Idk why this place has such a low rating. Booked through Airbnb for a staycation. Unit was fully equipped with kitchen and extras. Pool with BBQ grills. A/C was cold, big windows that slide open. No bugs noted in the unit. City views were impeccable. And for the price we paid? I'd definitely stay here again. Only con is I had to pay $45 for parking. But it's Waikiki ‍ you can choose to opt for street parking if anything

RUN AND DON'T LOOK BACK This place was advertised as a work from home location but it is absolutely disgusting & infested with cockroaches. Ive stayed in long term stays in O'ahu and I've never had a bad experience until now. The place is infested with roaches, smells bad, there was pubic hair all over the room. The walls are also paper thin and people are playing loud music/being loud in the hallways. Do yourself a huge favor and book something nicer. Your physical and mental health deserve it.

My opener is something I found myself thinking often during my stay, 'This place is a trash ass dump.' When I arrived there was no front desk staff, no one answered the phone, and no employees to be found. Luckily (was it tho?) the front desk person happened to wander up from her smoke break before I left. Check in went well enough. Typical stuff. This building is part hotel and part Airbnb/condos. I originally booked with Airbnb but canceled as the hotel was cheaper and the room was a lot bigger. I don't know that it made a difference in all honesty. The place is a dump. The ceiling in my shower was bulging due to water damage. The headboards are somehow hung up on wood on the wall and will fall down. The sheets are absolutely disgusting. The worst ever.... Parking is a joke and is pricing 100% arbitrary. Apparently if you rent from 808 SmartCars (in same building, one desk over) you get a discount on parking. I paid $20 for 48 hours. Parking is cash only (sketchy) and is NOT assigned. I went during "winter" so it wasn't an issue but if it's crowded, beware. You could wind up paying for nothing. I don't know who decided to hire leather face's grandma to run the parking deck but I'd say it's time she retired. DO NOT STAY HERE. The whole situation is unsanitary and feels unsafe.

    This busted stupid wall paper.

This place was the WORST place I could ever go. Yes it was a good price, but my mom and I arrived and there was one worker. And three people complaining. Then we had to wait an hour for our room. When we finally got to the room, it was old fashioned and smelt nice... but there were stains in the microwave and fridge and on top of that there was a bigger issue. Booger on the wall!! And a piece of rice, AND scratches and dents in the wall. Overall I hate this place and don't recommend it. So fuck this place off your list of cheap hotels. And BTW I hate it so much I didn't want to even rate a star but yelp makes me.

This place sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't stay here..... period Sketchy was Fuck! Crappy bathroom with tub that had a soft floor. How? For $100 a night in Waikiki last minute I get it but no, seriously no. Don't even consider it. We stayed in the hotel section, maybe the AirBNB is better? $25 a night cash to park, the attendant was rude as hell. Hey we didn't get bed bugs! That's about all I can say good about it. Tweeker Monarch is more appropriate Aloha

I recently (April 2019) stayed here during my trip to Oahu and I booked my lodging via Airbnb. I'm really confused how this building works though? Hotel is in the title but I think people live here too. I've stayed at another hotel like this in Oahu before as well, except it was through Expedia. My room at the time had hotel cleaning services but the unit next to me was definitely someone living there full time. I don't know, I don't get it and I know there are a lot of places like this in Oahu but it worked for me! I stayed in a 500 square foot corner unit (estimating) on the 14th floor. It had a queen sized bed, bathroom, sink, mini fridge, and microwave. It was perfect for my fiancé and I. We also had an amazing view of the city and pool. Loved it! Our specific unit was a bit tight but it worked well as we just needed a room for sleep. Paid parking is available for $25/day, full access to pool (bbq area also available), laundry, and gym (one time rate of $5 for our stay, not sure if that's the same for everyone). I never made my way to the lobby but there are some food options (burger spot and a café with pastries and coffee I think). If I ever visit again, I would stay here. It's walking distance from a 7-11, ABC store, and some restaurants. It is extremely close to Waikiki as well. If you're looking for something super fancy, this is not the right place for you. The building is pretty old and grimy, the hallways reminded me of a murder scene from a movie (HAHA) but our unit was clean and inviting with AC. Just be sure about your specific unit and everything should be fine. My Airbnb host was Choi, she was lovely to work with and I recommend her place for sure if it ever pops up on your search! Not too shabby for $80/night!

We stayed here one night as we arrived a night early for a longer stay somewhere else. The staff was friendly, though the hotel room itself was pure basics it certainly did the job for one night. All the staff we bumped into in the morning were very friendly. And, when in Hawaii, can you really complain about much?? Though next time, I think we'll just pay for a nicer hotel.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! I'm sure you'll see a deal on Booking, Expedia or other sites but trust me go elsewhere. I've stayed at better motel 8s than this! EVERYTHING WAS DISGUSTING. The towels were stained, curtains and rug. The signs all over the hotel were indicating they have an ant problem and much more. They're Air B and B and it's pretty odd due to fees being different ( shouldn't they be the same). They share a parking lot which is $25 a day!!! Like wth is it not included in the hotel fee! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AND FIND A DIFFERENT HOTEL. The pictures are obviously a lie.

Disgusting!!! 1) Paid $108.27 for one night. 2) Cockroach infested & Ant infested. 3) Deathly Hot 4) Terrible service 5) Wifi doesn't work. 6) Bathtub is absolutely horrid 7) Toilet has pre existing poop on the bottom 8) Cooler smelled nasty 9) Hot tub doesn't work or even open for use. 10) The hotel smells like pee. 11) Looks like a drug house. Apparently this is all normal for this hotel... Do not rent a room under this hotel. If you do, RENT it through Airbnb. The best decision I have ever made!

    Oh, look! Another bath tub

DISCRIMINATES AGAINST DISABLED! The worst hotel I've ever stayed in. I'm a disabled woman with a prosthetic leg. We checked into our room, & realized there was only a shower. Calling the front desk, advising them that I am unable to bathe without a tub or shower chair, as the shower has NO shower bar or safety equipment. I asked if they could accommodate me, with a different room or a shower chair, as we would be staying for 5 nights & I need to clean myself. I was told that "it specifically states on their website that this is not a handicapped accessible hotel, & that they do not have bath tubs here. They rudely stated there was nothing they could or would do to help me. I called Expedia, as they are who we booked our trip through. After almost 90 minutes going back & forth, & several calls made from Expedia to the hotel manager, they told me the same information I was previously told, & there was nothing they could do. As I was on hold, I investigated the hotel website, & also other reviews, & found the hotel policy, which states that disabled guests should bring their concerns to the front desk, & the staff would make every effort to accommodate all reasonable requests. I've attached a screenshot. I also found several photos of other rooms with bathtubs in their bathrooms, & attached those also. I explained that this was evidence of blatant discrimination against a disabled person. Expedia looked up the information, & copied it for their files, as they agreed with me, & are filing a report against the hotel themselves. They also offered to support me, in any way, should I decide to file a lawsuit against the HAWAIIAN MONARCH for discrimination. We have family staying at a nearby hotel, so we have made arrangements for me to travel across town to bathe in their hotel room daily, which I will also be using against this hotel, in my complaint. Along with the lack of free WiFi, parking which costs an additional $30 per day, horribly rude staff, lack of even a free continental breakfast, very noisy AC unit, & hallway noise, we even called to ask for extra pillows, & a lady at the desk told me housekeeping went home, so I could pick them up from the desk myself. (Yes, I still have only one leg, but I'll make the walk). If I'm paying a RESORT FEE, their lazy asses can bring them to me, like any well run facility would. I could never imagine such low class service, & am ashamed to admit we are staying here. PLEASE, do yourself a favor, & run away! Sleeping on the street would offer better service.

I'm embarrassed for the Malihinis (Visitors) who come from all around the world to come visit the beautiful Hawaii Nei and have booked this hotel. Please avoid staying here, unless you don't care about customer experience. It doesn't exist here at the Hawaiian Monarch. It used to... When I was younger, this was a popular go to place to stay and the night club used to host a line waiting to just get in. Today, it is barely a whisper of what it should be. Upon my arrival, the front desk guy who greeted me was not very welcoming. In fact, he's the opposite. In his very monotone and unenthusiastic voice with his blank facial expression, he checked me in. Actually, it was a painful process that doesn't blend in well with the Aloha spirit. I did like his unique "Bowl" style haircut. When I got into my room, it seemed okay at first glance but when I continued to settle in and unpack, I started to notice the unpleasant details. The rug. It's in many shades of green. Green mildew. Green stains. Green mold. Faded green to yellow patches from possible stain washes in the last several years. The furniture looks like items you may find on the street side walks to be repurposed to use as new furniture. Even the small refrigerator sits on the floor by the entrance door (#ghetto) - which makes it difficult to open and close the fridge. There's no wifi in the rooms but there is wifi in the laundry room. The hotel charges a $10.00 per day "resort fee", you would think they can work in a way for wifi. [Small note: just a heads up, the swimming pool is a salt water pool] The second desk person I met there was a young woman who was very charming and engaging. We chatted and she had a very nice disposition. I had asked about extending my stay to a later check out. She told me to call the front desk in the morning of check out. I called and recognized her voice, she told me the hotel was fully booked and I couldn't have my late check out. Well, I was a little sad but then, that sadness turned into being upset when I logged into Orbitz Com and discovered there were rooms available when I was told it wasn't. I don't like liars. My trip wasn't horrible, I spent most of my time with friends and family. Finally, when I checked out, there were 4 people behind the front desk. I stood there for a minute. Finally, with no greeting, I was asked, "do you need help?" I looked at all four them and thought, no wonder this hotel is a slum. They don't have the right people working here. I hope by reading this you'll find something else on our beautiful island as better accommodations. If you're young and don't care - this is the place for you.

It has a huge yard right on the ocean with spectacular sunset views. People should be aware that pretty much all you're getting for your money is the location and scenery. The house has an old Hawaiian feel with large rooms and open architecture. It was built in 1964 and actually has a total of 10 bedrooms; however, there are only 6 bedrooms and 4 baths available for rental. The other bedrooms are either rented out separately, or the owner lives in them. Even though there is a large parking area, carport, and garage, there are only 4 spaces available when you rent the 6 bed, 4 bath part of the house. There is street parking available about 200 yds. away, but you have to walk on the shoulder of a very busy highway. The driveway entrance to the house is also on this same busy highway, so getting in and out is not easy. We were disappointed with the cleanliness and upkeep of the house. We had to wash the large sliding glass doors and several of the windows in prominent areas. Some of the screens in the bedrooms had large tears. There were several large mirrors in the dining room - one of which was cracked. There were not enough towels for all the guests - some bathrooms had no towels, and we had to supply our own. There was an odd collection of dishes and really not enough of them considering the number of people that could stay there. The dishwasher was not attached to the underside of the countertop, so every time we opened the door, the dishwasher would tilt forward, and dishes would spill out. We actually had to weed-wack a large area of the back lawn (right outside the back door where all the guests would be) where there were 12" tall grass weeds sticking up. The entrance to the house is a courtyard where there is a pool which is not very inviting since the bottom looks like it needs to be cleaned and refinished. Nobody wanted to go in the pool. Basically, this is an old island house that really needs some TLC. Also, be sure to read the rental pricing carefully. Paying $1,500/night to rent the place does not allow you to hold any events while you're there. There is an additional $3,000 fee if you want to hold an event. We were aware of that, so it wasn't a problem, but that extra cost should be considered if you're planning an event.

Even if I had a naked Ryan Gosling in my bed, I'd still choose sleep over sex because the bed and pillows are THAT comfortable. The Wi-Fi was fast and consistent, even during video-heavy Zoom calls, so you'll have no problems working remotely. The Ilikai Marina is a prime location with so much to do within walking distance like Magic Island, Ala Moana, and everything Waikiki has to offer. There's a Biki station right around the block, so I biked pretty much everywhere. On top of all this, Annie and Adrianne are incredibly responsive, friendly, and accommodating. I'd highly recommend booking with Annie, but hopefully not during MY travel dates because I want to rent with her when I'm in town, too!

We stayed at one of the units in the Ilikai, and Annie was absolutely awesome! The space was…read morecentrally located (right between Ala Moana and Waikiki) and had a huge balcony with lots of light and a gorgeous view. Additionally, we loved that there was a sliding door in the condo, that turned the apartment into a one bedroom when we wanted (but also allowed us to have open space when we wanted as well). Annie was super responsive and accommodating. From the booking process where she explained everything to going above and beyond such as leaving snacks in the kitchen, water in the fridge, and laundry detergent in the closet since we were staying longer term. These details made us feel really welcome and Annie also has the best suggestions on places to eat or things to do in the area. Grateful to work with Annie on this rental and will definitely be recommending to friends who come to Hawaii to visit!
