It got so bad they tinted the service bay windows so you couldn't see what they were doing . Not worth the overpriced service , lack of skill set,and poor experience. 2022 was my last horrible made appointments at Indiana since New Lennox (2021) simply cancelled appointment and lied about contacting me . I took off work and was unable to get anything done. Indiana shop canceled appointment randomly while I was on the way to my visit. I got in hold with Regional manager who refunded my lifetime warranty alignment charge and gasoline for both trips that were out of my way by hours. read more

My name is Michael and I took my dodge caravan to get 4 new tires installed. This should have been a simple task and I spoke to the assistant manager Kris and he had some struggles getting the rims off to replace the tires. He initially changed two and I told him I'll bring the van back to install the other two. I was willing to work with him to get this done. Two weeks later, I returned and attempted to buy the other two tires. They had the van for approximately two weeks but all through this ordeal, Kris was very professional and I really felt he was doing everything he could to resolve the situation. In the attempt to remove the rims from the car, two of the studs on 2 of the rims were broken. Kris had told me that we may need to damage a rim to get it off. Again, I was still willing to work with them because of his professionalism and he was very contrite through the whole process. I had to rent a vehicle for a few days as I needed to get to a work assignment. I agreed to cover some of the repairs for the attempt that Kris made. I went to purchase a rim from a used part store and took it to the site. This is where everything went wrong.... Kris wanted to do something to compensate me for my patience, understanding and my willingness to continue to work with them through this process. I then met Brandon the manager..... he was rude and obnoxious. Kris offered me 4 tires for the price of two but I had already bought 2 tires so that would have me with 6 tires all together where I only needed 4. I asked Kris if he could give me 2 free ones and I pay for the repairs. Brandon immediately accused me of trying to just get free tires and suggested he should have charged me full price for everything and I needed to be happy that they had even done what they had at this point. I instantly got insulted and explained to him that I brought my van in with 4 working tires and just needed new ones. The studs were broken by Pep Boys and the working rim was damaged also by Pep Boys needing the replacement to a new one. This whole situation took a total of about a month and I paid for a replacement rim, and repair work and not to mentioned the car rental fees and all the other inconvenience I experienced!! Then to top it off, he has the nerve to be rude!! Not once did he apologize for damaging the studs and rim and nor did he acknowledge the inconvenience and expense I incurred. I tried to explain to him that it wasn't just about the costs, it was his nasty attitude that escalated me to the point that I needed to write this letter. I'm sorry that Kris has to endure the sting of this letter. Only because of him, I tolerated this nasty experience but it wasn't a bad experience until Brandon got involved. I own my service company and have 6 vehicles that Pep Boys has serviced multiple times. It was because of Brandon's poor attitude and rudeness that this will be my last interaction with Pep Boys. I hope and wish great things for Kris but I highly suggest that Brandon gets retrained for the sake of Pep Boys. Thanks to him, I am now an ex customer. I went to check on my engine light on. It took them 6 hours to figure it out. I have a Nissan Sentra 2015 and it needed the cataylic converter and the pipe. They said its $2,300!! They even wanted to charge me 250 to take the part and put it in ALONE. They charged me $110.98 for the diagnosis which makes no sense! I refused service with them and i found a better mechanic that charged me less! Also David had a really bad and unprofessional communication skills. He called me about my car and went quiet after he said " its pepboys" i was like "yes?". He said " yes its pepboys" like dude im listening talk! Not recommend I went up to pep boys to get a sample tire swap from my factory rims to my aftermarket ones ... First off The service wasn't good at all it took them 2 hrs for this simple job Second I have a BMW and they let an Amateur work on it and which i totally disagree on not an Amateur type of car and they shouldn't have allowed him to do such. As soon as I got into my car I had to reset my tire pressure monitor which they where supposed to do since I noticed they where looking under my hood and I was only there to get my tires swapped not engine work there is no way they where supposed to be under there. He claim he was checking the battery but that's in the trunk ... If they have to inspect the car they sure didn't when it was time to leave after they put my wheels back on and didn't make sure after that everything was fine but they didn't and my tire went flat directly after I left the shop. I had to stop to get air returned there and didn't get a full inspection of the wheel. Just a water spray bottle on and some more air such terrible service the manager said he'll look out for me next time I visit but I'm never going back in fear of them doing another terrible job. Came in because of thumping and squeaking sounds coming from my left rear wheel. Was charged nearly $1000 for new wheel bearings and a rear trailer arm. The sound never went away.. I took it to another mechanic. He said the sound was because the lug nuts on the wheel were not the correct size. So he replaced them and my car is quiet once again. Find it funny how I had to pay so much for parts and labor and not have my issue resolved, when another mechanic figured out the problem in about 5 minutes. Go figure.. read more

I took my Cadillac TS to them because I have some shaking in my front wheel. The Friday after Thanksgiving I dropped it off. They didn't get to it until Sunday, but I had an appointment Friday. I was told it was the brakes and I need tires. I got the tires done and new brakes and I picked my car up Monday or Tuesday. I didn't drive the car because of the snow cause I had another all-wheel-drive car. I drove the car and January and it started shaking again. I took the car back and I was told it needed alignment and wheels balance. I stated, didn't you guys balance the wheels when I purchase the tires also, you guys didn't notice that the alignment was off when you put the tires on. They did the work and I picked my car up days later. Drove the car and it's still shaking so I took it back And was told that the balance and alignment is off this is my second alignment and balance. And this is my third time taking it too you guys. Pick the car up for a third time after two alignments and two wheel balancer and is still shaking. I took it to FIRESTONE And asked him to look at it. Right off the back I was told my brakes was on wrong and there are no good. Also, the reason for the shaken was the motor about. They found a problem within 15 minutes. Why Pep Boys couldn't see that. I notified Pep Boys that my brakes is on wrong and I needed another alignment and balancing I was told that I had to bring my car back to the to get it fixed. Are you crazy? You guys worked on my car three times and it's worse than what it was when I brought it in and November and now it's late March early April. They gave me my money back for the alignment, but stated if I don't break my car back to them for the brake job, I cannot get my money back. I will never go there again. read more

I had an appointment for 11:30 am on a Saturday. When I was finally acknowledged, the service rep told me that they will get to my car after the 4 other cars that were in front of me, even though I had an appointment. New employee Noe at the front desk was very personable and went over the free 21 point inspection for my car, which was very thorough and pointed out I needed my belt replaced, tires in next few months and alignment, and that the battery was strong. I am trying really hard not to give them only 1 star giving them the benefit of the doubt. Long story short after spending just under $1k for some of repairs they recommended on my car, I have been back here 2x within one week for issues. I originally had contol arms and ball joints fixed and an allignment. After I picked it up it sounded worse and drove worse than when I brought it in so i brought it back the next day. Supposedly there was something loose that wasnt secured they fixed it no charge and also did an allignment again. A day later I was driving on the expressway and the underbody guard fell off on one side and started dragging. I had to pull off and call someone to help me because I had no idea what it was. Brought my car back in and they are putting it back on for no charge since it wasnt properly secured when they put it back on. I also mentioned my steering wheel is off from the 2 allignments they did and they looked at me strangely but I dont have time to deal with that today so I need to bring it back so they can fix it. I've been a longtime customer of the Pep Boys franchise but historically I've always gone to the location in Crestwood. For some reason I ended up having my rear breaks done at the Matteson location last year. My breaks were squeaking so naturally I went to the Matteson location figuring that my breaks would still be under warranty. I stopped in Pep Boys around noon and explained that my breaks had been making a loud noise. I was told that it there would be a long wait since it was a Saturday afternoon. After an hour or so, the technician informed me that the rotors/front brakes needed to be replaced as well as one of the drums. The rear brakes were covered but the front brakes would cost $411. Additionally, I was told that a my license plate light and tail light was out so I paid $30 for two lights. I let Pep Boys repair the rear brakes since it was covered but decided to take it elsewhere to have the front brakes done. I had to wait another hour for the car to be ready which was annoying but understandable given it was a Saturday afternoon. Immediately after leaving Pep Boys I went over to Tuffy's in Orland Park. I have history with Sam and Joe so I wanted them to take a look at my car. They replaced the front brakes at a cheaper rate than Pep Boys was charing AND took a look at my newly repaired back brakes as a courtesy. Turns out that the Pep Boys technician's neglected to clean and adjust the back brakes! So Sam did it free of charge. AND he replaced the license plate and tail light bulbs!!! The VERY SAME ONES that I just paid Pep Boys for!!!! Once again Sam replaced the bulbs free of charge! You just can't beat service like that. Despite being highly annoyed and feeling as though I was ripped off I just let it go. I didn't bother calling the Pep Boys location because I really wasn't in the mood to hear any lies or denials. One thing is clear to me though... I won't be ever be returning to Pep Boys. Clearly, they make a practice of taking advantage of women. If you want good service then head over to Tuffy's. Pep Boys automotive service obviously don't appreciate it's loyal customers so I doubt they'll miss you. read more

Felt taken advantage of! I was passing through the area, and had a tire blow out, so this was the closest place to go to get a new tire. They barely said anything about what damage my tire sustained. Then they try tell me I need two new back tires, because the dealer I had just purchased this vehicle from did not rotate the tires. When I asked them to put this in writing they refused, so I knew they were full of sh&^! I had one tire replaced and it cost me $175. The staff is RUDE and hardly speaks to you, one guy looked like he was suffering through a hangover! Avoid this place especially if you're female. My fiancé brought her car in to have the brakes done, AC blower replaced and to fix a "squeal" she was hearing that sounded like a belt. She let them keep the car for 3 days. Upon picking up the car, she got in after paying and found the interior panels not put back in place, the check engine light was on, the low tire pressure light was on. None of which were on when we dropped off the car. After another 20 min, an employee cleared the check engine light and she was on her way. Fast forward 2 weeks, the squeal that they charged over $400 for parts and labor is still there, the same as it was before. So upon calling the store to find out what to do, she was advised to contact the Service Manager, Hector-who ironically was the same person she spoke to when she dropped off the car for service. This is day 5 of trying to get Hector on the phone. When asked her name, the employee comes back..."he's in a meeting, he's on a conference call and won't be available the rest of the day, he's unavailable....etc. Nice customer service, Hector. Do a part swap, slap the car back together, don't check to see if you fixed the problem and collect the cash. Great way to treat women. read more

I took my car to this shop about 3 weeks ago for a new battery to be installed. Service was fine at that time, and they had my car ready the next day. It ran fine for a week, until one day I came out of the grocery store and didn't start again. Had it towed back to Pep Boys for them to see what else could be going on. Since it was on a Sunday, no tech was available, but my husband was told that there a couple cars ahead of us, so would try to look at it on Monday and it would be 69.99 for them to run a test, considering they just installed the new battery the week prior. No call was received from Pep Boys, so my husband called to check the status on that Thursday. When he called he was told that they were looking at it, and would follow up by the end of the day, but he never received a call back. Since we still hadn't heard a status update, I decided to follow up on the Saturday to know if they found out what was wrong with the car. I was put on hold for a few minutes and then one of the service reps came back to the phone and told me that the tech had never looked at my car, he was really back up and they were never able to pull my car around to the service bay because the steering wheel was locked, since my car cannot power up, so I would then need to call a tow truck AGAIN to have it moved over to where their service garage was. I was LIVID, because Pep boys had already been informed by my husband and the tow truck driver that the vehicle would not start, so the gear shift would not work in order to put it neutral. Then to add insult to injury, I was then told that it would be $312 now for the tech to run a diagnostics check on my vehicle, even though we were told it was only going to be 69.99. This mad no sense that no one called us for a week about the status or that we needed to have it moved around to the service bay. My husband and I decided to drive up to the shop to speak with a manager. One representative informed us that we wasn't there, but listened to our problem. The other gentleman at the counter didn't seem to car AT ALL that this was poor customer service and that we were LIED to on Thursday, because my husband was told that they were preparing to look at my vehicle that evening, and NO ONE called back at all to inform us of the situation. My car had been sitting in the parking lot for A WEEK and no one ever called. We had to call to find out what was going on. Needless to say, we asked for the key back and taking it another shop. Will not be visiting this location anymore, despite the convenience in location. The managers are rude and unaccommodating. I scheduled an appointment to have my A/C fixed. When I got to my appointment, I was told that there is only one employee certified to do the A/C service and that he had called off that morning. I NEVER received a phone call/email/text to cancel my appointment, which would have been the professional thing to do instead of having me still come up there just to be told that I can't be serviced. When I asked FRED what I was supposed to do, he shrugged his shoulders and said "make another appointment, my apologies."
