We drove from out-of-state to purchase a passenger van from Hawkinson Kia. After several hours and having a surprise fee for paying in cash ($995), we finally drove off. On our second time using the vehicle (3 weeks after purchasing it and when the weather was finally hot), we noticed the AC wasn't working. We called the dealership and was told because it was a minor issue, they would not do anything about repairing the AC. Very disappointed. The worst car dealership I have ever used. Car dealers are worse than those kiosk cell phone people in the mall. They really need to get the hint. Every time I pass one of those kiosks I either feel the urge to jog, bury my face in my shopping bag, or pretend to have tourettes. No- I don't want to talk to you for a second. No- I already have a cell phone. NO- no one wants to buy a cell phone from a mall kiosk!! NO- no one wants the run around from pushy, desperate, shifty double-dealers. The more you try to keep me there and "drive home a new car today!!", the more I want to fake a bathroom trip and run out the back door. Just when I started thinking it might be easier to steal a car, I walked into Hawkinson Kia. When the first salesperson came up to my Step-dad and I, we both tried to avoid her. The "we are just looking" angle didn't work, but very shortly we realized this was a different atmosphere. CJ was amazing! She was funny, honest, and answered all my questions. She showed me all of my options and not until I was completely sure I wanted to continue, did she call the finance guy over. I found out later the last two places I was at shot my info to so many banks it dropped my credit score. After I sealed the deal on my new Hamster-mobile, CJ walked me through all of the basics and even synced up my phone with the bluetooth. Definitely going to be a lasting, stress-free relationship with this dealership for 100,000 miles to come! read more

I visited the Hawkinson Kia dealership and had a very pleasant experience with the sales people initially. They made me feel at easy and we finalized a deal for a Kia Sorento. Because I arrived with a rental car, the sales person drove me 5 miles to return the rental. When I drove off, I just realized I was provided with only one key. I called the sales person directly, but he was suddenly a lot less 'approachable' as before the deal. He told me that they only had 1 key. And that was it. When I got back home to lookup some info on their website (to write a review), I accidently came across the car I just bought and noted that the price advertised was USD 1,200 less then I paid for(!!) This spoiled my mood big time and I totally hated myself for not checking the internet when I was at the dealership. When I studied the sales contract, I also noticed that I was charged an additional 299,= for a useless Vehicle Sentry Protection program. I tried calling and emailing the sales people and their manager without any luck (of course). But I was made a promise that I will get a 2nd key however. Pretty annoyed about this whole situation I drove around in the car with mixed feelings. Then a letter of the owner (Mr Hawkinson) arrived. It was a courtesy letter thanking me very much for choosing Hawkinson etc etc. It said: "If I felt that I was not treated the way I thought I deserved to be threaten, I should contact him personally". The letter included his email and telephone number. I wrote him an email with a description of my issues. Also pointing out that maybe it was my mistake not being that sharp and alert about these issues during the sales process. And that I was strongly depending on the professionalism and reliability of the sales persons. Within half an hour Mr. Hawkinson himself was on the phone telling me that he will look into it an resolve these issue. He kept his word! Within two weeks I received a check compensating the advertised price cancellation of the Vehicle Sentry Protection program and new calculation of the taxes. He could not have handled this in a better way. I am highly impressed with his involvement and his thoroughness. I feel that this kind of service is only possible at a family business where the owner is that much attached to his company. I would definitely recommend Hawkinson for buying a car and most likely will buy my next car there as well. Lesson I learned; make a checklist and never buy a car alone so you can blame someone else for not checking thoroughly ;-) read more

I was degraded by one of their staff because of my credit issues and was told I couldn't drive "The best on the lot". Well I purchased a 2015 Kia Optima Turbo from another dealer for 10% less than these rip offs tried to stick me with. And with the same finance company they claimed they couldn't get me financed thru for a 2015 Kia Cadenza. IN RESPONSE TO HIS REPLY You got an approval for 21% of course that's exactly what I wanted to happen. When I went somewhere else and got an approval for 11% still high due to my bankruptcy but much better than 21% paying $650 for a 3 year old car. And got approved elsewhere for a 1 year of car paying $500. I kept the last vehicle to get my $1000 back because your dealership refused to give me back my money that you were NOT entitled to keep. Go get a bag of popcorn and read this entire review. It's going to save you money. I brought my car in for some warranty work and let me tell ya, it doesn't seem like they like doing work for free. I was told I needed $200 in lights replaced. I'm a professional driver. I always check my lights. I reluctantly allowed them to replace my license plate lights and refused the replacement of the other 4 lights they said were burnt out with intentions of doing it myself. Guess what... When I got my car back all the lights were fine. Clearly they were lying to me in my opinion. Then a week later my headlight burned out. When I replaced it I could see a finger print on it. I can only speculate how that got there. I was there three Saturdays in a row and over 8 hours in that waiting room hoping they would find the source of a squeak in the rear of my vehicle. They couldn't figure it out. I decided to try this Kia dealership because the Berwynn Kia dealership is so shitty. So here's my advice to you. Take a video recording of all of your lights on your car which includes you driving up to the dealership so you can see the dealership in the video. That way when they tell you that you need lights replaced you can just show them the video of how the lights were working perfectly up to the point where you drove up to the dealership and handed over possession of your car to them. This will eliminate any questionable lights that may need service since you just inspected them. Hawkenson Kia will likely respond to this and all I can say is you guys are truly disappointing. I've included a picture of a card that an employee gave me. Stay away from this guy. He will bother you nonstop to try to get you to trade your Kia in. Visited the dealership to look at a used car last week. Wanted to have my mechanic inspect prior to purchasing so set it up for this morning. My son confirmed with the sales rep we were working with yesterday and this morning received a text and phone call as we were on our way (45 minute drive). We arrived to learn that the vehicle had been sold through the online group at the related Nissan dealership. One would think that having had direct contact within the hour that we were on our way, that the car would at a minimum be on hold pending our arrival. Unfortunate and certainly reflective of poor internal communication within the dealership but not the end of the world. We asked if they had alternatives and they indicated that they had in inventory another vehicle, same year/color/features, however it was more than a thousand more that the True Car price we were quoted for the one we intended to purchase. We offered a counter price more than $500 above the other deal and rep had to go to her manager to review - we clearly communicated that it was a simple question requiring only a yes or no answer. Instead she came back and refused to provide an answer until we had looked at the car. About a half hour later we had looked at the car observed that it had around 9k more miles, and in not as good of condition as the first one. The final answer was that they could not meet the price we offered, which is fine, however there was no need to keep us hanging around an additional half hour when we were clear up front that if they could not meet our offer price we were not interested. Beware of this group, all the way from sales reps through management are more interested in playing games and wasting your time than offering good value and respecting their prospective customers time. Beware of the sneaky way they add on cost to your agreed upon purchase price. This is done by the Finance manager. Be careful. You agree on a price with the sales guy and you proceed to sign the paperwork with the finance guy. If you don't ask to see the final loan amount and the itemized bill to how you got to your total, you will miss that they added additional items such as "sealant coating" cost, that you never requested, that they can't prove that they put on the car and its a fee that they just include on your loan. This is a scam. Read on this, do your homework. Don't give away your money. Finance guys make their commissions also, that's why they push you so much on all the extra stuff, and insurance to add to your cost. And even if you say no, this guy at least, at this dealership, just added stuff to the loan amount, he skipped the page of the loan total so I wouldn't see it and only showed me my monthly payment. It was I, being from a Finance background as well, that requested to see the breakout of the total purchase and caught the additional items he had added. Go to more honest businesses. read more

They had several Carnivals listed and magically they were all "accidently mispriced". Figured i'd save someone a hassle and the report to the state and bbb i'm filing next week. I bought this "checked out" car three weeks ago I havent made the first car note and in all honesty it needs at min 5.5k in repair work of which $1500 is urgent. So after doing some research i decided to buy my used car with the friendly folks at hawkinson...never again. The volvo i bought was listed at a reasonable price for a used one with decent mileage and no major flaws. the site said that they have a tech check the cars and bob hawkinson stated in the article he hand picked the car at an auction.... Fast forward...i didn't haggle or do any extreme tactics i just walked in looked over the car with a careful eye for obvious flaws, took a test drive put down my money bought an extended warranty and drove off in my clean s60.... two weeks after i get it low coolant warning comes on....wow ok lets put a little in and stop at volvo. Volvo took 2-3hrs looked car over and says this car needs 6.7k in maintenance and repairs...sweet mother mary! the car is barely worth more. but I didn't freak out i drove over to hawkinson and asked about the two most obvious problems leaking power steering(common on this car i wasn't shocked) and (bing!) the radiator! the radiator has a slow leak that the volvo tech said was as easy as putting the car on a lift and looking. I get to hawkinson and the couldn't check it out it was two late in the day. a week later i'm back at 8am and waiting for them to check the car. long story short folks 7hrs later i do need a radiator! They claim to have fixed the power steering hose by tightening even though volvo said the reservoir needs replacement. only time will tell. On to the radiator: Volvo=$920, Hawkinson=$1051, Trusted Local=$720 Here's what tee's me clean off Did hawkinson just really sell me this wreck? yes! was it check out really? possibly! were any of these things disclosed or fixed of course not. they passed the buck and sold a new customer a wreck! did they offer to at least match the repair in good faith considering I bought it this way from them? NO! Do not trust them to have had a "tech" (maybe they have a blind one) check out the car ur buying. Better yet avoid them for a used car. The reviews here are legit. They are dishonest. If I could give them a -0, I would. Kia Motors can't give me a car for free. I have bought numerous cars and suv's from them and I recommended family and friends. Let me tell you why I will never purchase another car from them if someone held a gun to my head. I was having issues with my front tire of my 2019 Kia Optima, and I took it in twice because, my tire sensor keep saying tire low pressure. So it wasn't until I brought it in a second time that I believe they actually, took the tire off and tested it. I asked did I need to make and appointment both times before bringing my car in, and the guy said no just bring it in, that's minor we will just take a look. Now when he returned my car to me he said you had a nail in tire, we fixed it and your all set. A couple days later same issue, same tire, I was out of town and I asked my daughter to take it to discount tires just to have them check it out. My daughter called me and the manager got on the phone and told me whoever fixed this tire should have never done this, they plugged the sidewall and we can not do anything with this tire and that's a major hazard. I was instantly pissed, because Kia Motors service department never told me that the nail was in the sidewall and that the tire was no good and that I need a new tire. I only found out because discount tires told me, I called Kia Motors and the service manager stated his technicians would never do that, he had no idea where I could have taken my car. He insisted I had to take the car somewhere else, and I told him I only brought my cars to Kia for repairs. He said let me investigate this and he would get back to me. So I asked him to call my mom since I was out of town. She called me that next morning stating he checked into it, and they don't have any invoices showing they did any work. I told her BS they won't find anything because they told me just to bring it in, I remember everyone I spoke to when I came in there that day. They are playing with customers lives. They couldn't fix a tricycle if I had one. Now my second issues is that my car was hesitating when I tried to accelerate. This happen one month ago, they SUPPOSEDLY checked it out and nothing was wrong. Now I just took it to the Kia in Orland for regular oil change and recalls to be fixed. They tell me they had to replace my battery as well I haven't even had the car a year. These cars are so expensive and aren't worth a quarter. I get my car to leave dealership and pull out on 159th and my car would not accelerate, now there's cars coming at me, so I'm screaming, Thank God the light turn red and they all start slowing down. So I make a u-turn and go right back to dealership and I tell the guy something is wrong with my car. Lights on the dash and my car won't accelerate, he takes the car to get re-checked. Twenty minutes later he's bringing me paperwork for a loaner, and telling me my car is not safe to drive. He said some of my gears are completely gone, no reverse and one other gear. Now how can that be that fast, I believe when I took my car to the Matteson KIa Motors that's what was happening then, there lazy A**ES did not take the time to do there job. We get warranties on our cars and sometimes extra warranties and we can't trust that they will inspect our cars and fix the things that should be fixed. I'm always out on the highways and traveling, if those gears would have went out while I was on the expressway the day before with my son, and we were killed or anything could have happen.Then what would they have to say. Probably say they never checked that either. I am so disgusted and disappointed in Kia Motors in matteson, because you have ruined my trust and faith in your dealership. I won't recommend or refer anyone or have anything good to say about your cars or that dealership ever. As of right now they still have my car, I don't know if I can trust that it will be fixed properly, I don't even want that car now, I think its a lemon. Between 2 cars 2016 and newer we have had 5 oil changes. Not ONE has been less than an hour and a half wait. But if you buy their warranty that covers "everything " you must get your car serviced from them. It is very unacceptable as we can go up the street 2 miles and be home in 45 minutes. Next oil change we are not going to make an appt but just show up and see how much time that takes. Also, you need to jump through hoops for their referral program. We sent our son and girlfriend up there and they did purchase a vehicle but since we didn't have them listed in their system and apparently our son did not tell them in an opportune time, too bad. We both do like our cars but are wondering if everything else that goes on with Hawkinson is worth repeat business or new business. read more

My husband and I bought a new Kia Sorento (which we love) on Saturday, June 15th. However, we aren't completely happy with our buying experience. Someone called my husband after he inquired about the specific Kia that we wanted on the website - we agreed to come in after the woman he spoke with (sorry didn't catch her name) said she would have the vehicle ready for us. We arrived around 330 and unfortunately had to bring our kids (4 and 1) with us as our babysitter had to leave unexpectedly. We thought it would be fine, though, as the car was said to be ready for us when we arrived - we had already test drove a similar vehicle at another dealership and knew that's what we wanted. However when we arrived, the vehicle wasn't there and it seemed no one had any idea that we were coming in to see it. From there, the whole process was very rushed and we felt like we didn't get all of the options presented to us. We wanted to keep under a certain monthly payment and were told it could only happen if we were able to out more money down then we originally planned - which we were okay with, if the price came down a little bit. We wanted to keep the monthly payment under a certain dollar amount - which with the 66 month 0% financing came to an agreed upon price as our "final price" before down payment and trade in value. We were told the price would be the agreed upon price (let's say $20,000 just to make it easier) and again we understood that was our "bottom line price" which we were ok with as we were going to put a certain amount down and were offered a certain amount as trade in as a trade in. However, when looking at the document yesterday, it looks like the price paid the price after the down payment and trade in value. Honestly, we had been at the dealership for a long time and our kids were starting meltdown and we probably didn't look at the paperwork as closely as we should have, but we trusted our salesperson to have our best interests at heart. We were told we would be given a remote start, which was almost left off until my husband brought it up during the financing portion. We also feel like things could have been explained more in depth and more time could've been taken with the price breakdown. Again, we were disappointed in our buying experience and hopefully that can be rectified in the future. We received a call yesterday (6/17) that the dealership forgot to collect the down payment check and also forgot to remove the fob from one of the sets of keys that were given to us. During the call, we were not even asked how we liked the car, if we were happy, etc. My husband took the time out of his day to bring the check in and return the fob, and didn't even get as much as a "thank you" or "sorry". We love the Kia brand and are extremely happy with our vehicle but are disappointed with the service we received. We have another car that will most likely need to be replaced within the next 2-3 years and while we do like Kia brand, but we would not go back to this dealership. I reached out to a manager via e-mail and while he was genuine and apologetic for the experience that we had. I understand that there is only so much he can do "after the fact" but-we still feel like our concerns weren't being fully addressed. Hopefully our experience can help someone else avoid a similar situation. read more

What they don't tell you about the online price is that there are other options they add on the car (even if you don't want them) at an extra cost, but they leave that off of the online price. I have a new appreciation for the CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE. The entire process from beginning to end was pleasant, and hassle free. Starting with Daveed, our salesman, he truly listened to our needs and got us into a car that fit us to a T! He was warm and down to earth. I've never felt so comfortable test driving cars. We then negotiated financing terms, and additional options with John and Ben, both of whom were extremely informative. Usually you feel pressured to settle for certain deals, but instead they sincerely wanted me to be as knowledgeable as possible about all my financing and leasing options. The additional warranties and options were explained in detail, with care! Not to force me, but to inform me of the available perks this business offers. Finally we spoke with the general manager, such a gentleman, Mr. Dave Shoup. Helped closed the sale with efficiency and ease. Didn't waste any time! Honestly I had reservations and anxiety about this whole experience. I came in with my guard up anticipating a tough time, but was quickly proven wrong with Hawkinson Kia. I recently made an appointment for an oil change, tire rotation and a "check up" for my Kia Soul. I drove 30 miles to go to this dealer because I was not happy with service at another. First thing they recommended was to change my license plate holders to Hawkinson, which I agreed to do (now I wish I hadn't). Next thing they came and asked if I had been having trouble with my the car starting. I said, absolutely no problems at all.... well, they found my battery was not charging and in fact could not even start the car. They had to jump it in their shop. I couldn't drive away without putting in a new battery. At this point, I really should have left, but stupidly, I agreed. Then they found some cabin filter that was filthy and suggested I replace it (ok - no biggie). So I got out of there paying $255 (mostly for the battery which I do not think I needed). As I was driving home, the tire inflation warning light came on (seems like they would have checked and appropriately inflated tires as they did their "23 point inspection" and also a tire rotation, don't you think? I didn't have time to turn around and go back so when I got home, I called the service manager who's name was on my receipt. He didn't even bother to call back. It gets worse. Two weeks later, my daughter was driving the car and the brakes completely gave out, malfunctioning and making growling noises. I took it to a local Midas shop and discovered that the brakes were in really bad shape. Again, I kind of expected that the 23 point inspection would include a look at the brakes. I guess not. That day, there must have been special sales bonus points for batteries and license plate holders. I don't really know what happened but since the guy couldn't be bothered to even call me back the first time, I don't want to waste time with them. I spent my money getting my brakes fixed elsewhere. read more

I will never get my car serviced at Kia services again unfortunately ,I've been bringing my car here for years now never have any problems until now. I took my car here thinking they would help me fix the issue(my 2016 KIa Soul would not allow me to accelerate over 40mph and the rpm would go up too high) , what a mistake that was i was immediately told my engine was failing that it had locked up as soon as they did their diagnosis test and it would cost me 7,000 to 8,000 for a used engine. I thought that was strange because I drove my car there I asked Bill what happen he didn't really explain anything just said that kia soul engines fail all the time ,am like okay he's mechanics and am at dealership what do I know .. I immediately inform Bill I have extended warranty coverage and give him their info for him to contact Am thinking this will be over soon boy was I wrong A feW dayS after I dropped my car off my extended warranty company sends out the 1st inspector  he tells them it's not my engine and ask for more information and for Bill to provide or prove their findings on cause of failure. The whole time I've  been calling  Bill because he's telling  when things are going to be done the process ,which has been going on for weeks now ... they drops my oil pan saying there's metal in my engine the extended warranty wants pics and more info basically  proof so they can realease funds for another "ENGINE OR MAYBE TRANS  because Bill doesn't know if it's both or which one is causing "failure".. am waiting another week & another week because again they can't provided cause of failure. Bill stop returning phone calls and hasn't been in to work. I was relentless with calling BILL for answers because I just wanted my car back at this point I was done with the B.S ...I was able to talk to another person who informed me to speak with Amy who could assist me she takes over and has to send more info out another week has pass btw , The second inspector has to come out to see what they can provide to show as cause of failure the 2nd inspector comes out tells them it's NOT my ENGINE or TRANSMISSION IT'S the CATLIYIC CONVERTER  THAT needs replacing I was so confused by this, how couldn't they figure this out seeing as they had my car for almost an entire MONTH & told me my engine LOCKED up and was failing oh and maybe transmission too ..if it hadn't been for my extended warranty company I would have been scammed out of 7, 000 to 8,000 for an engine and maybe transmission I did not need  I ended up not paying a dime and getting my rental paid for by them they have loaner cars and work with HERTZ .... Oh am not even finish they gave me my car back in poor conditions the catliyic converter they put on my car is either use or done incorrectly seeing as it's been making a loud rattling noise from the moment I got my car back ,rather then deal with these scammers i chose to leave with my car like that really sad  they lost  an loyal customer like this sad, my car stills need servicing they did so much to it to try prove to my extended warranty company that I needed an 7k to 8k job when I in fact did not... its frustrating  because now I have to look for a new place to get my car serviced which has been extremely difficult for me now because am thinking all shop are trying scam me now or can't properly fix my car which is still making a rattling noise from the catliyic converter that they definitely rushed to put my car back together . Word of advice if go here  get an second opinion and  avoid  BILL ask for someone else to assist you. If you need help ask for Amy she was helpful even though they tried to blame this whole nightmare on my extended warranty company I guess she made this process better she got my rental paid for because i couldn't get covered until they could provide the extended warranty whatttt they needed she gave me her cell phone number dealing with her made the process faster  Never take ANY advice from BILL sorry not sorry he will tell you ,you need an new engine or transmission when you don't.... read more

Had rear brakes (both sides) done at Kia Hawkinson in late December, 2015. In early March, 2016 heard a loud grinding sound from the brakes and took it back in. This time, they claim the rear caliphers were bad. Yet they claim (somehow) that the rear calipers suddenly went bad between late December & early March, even though they did a complete brake job. Do NOT take your vehicle to Hawkinson Kia unless you are sure it is fully under warranty - they do NOT stand behind any of their work!!!! If you live in the HomerGlen area, I strongly recommend Bellside 7 Auto who is VERY honest, reliable and stands behind all of their work. read more

Worst service department ever. I still own 3 KIA'S but will never step a foot into Hawkinson again. And a follow note since this didn't post. My salesperson called and left a message for me to call him if I had any questions, I did have a concern about something and called back within 45 minutes went to voicemail. Went in to look at a 2022 Kia Seltos. MSRP price listed on window sticker, next to it is Hawkinson's price which was almost $5000 more . $2000 of it was a market adjustment, the rest was vin etching, window tinting, wheel locks etc. Salesman convinces me every dealer is adding the market adjustment due to the car shortage, which seemed feasible. I test drove it and really liked it, however it wasnt the color I wanted. We start talking dollars and he comes back with the manager numbers which now included a $4000 market adjustment . when I pointed this out he quickly scratched through it and wrote 2000 instead. The car I drove was the SX model, I put a deposit down so they could bring me the color I wanted from another dealership. When I get home and read the receipt and papers given to me,I realized they're bringing me the LX model, which is drastically different in features and price. Bait snd seitch. I called Kia in Bradley , told them what happened and drove down same day . Absolutely no market adjustment, no forced add- ons, and they gave me a better price on my trade-in. I love my new Kia Seltos and highly recommend Kia of Bradley. read more

Bought a used Rio from them. They said it went through a thorough inspection. Car turned out to be a nightmare. Constantly in the shop for electrical issues that started while my son was driving it back to school. $10,000 piece of junk. Update: After several visits to a Kia Dealership, the electrical issues were finally fixed,battery had to be replaced, the auxiliary jack was broken and had to be replaced, the air conditioner filter was clogged, and several light bulbs were out and had to be replaced. Next time try actually inspecting the vehicle before selling it. What a joke. My suggestion is getting a third party mechanic to do the inspection. read more
