Hawks is my favorite high-end place to go in all of Granite Bay and Roseville! If you're looking for a fine dining experience, they will deliver. I've been here dozens of times growing up in Granite Bay and they have never failed to impress and satisfy. First, the service is top-notch. I want to give a shout-out to our server Peter, who was exceptionally accommodating. He explained the menu excellently, acknowledged our anniversary and was understanding when we had to leave a little early and had everything boxed up perfectly. The menu is pretty standard for a restaurant like this but they always change it up seasonally. There is usually a great soup! Also they always bring out an amuse bouche before the apps and that's always super tasty and cool. There's also always a fun cocktail selection and while I'm not really a wine drinker I know they have an excellent selection. The atmosphere is really nice, intimate but not too dark or loud. They're located in a shopping center that is adjacent to a nice wetland so their patio looks out on that which is pretty. Their braised short ribs are amazing and have been on the menu for years for a reason. The Caesar is great (includes boquerones!) This time I got the Filet Mignon which was cooked perfectly and my fiancé got the Duck Confit which was also amazing. We also got the Charcuterie Plate and soup. Some of the best food and service you can get in Placer/greater Sacramento area. Short ribs are so perfectly done - always my favorite. Never disappointed by gnocchi, pasta, duck confit and many other items either. Cheeseburger here is outstanding and totally worth it. Dessert dessert dessert - it changed a lot but my all time fav is the cream brûlée tart. Really impressed by the mushroom and forest themed chocolate mousse cake too. Honey cake was delicious. Beignet is a house classic although my experience had been a little inconsistent. Some days it was perfect some other days it would be slightly burned/doughy etc. only thing I didn't quite like was a chocolate lava cake and it just tasted terrible. Drinks are delicious, with the menu changing so much I always ask for recommendations. Love the people working there, they make this place special!! Decor reminded me of the dining room at the Ritz Carlton. Server introduced himself and presented the menu. Had a choice of bottled water or tap which was nice. Started with the charcuterie board which was Generous portions of assorted pate, terrines and cured meats complimented with hand crafted mustards and pickles was scrumptious. An amazing fine dining restaurant in Roseville! Our waitress was super friendly and offered suggestions on the menu items. Started off with the Tombo Tuna Aguachile - super refreshing, would definitely get it again. Given complimentary tastings of their Potato Parmesan soup - super creamy!! For the main course, ordered the Roasted Pitman Farms Chicken and Wagyu Cheesburger. Both were absolutely delicious and very filling. TLDR: food is consistently good. But not much else beyond that. We recently dined at Hawks for our anniversary. The food was delicious, neatly presented, and meticulously prepared. I like that when we come to Hawk's we can count on the food to be good and consistent. But when we dine out, it's not just about the food. It's about the overall experience. And this is where Hawks came up short. My wife and I are foodies and wine enthusiasts. And when we dine out, we look forward to pairing the wines we love with the food at restaurants. We had one of Bordeaux's finest wines planned for our dinner, so we brought a bottle that I had previously decanted at home to Hawks. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were seated and upon setting the bottle of wine down on the table, the gentleman who brought us to our table noticed that the bottle was uncorked. He then proceeded to tell us (rather sternly) that we couldn't have the wine since it was previously opened. No explanations were given as to why. Just a matter-of-fact and no desire to talk through alternatives. This set the tone for how the rest of the night went. Having dined at Hawks previously and paying for corkage for wines I've brought (albeit unopened each time), it didn't seem to me that bringing my own bottle would be a problem. Opened or unopened. And having brought uncorked wines to many other restaurants, I was not expecting that this would be an issue. Later in the service, that same gentlemen offered us complementary sparkling wine for our anniversary (something they do often for their guests). So, knowing we were there to celebrate a special occasion and seeing we brought a special bottle of wine for the occasion , they clearly knew that we were there for an experience, yet chose to ignore it or at least made no attempt to ensure we would have a good experience. A couple of lessons here. First one is for me. Although this has never been an issue at any of the finer restaurants I've been to, I'll be sure to call ahead of time to iron out these details before going to a restaurant. The other lesson is for Hawks. I hope the owners read this review and make sure to remind their teams that customers dine not just for the food, but for the overall experience. The experience is what we remember and right now, all I can do is share this negative experience with my friends and remind them that there are other places that can offer a better experience. Please remember that in the end, a restaurant is a service organization and how you execute on that service is what we all notice. An anniversary we won't forget anytime soon. read more

We really enjoy the bar at Hawks in Granite Bay. Greg is the best bartender ever, makes great cocktails including espresso martinis. He always takes good care of us and we enjoy seeing him when we go to Hawks Public House as well. The dessert chef in Granite Bay is incredible. Love this place! You're the man Greg! read more

We came for my birthday and everything was just so delicious! The staff were all kind, friendly, kept our waters full and plates cleared. It might have been a little slow, but on a special occasion night it was nice to sit and chat. We got salads, the duck, the sole, and for dessert the beignets and candy bar--all were enjoyed but especially the duck and desserts. We expected small portions as nicer restaurants often serve, but we were pleased with the portions and were absolutely stuffed to the brim by the end. I would say the entrees were perfect to be satisfied but not too full. We look forward to returning. read more

I tend to ask to do well done wagyu burgers to test if the chef will do it right. Usually wagyu burgers are better medium rare. But the chef passed the test. Amazing place, food, and service. I've been going to Hawks for years and have found the food to be creative and prepared exquisitely. Last Thursday was no exception, the gnocchi, Hamachi, Risotto, Mushroom soup (with Hen of the woods) were all delicious. After getting home and looking at my receipt I however was not thrilled at the $7.44 per person labor charges that I missed. I tip well (20% or more) for good service and feel that should suffice. Especially with upscale prices and cocktails thrown in. Not sure if I'm coming back with friends and family after this long love affair we once had. read more

We had a few things going on for my first trip to Hawks - we had an anniversary, a birthday, and family visiting. We had a large party so they sat us in the back room for a more intimate setting, the staff took such care of us as we had questions about the menu and wine pairings, getting the right wine glass for the wine, and a baby to take care of! They did such a great job and had such patience with us that it made the entire night that much more special and allowed us to focus on the celebrations at hand. You know what? This was nice. After our last couple tasting menu experiences, ordering a la carte took the edge off. Do I really wanna commit to 2-3 hours and be at the mercy of the kitchen? Nah, not tonight. Sure it's our 3 year anniversary, but my baby boy is waiting at home with his beautiful gummy smile and ain't nobody got time for the tasting menu. Alright, so we get a nice lil bottle of vino- local stuff. I try to limit some of that carbon footprint when I can. The ambiance is nothing to write home about. A small, quiet room off to the side with a ceramic deer head making direct eye contact with me. Start off with the tuna tartare and the gnocchi. The waiter gives me some props for my choice. Thanks waiter, I'm always down for reassurance from the subject matter expert. Amuse Bouche is a shot glass of mushroom soup. Delicious, I even dunk the bread in it. The waiter suggests they bring the meal out in courses. Sure, that's cute! I liked the tuna, she liked the gnocchi- good start. I get the duck (imma always get the duck), she gets the fish- solid. Both perfectly cooked with contrasting textures that make every bite a pleasure. Neither of us were fans of whatever greens they served the protein on; whatevs, no biggie. None of the deserts stand out and we got a half gallon tub of Gunther's at home, so really, I'm good. But wait, Shad the waiter still brings out some sweet bites with "happy anniversary" written on the plate before we part ways. Service, 10/10. We're in and out in just a little over an hour and get home in time to put our lil guy to bed. What a great, low key night. Nice... is that it? Are we done here? Alright so a couple things: mains were impeccable, but like Fabolous once said "the entree ain't as good without something on the side." We got something on the side, but nothing that enhanced the protein to take the whole dish to the next level. Also (and I might be nitpicking here), the bread was not that good. Bread is important in fine dining; it sets the tone. If you give me half ass Safeway-esque sourdough, chances are I'm not gonna be super excited for what's next. First time coming here, met up with some friends for dinner. And we had a reservation and we were taken to our table. Our server came over introduced himself. Gave all the specials. He then took our drink order and any starter order. And we started with the Caesar salad and the tuna. While the food and ambience are worth the heavy price, my one experience at Hawks will be my last. The problem I had was solely with the server Jackie. I brought my girlfriend to Hawks for her birthday. The server began with her pitch about the tasting menu and other menu-related information, then asked my gf if she would like still or sparkling water. She chose still then Jackie walked away failing to ask me. I stated as she left "I would like some as well." And from that point on Jackie addressed my gf almost exclusively ignoring me as if I were the help. At one point after my gf had left for the restroom I hear her voice behind me as she addressed the back of my head: "Would you like a dessert menu?" As I turned to say "no" she was already walking away. No eye contact, no respect. Based on my observation, Jackie appears to be a professional server so her passive/aggression was no mistake. If my gf wasn't present I would have had words with Jackie as well as management. read more

This is what I would recommend as elegant dinning with attentive service. If you are looking for a place to impress your partner they set the standard for attentive service. From the time you enter to the time you leave it's all about you and your guests. Started out the "Ahi Tuna Tartare" then the "Slow Roasted Short Rib" and for dessert I had the "Ukrainian Honey Cake". The Tuna Tartar, with the Moroccan Spices stood out for me, this is not poke. But it was all about the beef. I have not had a better Short Rib anywhere else. Cook perfectly with good flavor on a bed of sweet corn with a splash of gravy. They have salt and pepper on the table, but if you feel a need to use, their is something wrong with you. Now the dessert, I took a risk with the "Honey", the word "Honey" just stands out as to sweet. You know the Winny the Poo thing. But it had a right balance with the berries and Chantilly creme. Went well with a fresh cup of coffee. Prices are reasonable. Remember your not just coming here for just the food, you'll be experiencing an attentive special night out. Enjoy. read more

We went here last night to celebrate my sister passing the bar and it did not disappoint. I was hesitant when I saw the menu, but literally every dish was delicious. They started us off with a shot glass of potato parmesan soup. Then we moved onto the Purée of Wild Mushroom Soup, which was one of the best soups I've ever tasted (I have a huge bias towards anything mushroom). Then we had a Caesar Salad that had whole romaine lettuce, shaved parmesan, sourdough croutons topped off with a fresh anchovy. I ordered the Red Kuri Squash Agnolotti, which I thought might be too sweet initially, but it was actually quite savory. The chanterelles (mushrooms) in that dish were . The squash was puréed to perfection inside the agnolotti. Bravo! My wife ordered the Truffle Cheeseburger which was exquisite as well with the wagyu beef cooked beautifully and the garlic aioli with the fries was tasty as well. My sister and mom had the Slow Roasted Short Rib, which I tried and was again not disappointed. It would shred apart easily with my fork. My dad and sister bf has the Idaho Red Trout that was very tender and moist. We ended the night with some of their complementary desserts and were very satisfied patrons. The service overall was top notch. We had a new server so I'll give her a pass. When they brought our dishes other servers would help bring everything at once so we didn't have to wait on other dishes to come out to begin eating. They would even come around scraping the crumbs off the table. The tab ended up being $500, so this place is pricey, but the service and dishes are elevated as well. One gripe, and this is common for this area, that even though we were in the dining area and not the bar, the number of TV's in the bar was distracting. All of us were blown away by both the food and the service. We had a variety of plates between us: wild mushroom soup (wow!! Incredible!), Apple and endive salad, tuna tartare (very fresh but a little strongly seasoned...), agnoloni (ravioli- so tender and delish! But a small serving), chicken and polenta (very good), and the gnocchi (melt in your mouth amazingness). We were too full to sample the desserts but we wanted to, as they looked devine. Visited twice in the past year 2023. Ambiance is a little crowded and a little noisy at peak times. Tables are close together. White linens on tables do not make up for loud talking neighbors which can overwhelm a romantic dinner. Food selections included elegant dishes that were cooked well--except for a reoccurring theme of too much salt in the gnocchi or potato dishes and even the meat seasonings. (The gnocchi had to go back because it made my wife and I cough.). Service was excellent with servers that attended to the table often. Will I go back? Fantastic restaurant, as it always has been. Everything here from the food to the drinks to the service is simply dialed in. In an age where everything has fallen apart post-COVID - Hawks continues to keep high standards. Yet several attention-seeking, look-at-me Yelp reviewers want to expand their "Yelp Score" by leaving relatively low reviews for nonsensical reasons. "Brie H." wanted the entire restaurant to take notice of her opening a greeting card - the whole restaurant. What? Brie H. if you want the entire room to revolve around you opening a greeting card, you can probably get that experience by eating at home. "Brenda R." (in barely coherent sentences) makes vague statements about "veggie flavors" and complains about limited menu choices. But "Brenda R." any high-end restaurant has a fairly limited menu - so what the restaurant does it does well. Brenda should watch a few episodes of Gordon Ramsey and realize a sprawling, "do everything" menu generally does nothing well. Brenda R. is free to go to the Cheesecake Factory where any of 60 items will be cooked to perfect mediocrity. "Trisha M." is a millennial expecting "free food, drinks, etc." the regulars get. I've been coming here for years, and I don't get or expect "free food, drink's etc." Preparing high end food takes time, effort, and hard work. I'm willing to pay for my dinner, why does "Trisha M." expect everyone to pay for hers? "Randy G." claims he was upsold an appetizer: something I've never experienced in eating here since 2008. Apparently, Randy G. and his entire group (lacking both appetite and spine) couldn't resist and ordered a charcuterie plate. For some reason, "Randy G." was upset they added extra bread, greedily wanted more wine than a standard pour, and whined about the prices - admitting "the food was very tasty." While Randy works through the PTSD stemming from his traumatic appetizer experience, he might find comfort at BJ's Restaurant - where he will be upsold on appetizers and get the mediocre meal fitting his two-star review. "Harley R." claims to be a foodie, claims she's a veteran of fine dining, lecturing us "have you ever been to a Michelin star restaurant"- yet refers to her charcuterie plate as a "meat board" - not once, but twice. Then (after admitting "the food was great") makes bizarre claims regarding how often her napkin was refolded when she went to the bathroom. Weird. Another self-entitled millennial exhibiting 'look-at-me' behavior on a public forum. "John I." uses the word "amazing" six times, claims the gnocchi was "the best we have ever had" and the bottle of wine was "perfect" but then leaves a mediocre review presumably because he found a nearby group of people loud. But "John I." himself admits restaurant moved him to his desired quiet location, finding him, what John himself called, "the perfect table" and then they found and poured "the perfect wine" which was "a challenge because he doesn't drink and she rarely does." So John got a perfect appetizer, perfect table, best gnocchi of his life, the perfect wine, had the staff jumping to reseat him to a perfect table and to feed his "super hungry" wife with an endless supply of bread - and yet John STILL leaves a mediocre review. We are in odd times - where attention-getters are trying to disrupt experiences for the rest of us. People, who spend every waking second on their phones, leave unfair, odd reviews so they can get more attention and achieve "Yelp elite status 2023." Sorry, the rest of us just want to have a nice dinner from time to time. read more
