The person at the register, an older gentleman, spent a considerable amount of time with a Japanese couple, purchasing items. He wrapped, taped, and carefully put items in a bag for them, and handed them their purchase. My turn, maybe it's because I'm in my tshirt and shorts, just a local ol' lady. He rings me up, tapes the plastic bag the item comes in off the shelf, and hands it to me. I didn't get asked if I needed a bag, as it is a gift I'm taking to Japan. I ask if he has a bag of sorts I can put that in? He asks, "such as?". I say, a small bag of sorts? He says, "well we have this brown paper bag, if you want?". Picks up a brown bag from behind the counter. I was done. I said no thanks. And walked away. Why such a difference in service? Maybe I needed to dress better, I'm not sure. I was a bit offended. Products are super cute, this was only my second time here.. I guess it'll be my last as well. So sad. By the way, my husband and I went to Kahala store yesterday, we bought something there. We thought the service was wonderful, the lady helping us was welcoming and helpful. Ala Moana, felt a bit discriminating.

I didn't think anything until she explained that the fresh, green, exclusive design is only available in a backpack, laptop sleeve, pencil case, and lunch bag... plus, it will only be shipped to Hawaii addresses with a minimum purchase of $200 to avoid shipping charges. Uhg... I pondered about what to get. Cece said the pencil case ($32) was on the small side. She went to the store and snapped a few photos with her hand for size comparison. Hmm... I decided on the lunch bag because it included a crossbody strap as well as a handle on the top. Cece stood in line for me and said that the salespeople were super kind and organized. She was first in line and got my bag for me. Later, I went when there was no line. The cozy shop was clean and bright and stocked well! Cashiers were smiling and helpful! This is the first booth (straight ahead) you'll come across when you enter the glass doors. I thought that this small business had a Yelp page already. Upon investigation, Aloha Imagination was not on the Yelp radar yet! I spoke with the owner, Karen, and she helped me get this page together! Karen is very enthusiastic and knowledgeable! She made great suggestions and even opened some packages of masks and arranged them on the counter for better photos! I always looked at the jewelry when I passed by her booth. I didn't notice the Hawaiian themed flasks, baby bibs, reusable tote bags, flower hair clips, and other useful souvenirs. I was drawn to the fabric face masks - especially the turtle prints. They're so cute! I got a large one and a medium one... after I wash them and try them on, I'll be back for more!

When I called that store however, they mentioned that they are opening a new one on Lewers Street that would carry more designs - they only had 2. So off to Waikiki I went. I knew I would be in and out, so I parked in the Bank of Hawaii building's underground garage - $3 every 30 minutes is steep for a long outing but fine for this shopping trip. You can get validation at the Long's in the same building, not sure if there's a minimum purchase requirement though. After waking one street over to Lewers, to the retail area called the Beach Walk, I looked in vain for the shop. Finally I called the Ala Moana store again, and they said the new store might not have a sign up yet because they just opened the day before. Sure enough, next to Taormina Sicilian Cuisine, in the space formerly occupied by the Ultimate Foot Store, was a signless store front with men and women's clothing. It's a small space, but packed with specialty brands you won't find at the usual tourist stores. The life is good selection was perfect, with men and women's shirts and hats in a variety of designs. Best of all, they had a 20% off sale just for the weekend - which the friendly clerk said is a rarity since the owners hardly ever discount their products. So happy to have found this store, and to score a great discount for my friend since she asked me to buy 5 of those shirts, which are regularly $29.99.

Being very familiar with this street and the side street such as Lewers, I initially had my heart set on coming back to my favorite Kahala store as I have been a follower and purchaser of their aloha shirts for over 30 years. Little did I know that my wife, never liked the majority of the patterns that I would select and was about ready to purchase one when she pleaded wit me to put the item on hold. Walking across the street we walked into the Elephant Walk gift store in which Quinn immediately greeted our family and told us that everything was 50% due to the Labor Day week. We were the only customers there and on our first visit my wife bought a pair of Oofos slippers which complimented what she normally wears. 1/2 off and they had small sizes to boot! When we came back a second time she convinced me to try on the Tori Richard Men's Aloha shirts in which there were limited sizes in Small and Medium. Not wanting to piss off the wife especially on vacation, I acquiesced and was surprised that because of the style type, I was able to fit a Small and Medium size. Once again, 1/2 off so we bought them. On our third and final visit, Quinn was not working that evening but my wife bought a 2nd pair of Oofos and my son bought a T.R. shirt and you guessed it - 1/2 off. Great hidden gem and 5 stars to Quinn for his customer service skills.

I love the soft colorful scarves. I found a couple cute dresses for my granddaughter. I am fixated on the bowls carved from local money wood trees. So, prices are higher because you're buying (for the most part) local. Parking is challenging. I walked.
