It makes sense though, Norway having access to such tasty fish that a poke place would open up. The staff at the Pacific Poke truck is super nice and makes up delicious poke bowls. I wouldn't call them traditional as far as Hawaiian standards, they definitely have a Norwegian spin. That being said they are quite excellent and addicting. My favorite is the Spicy taco one... Which isn't really a taco, but the combo of fish, tortilla chips, rice, spicy sauce etc is bomb! They have a punch card, so it's definitely a spot we will visit often, dare I say at least once a week or possibly more!

The next biggest food trend is here in Norway...poke bowls! Poke is the Hawaiian cousin of sashimi…read moreand has been gaining popularity in the US in the last several years. I personally am a poke fan way before it was fashionable. Poke bowl in Aker Brygge is perhaps the first to introduce poke to the Norwegian market. There were various style of poke using either salmon or tuna. Being a traditionalist, I chose the spicy shoyu tuna. The tuna was nice and firm. Rice was proper short grain rice used for sushi. The spicy shoyu sauce was quite flavorable and really carried the dish. The bowl also had a sour element using pickled onions and wakame salad. My only negative comments would be that the poke was not marinated in shoyu. This is what seperates Hawaiian poke from mainstream poke sold in the US. The fish should have taken in all of the shoyu flavor, but the shoyu rather was added after when serving. The other is price. For the amount I paid for my bowl, I would have expected more tuna and rice. Then again this is Oslo and food will cost you an arm and a leg! Other than that, Poke Bowl is a great addition to the food scene in Oslo and would recommend to anybody wanting to have an intro to Hawaiian delicacy.

The first Peruvian restaurant to open in Oslo, following a big international trend of this latino…read morekitchen. The expectations were high and they truely delivered. The interior is really nicely decorated and minimalistic. Wooden tables, retroish mustard colored comfy chairs, inka art on the wall and a long bar running through the entire place. They had eight dishes and two desserts to choose from. We ordered all to share. The first three were ceviche/tiradito. Very different and very tasty. Then we had a dish with octopus and one with monkfish. Both tasted good and had some interesting flavors. Next up was the highlight of the evening: Chicharron! Slow cooked fatty pork with puffed pork rind. Delicious! We had to order a second plate of this. Desserts were not enjoyed by everyone at the table, but I loved the "Inka chocolate". Chocolate cream, sorbet, "earth" and dehydrated mousse together with a lime curd. We also had a piece of meat that some at the table found chewy and bad. The biggest drawback with the place are the prices which I found slightly steep for some of the rather small servings. That could be the Oslo west location... Some awesome cocktails we had: pisco sour, yuzu my way, manzanita and peruvian nikkei. Go there, go llama!

Peruvian is the new chic, and Aymara is a good introduction to this gastronomic jewel of the world…read more Aymara serves a modern sampler of great peruvian classics, from the cold-and-refreshing (ceviche, tiradito) to the hot-and-earthy (papas, anticuchos). The restaurant has a limited menu with only three cold dishes, five hot dishes and two desserts, served tapas-style. Expect to order 3 small dishes per person and share them across the table. The good: - Chicharrón deserves a thesis on its own. The slow-cooked meat is super tender and oozes goodness out of each bite. The tangy red onions and puffed rinds complement the flavor and texture. - Inka Chocolate is a joy for lovers of deep rich chocolate, with a right burn of chili. - Cocktails are all lovely, go for either pisco sour for a classic or a pisco colada. The average: - Ceviche is rather average which is disappointing, because they could have been fabulous. Alas, the fish did not taste the freshest and lost amidst all the jazz. Some things like choclo (peruvian corn) add nothing except bragging rights of an exotic ingredient. - Tiradito has an interesting passion fruit flavor into the tuna. The smoked cod is okay though some parts (plantains, apple salsa) were a little bland. - Toro Asado is a little tough and is not made with the best cuts. The bad: - Vegetarians beware as only the Papas (peruvian potatoes) dish is vegetarian. The kitchen did prepare additional item, but clearly a vegetarian gets limited experience out of this restaurant. - Prices are too high, considering that you pay almost full-size dish for tapas-sized plates. Verdict: Best South American restaurant in Oslo, though you have to pay a little extra to get 4-star (out of 5) food. Remember the chicharrón!

Everything from Macrons, ice cream, pizza, dim sum, moose burgers, Hungarian fry breads, sushi, and you name it. There are several good restaurants around it as well. Super family and kid friendly. Some places have their own tables and there is a center area where the whole gang can find their feast and meet in the middle. Most of the food places close around 8 PM so maybe not a late night spot all though there a several places serving adult beverages after 8 PM. Most of the food court places do not serve alcohol so grab your pain killers from one place and food from another. If you are in Oslo, carve out a lunch or dinner time slot and figure out how to eat here and try a little something from several places. Most definitely eat here and have fun!!!!

It was easy to get to via the tram from our city centre hotel. There was already a small crowd inside as we navigated around. Italian, multiple burger joints, tapas were some of the busy spots that night. We decided on Helt Vilt with their wide selection of game meats from moose, reindeer, to boar to try some unique red meats. They also had a nice seating area that was available so we got the last table.. We ended up ordering the angry moose and wild boar burgers. The patties were a little over 5oz, juicy and lots of flavors from the meat and toppings. The angry moose burger also came with a nice kick mostly when biting down on the jalapeño slices. Both were filling but wouldn't have minded more meat considering these were each over US $20+. Service was just ok (maybe too busy) and we ended up walking to the front to close our tab.

We had to get there pretty early in the morning, so we missed the breakfast buffet back at the hotel. That meant we were feeling rather peckish after our extensive security check-in. In the middle of the international terminal was this kiosk. It was surrounded by quite a display case filled with crushed ice with a variety of ready-made seafood options. Jamie was relieved to see a poke bowl fit for a transplanted Californian, the 165 NOK ($15.40 US) Poke Bowl Med Laks, which featured a huge slab of fresh salmon on top of a bed of greens mixed with avocado, cucumber, mango, shredded carrot, leeks, and edamame with a soy dressing (photo: https://bit.ly/3T0U5tF). I must've had a flashback to Copenhagen because I was drawn to the open-faced sandwich for which the Danish are renowned, the 225 NOK ($21.25 US) Premium Rekesmorbrod, which piled a boatload of shrimp on a slice of rustic country bread with lettuce, cucumber slices, and half of a hard-boiled egg (photo: https://bit.ly/3SEa1BE). We did not have a reservation, but luckily they managed to fit us in at a shared table. This place is extremely popular so I would highly recommend making a reservation. To start, we ordered the cod croquettes to share. Perfectly fried and golden brown, these croquettes were absolutely delicious and the accompanying sauce paired perfectly. For our entrées, I ordered the fish and chips while my husband ordered the creamy fish soup and my father ordered the fish gratin. All three dishes were fresh and delicious, but I think the fish gratin was my favorite. So if you find yourself an Oslo looking for a delicious meal down by the water, come check out Fiskeriet.
