack of Response from Owner down. I purchased two Suburban's from Hawthorne: One brand new with all the bells and whistles in 2015 and a used 2017 in 2020. With the used I purchased a Platinum Extended Warrantee for $2,450 and in Bold Letters shows 72 months/ 100,000 miles. Well November 2023 the transmission goes on it 37 months after I purchased it with 83,000 miles on it and what do the claim it's not when I purchased it, it's when the original buyer purchased it!! Are you kidding me - So misleading!! I talked to three people there: Carrie/Finance, Mike/Gen'l Mgr and Steve/Owner - All said they would get back to me and none have. I have always been a Hawthorne Chevy Fan, bought my vehicles there, service them too, couldn't say enough good things about them. "BUT" they were bought and how things change from a Family owner to a Major dealership conglomerate. I was in for service recently, my service writer advised I needed a new air and cabin filter. I declined and bought them at the parts counter, yes I'm not paying them over a $100 to change 2 filters. Thats not even the issue, after taking the Air filter out, it was clear it didn't need to be changed. I don't feel that they were trying to rip me off, they were only going by the milage of my vehicle. Here is the issue, I paid with a Debit Card, I was expecting a credit being issued , nope they issue a Check?? What ??? The parts guy said you should see it in 3 to 5 business days. That was April 30th, still no check, I went back in yesterday and was told it would be processed Today (Friday May 17) or some time next week? I'm there, I'm unhappy, you don't cut me a check right there? Nope. I was told that it doesn't matter how you pay, Cash, CC , Check, anyway ,you will get a check as a refund. My parents bought a car and know they are dealing with the incompetent service department a year ago the check engine light came on, pay a fee, the light was reset, approximately a year later the same issue, all they did was reset the light, after going somewhere else and getting a proper diagnose, went back to them with the information, could not to the general manager, he would not come out of his ivory castle, long story short, they want my parents to pay about 2 thousands dollars to fix a problem on a car that should have been taken care of the previous year, but they brushed them off, the is a form of Elderly Financial Abuse... When you buy the car they love you, leave the dealership and they don't know you. the treatment and handling of my parents problem is not fair...I would not send my pet dog there to purchase roller skates.. note, the dealership has a receptionist that I spoke with when I first arrived there, she stated she was going to get the general manager for me and never came back, in fact upon walking around she was literally sitting in a empty office looking at a computer and never acknowledged me again...very sad business practice read more

Started my car, heard a clicking sound. Immediately drove 3 miles to Hawthorne Chevy. Had $4K in repairs done and car was there for 22 days. Left the parking lot and my check engine light went on. Wasn't on when I brought it in. Turned around and was told it was fine and to just put "gas cleaner" in my fuel tank and drive it a few hundred miles. Brought it back again and was told it was fine to drive. Was told this happens when they do the type of repair I had done (bad lifter in engine). Took it back two months later, light still on. Now I am told bad catalytic convertors.... Why would a dealership let you leave with the check engine light on??? So frustrating.... won't pass inspection and now because I drove it like they told me, my extended warranty has expired (was literally only a few hundred miles away from the end of it anyway) read more

I bought a used vehicle from them back in early October and the initial sale was fine, but it obviously wasn't much of a priority to them since it wasn't a big sale on a new car. I had to call two weeks after the sale for an update on my registration to find that the process hadn't even been started because they needed more information from me, it was a back and forth with them for another week. The 30 day temp plate was expired for 10 days before I finally got my registration, and it was an unnecessary headache since I had said I would do my own registration and I paid in cash which shouldn't have ever been a problem. They charged me $325 for the cost of registration which came out to $60 but they only refunded me $90 and I have yet to even receive it almost two months after I purchased the car. I do not recommend buying a car here to anyone. Especially if you are looking at their used vehicles. read more

Should be Zero stars! STEER CLEAR! This dealership carries NO BUSINESS ETHIC. I dealt with Ulises as my salesman and went there specifically to see a used vehicle that I was very serious about which I expressed. Had it looked at by my own mechanic which I paid for. Test drove it with my family came to the agreement on a price, which they tried to change one day after I already had driven the vehicle, which I had proof of an email. The truck was also supposed to have two sets of keys which became a circus act of management telling me that I should pay $500 for an additional key even though that's how it was advertised. Ulises tried to help with that situation and told me to give him some time to figure that out, which came to an end when I said forget about the key, let's just make the deal and I was told to come in for an appointment with a bank check and to sign final paperwork after the weekend. Come Monday I was called by the salesman in the afternoon to tell me that they had sold the car for more money over the weekend. This is more than disgusting. This is my 3rd car as a loyal customer with Hawthorne Chevrolet (HC) Within LESS than 24hrs of purchasing my used Chevy Trail Blazer (which was serviced by HC for the life of the vehicle) my family and I came to the realization that the transmission was inoperable. When driving the vehicle on the highway it lost power and all of the transmission fluid had leaked out B4 our eyes. I had the vehicle towed from route 208 N right back to Hawthorne Chevrolet thinking that they would fix it without any questions asked??? Not only did they say it was "Sold as is and not responsible", they charged me $750 to replace all of the lines thinking that would be the solution. After picking up the car when the transmission lines were done, within minutes on my drive home the transmission was slipping again. The vehicle was taken directly back to Hawthorne Chevrolet. Steven in service had told me that 3rd gear was slipping and recommended a re-manufactured transmission. Hawthorne Chevrolet then proceeded to tell me that it's going to cost me $3000 plus tax out of my own pocket. I just purchased a car for $6300, why should I have to put in new lines ($750) + a new transmission ($3000) with in less than 24 hours of owning the vehicle, especially when they claimed to have serviced the vehicle for the past 13 years. Being that said they obviously knew that the transmission was no good when selling the vehicle to me. So to sum things up, I bought a car and was unable to drive within 24hrs of its purchase. They refused to give me a loaner and fix it at their expense. I have been spending $50/day on Uber to get back and forth each day for work; I am also paying for insurance for a car that has been sitting in their lot for 2 weeks. Why should I have to put $4000 into a car with in less than 24hrs of owning? This is out right unfair and just bad business. Especially that this is my 3rd car from them. If you are considering purchasing a vehicle from Hawthorne Chevrolet and, by extension, using the financing company, GM Financial, that they use for there leases, I would highly recommend thinking twice about your purchase and reading this honest review before making your decision. Because of the experience that I had with these businesses, I would advise that you look elsewhere for your next vehicle. There are several dealerships in the area that I have used in the past that never would have displayed the same level of unprofessionalism and ineptitude that I experienced with Chevy and GM in the past few weeks. I feel that it is my responsibility as a customer to follow up after my recent purchase and warn others of the experience that I have had. Hopefully this review will rescue some readers from making a terrible mistake. Recently, I was leaving for work early in the morning only to discover that my car was missing from my driveway. Naturally, as any reasonable person would, I thought that my car had been stolen in the night. Having to abruptly take off from work to figure out what happened, I called the local police only to discover that my car was repossessed due to delinquent payments. This, of course, came as quite a shock as I created an account with GM Financial, just as my sales representative at Hawthorne Chevy instructed me to, and scheduled for automatic payments to be withdrawn from my account each month. I have never missed a payment on anything in my life and would never allow my car to be repossessed - especially considering the monthly payment is by far the lowest one that I have. The strange part was that I never once received any sort of indication that my payments were not being made. I continued to receive advertisements from Hawthorne Chevy and GM, but not one message about my actual account. Trying to get into contact with anyone from GM or Hawthorne Chevy was nearly impossible that day. I was disconnected at least six times while waiting on hold and when I finally did get a representative on the phone, and I explained my situation, I was treated like a delinquent. The tone that the representatives took was dehumanizing and belittling. After wiring the alleged missed payments (including $800.00 in towing and holding fees) to GM, I eventually got on the phone with the manager of the reinstatement department. She, much like the representatives at Hawthorne Chevy, suggested that GM went through a "systems change" in early 2018 that resulted in several other complaints much like the one that I was reporting. She claimed that "many people" who created GM accounts or set up payment plans during the transitional period from my area experienced issues with their payments being cancelled and the ending dates of automatic payment pays being "depopulated" on the online payment calendars within customer accounts. I later learned that my mother (who also purchased a car from the same dealership as me only a few weeks earlier) experienced the same issue. She signed up for automatic payments in early 2018 and received a late notice via phone claiming that her payment for her first month was not submitted. She immediately created another account online and re-enrolled in automatic payments. I, on the other hand, never received any sort of notification via mail, e-mail, phone, or otherwise that there was any issue with my account. Because the monthly payment was so low, I never realized that they were not being withdrawn. I explained my concerns to reinstatement manager about my credit score and how repossession could impact me in the long term. Given to totality of my situation, she told me that I had every right to be upset and should certainly file a dispute with the Credit Bureau and reach out to the Better Business Bureau. I asked her if GM could simply submit a form verifying that it was an error on their part, but she advised me that I should file complaints. She explained that due to the string of errors that were taking place, late payments and other glitches were not being reported at all, but GM had once again (conveniently) began reporting credit issues that week that I was having the issue. She told me to repeatedly check my credit score to see if GM submitted paperwork that would negatively impact my credit for the next 2 months before filing a dispute claim. It was extremely frustrating that Chevy blamed GM for their negligence with the account and GM blamed Chevy for not providing them with a completed list of contact IDs to reach me through. Neither side took ownership of this problem and left me to waste days upon days trying to sort it out. By writing this review, I don't mean to hurt any specific employee's reputations, but I feel that it is important to warn others of this experience. Chevy might be running a nice sale that looks appealing, but it's just not worth it. Do yourself the favor and look elsewhere. read more

I telephoned several dealers within a 10 mile radius, and told them I wanted them to give me their best price on the car as I spec'd it out to them. This is my 3rd transaction with Hawthorne Chevrolet. I wanted to buy a compact car and because American car manufacturers are not going to make small cars anymore we decided to buy a Sonic. Our salesman Gary Monnecker told us they sold their last Sonic but he would try to find one. He did and we got the car within a week. The only problem with the car was that it does not have electric windows. I asked about air conditioning and Gary said all cars have air. Either I forgot to ask or heard wrong but I thought if it has air condtioning, it must have electric windows. It doesn't. Gary told us the LS level only comes with Roll up windows. That was a real down! But everything else was great. I have no other complaints. I will continue to use Hawthorne for my car needs as long as Gary is still there. read more
