Stopped here after passing by the day before and to be honest I am not sure if I liked it or not. Maybe my expectation was too high due to my excitement of finally running into a Hawaiian restaurant. Part of me remains unimpressed

Cute note on delivery!

I ordered to-go from here and it was delicious. They had written a thank-you note on the package, which I thought was very cute and appreciative. (Support small local businesses! :) ) I ordered the salmon poke with pineapple and extra avocado. I thought that the portion size was alright, but a bit smaller I was expecting (especially with the salmon). Everything was delicious. The poke was good and had a good marinade, the seaweed salad was a nice addition, and the pineapple was a nice burst of flavor. Overall, not a bad spot for poke in Portland!

Hawaiian Express helped curb my craving for Hawaiian food that I didn't know I was missing! I stopped by Hawaiian Express because, honestly, I was very hungry after a long day of traveling...and they were the closest option I had from a place I was staying. There were options of various combos...from $8-$12. I had a locomoco (with a side of coleslaw) and boy...I was so glad I had it! I have been living at a place where Hawaiian is just so rare...so this definitely hit the spot for me. Overall, great, super casual place for express food. They don't have too many hawaiian options (for example, no mochiko chicken or saimin noodles!), but at least it was fast and the portion was decent! I would consider stopping by this place again for a quick, super casual, affordable meal!

I adore Hawaiian Express. The family meal is so worth it!! My favorite is the salmon poke. All the sides I ordered are fresh and delicious. Best comfort meal. Generous portions.

Lunch special: chicken teriyaki and double rice

This is my go-too spot here in SW Portland! It's really good, amazing service and reasonable prices! Their Loco Moco is also one of my favorites to get! Out of the food available in this area, I always prefer to go to Hawaiian Express than the food carts across the street.

I've seen negative reviews and was worries this place went down hill. Long story short it's been a bit since I've been here and thought things may have switched up. But it's still just as good and the main lady who I tend to see her is very nice and chill. I definitely would recommend this place especially is something it looking for this type of Hawaii food. Very happy and filling place. Thank you

Unlike many others, I read the reviews beforehand, but decided to give this place a try. Like many others, the (person) was friendly enough, the overall portion size was ok, but it was mostly plain white rice. I got the chicken with macaroni salad, the salad wasn't bad, the chicken was pretty blah. 2 good chunks of chicken, that looked grilled and slpiced, but I think it had been cooked a while ago and lost most of its flavor. I was hoping for better for the price, but I bet their rent isn't cheap. I would normally attribute this to covid, but it seems like people were making these same comments before covid.

Came by for a quick bite and got the Hawaiian Chicken. Folks at the restaurant were friendly, and the food came out quickly. Food was a-okay. They were generous with portions especially the seaweed salad. Overall, not too bad but not perhaps my go-to for all Hawaiian food needs.

And, as expected, the sausage McMuffin and iced coffee were made exactly the way they should have been. And the frozen Coke was very tasty. I was happy to see that the machine was working. I never have been by here during the day and it seems like this is pretty consistent. This is not a commentary about the houseless and just that it genuinely is a swarm. I go through here a lot due to delivery driving. Just the other night I had one guy who kept slamming his walker into the ground saying 'Can I ask you a question?' harassing me and trying to stand in front of my car while I was in the drive through. I was the only female, from what I could see, in the line. It is just a lot of anxiety as someone who grew up dealing throughout Portland with me and various friends getting attacked for zero reasons by people. If you do need to drop into this spot just be cautious and aware that there are usually people with signs and asking for money and food up against where you are placing your order in the drive through. The staff does try their best to keep it clear and to not have folks walking into the line of cars in the drive through but some nights it is very ridiculous. They have a walk up window which is usually pretty full so sometimes the folks in that will harass the drive through line.

On a Sunday at 11am, the line was already about 15 parties long. I ordered the Yolko Zeppelin, which comes with pesto, fried eggs, and sausage patties in sourdough. Took around 45 minutes from waiting in line and ordering to finally getting the sandwich, but wasn't in a rush so it was fine. The workers inside are super friendly and energetic! There's outdoor seating to sit down and eat at. They make the sandwiches fresh on the spot, so it came out toasty and warm. At first I was like, how good can an egg sandwich be? But I can see why there's hype. The sausage patties were crazy good, charred on the outside but tender and soft, super aromatic. A satisfactory pit stop in Portland!

It has been open for less than a year at their only Oregon location here at Hillsboro. On our last day in Portland, my wife, her mom, and I stopped in for fried chicken on our way to the airport. We were all jolly when we left. I've really come to appreciate the consistency of Jollibee's chicken fried chicken. Unlike some of their competitor's, where the chicken breading might be coming off because it has been sitting under a heat lamp too long, their chickenjoy breading is crispy and their meat juicy. All of us had already eaten breakfast at the hotel we had been staying at, so weren't particularly hungry. Thus, just got a 3 pc Cjoy combo meal ($18.49, no tax) with 3 pieces of spicy, dark meat chicken (2 drums, one thigh), a biscuit (fluffy and tasty), two sides (mash potatoes and fries) and fountain drink. It also comes with a cup of brown gravy, meant to be used as dip for the fried chicken. Brown gravy with fried chicken has become something I seek out now. The fries are very similar to McDonald's and the mashed potatoes to KFC. In both cases, that is a good thing. I got a pager and it went off about 10 minutes afterwards, so got up to bring the chicken back. They have a self serve soda fountain. It is expensive though for a fast food chain, with no value-type menu available yet. Fil-Ams are loyal to this chain, and seem to be OK with the slightly higher price. It will be interesting if they ever choose to expand, what they would do to draw in non-Filipinos.

So I tend to avoid super hyped places because the quality usually ends up lacking as the popularity…read moregrows...but I do love a good chicken sandwich, and we've been curious for a few years; so come Thursday night after a long shift, I decided to order takeout. With delivery and tip, our total was about $79...which seems steep, but realistically their "sliders" are about the size of a standard Popeyes chicken sandwich with a HUGE piece of chicken. We got 4 sandwiches, fries, mac and cheese and the five piece mozzarella "slabs" (they're not sticks lol), plus I ordered a large ranch and Dave's sauce (like a better version of Chic-Fil-A sauce) and a small hot honey and Reaper ranch...so price pretty standard for the amount of food. The food traveled well and these were literally the best chicken sandwiches we've had. Chicken was juicy and crispy and a dry season that was insanely good. Slaw was crunchy and pickles were tangy. I added hot honey and Dave's sauce to mine and they were amazing. Fries are standard crinkle cut, but well seasoned and crispy. Mac and cheese was good, pretty much the exact kind you'd want as a kid...gooey and Kraft like flavored but with shells and a little wetter. Mozzarella "sticks" were good, I got them in Mild and if anything they were seasoned with the same seasoning they use for the chicken and very good, but surprisingly a bit too salty for me...I'd probably stick to the sandwiches and the fries to be honest. OKAY, but for the HEAT LEVELS: I debated for a while on which to order because I'd say we have a decent spice tolerance...like habaneros are my favorite, but I find them spicy. Buldak ramen is hot as heck, but manageable. To be safe, I got us each a Mild and Medium the first time and we noticed very little variation between the two, and maaaaybe a small spice kick on the back end with the Medium. That being said, we both agreed we'd like a little extra spice next time and considering the jump between Mild and Medium was so minimal, we figured Hot or Extra Hot would be good for us. WE WERE SO WRONG. We ordered again on Sunday. Two Hot sandwiches and one Extra Hot to share...and I highly recommend ordering either of those if you enjoy pain, anguish, are looking to smell colors and taste sounds; because I'm pretty sure we both almost simply passed away. I used half a large container of Dave's sauce on my Hot sandwich as well as an ungodly amount of honey...and by the time the tears in my eyes cleared I realized my fiance was just walking laps through the house in between bites. The flavor is still there, but at what cost? About 20 minutes after eating we both resigned to carrying the fireball in our stomachs to lie down and wait to succumb to our choices, only to awake 4 hours later with hiccups and burps that would make a fire breathing dragon envious. Just be warned if you like spice, you won't find it in the Medium except for at a totally normal amount, if you love spice...you'll find it and then hate that you did at the Hot or above amount. Suffice to say, we'll be returning often...or ordering (whatever)...but we're sticking to Medium even if that makes us wimpy. And if you know someone who chooses Extra Hot or Reaper for enjoyment, you should not only fear them, but get a restraining order...because something ain't right if you can enjoy that. And if you're chaotic like us and STILL want to try a higher spice amount, do yourself a favor and just order a single tender first to try the different levels so you can enjoy your meal fully without being surprised at how one level can increase the spice by 1% and then the next somehow jumps it up 50%. I wish there was a way to get a Medium-Hot one, but I'd still rather take the less spicy, more flavor. Anyways, perfectly cooked chicken, fast service and I'd highly recommend!

Overall, I thought it was decent, but personally it didn't really stand out from some of the other hot chicken spots around. The chicken was crispy and juicy, fries were solid, and the heat level had a nice kick without overpowering everything. Good food overall, just not something that personally blew me away. What really stood out though was the customer service. Everyone was friendly, welcoming, and attentive. The restaurant was clean, the food came out quick, and the atmosphere had a fun energy to it. One thing my wife and daughter really enjoyed was the cheese sticks. That cheese pull was actually super satisfying and probably one of the highlights of the meal for us Definitely one of those moments you almost have to record before taking a bite. Would I come back? Probably if I was nearby and craving hot chicken, but for me it was more of a solid casual spot than a must-have destination. Still worth trying at least once if you haven't been before.
