She is easy to talk to and discusses any changes you may have in mind. She will let you know if an idea, picture you have is something that will work with your hair. Have been going to her for several years and have been very satisfied. She listens to what you want and does not upcharge like so many in the area do. The owner is very nice to. All I can say is "He is an outstanding stylist. I had a color and cut. The cut is just what I needed and it turned out so nice. I have my hair colored red and he put on a gorgeous color. After over two years of searching, I've finally, FINALLY, found my hairstylist! And ~ he happens to be a guy. But not just any guy. He's Chris, THE Hair Guy, of Haven Salon. First, let me tell you about Haven Salon. It's located in the Double Diamond area in South Reno. The building they're in used to be a spa, so instead of a single open space for the stylists, each stylist have their own room, so appointments are more private, personal and intimate. Chris decorated his room bistro-style, complete with a small table and a couple of chairs that reminds me of having snacks al-fresco style. His walls feature an artwork by his wife and photos of their travels. He's window also faces Mount Rose, so the view from his chair is quite beautiful. Chris was highly recommended by a friend, who mentioned he was running a first-time customer special ($15 discount). And since my prior experiences with other stylists have been ok at best, I thought, 'why not?' Setting up the appointment with him was a breeze. He uses an app that you can use to confirm, modify and see other openings in his appointment book. Very high-tech and so convenient. His haircut appointments usually run for about an hour, but he sets aside an hour and a half for first-time clients because he want to take the time to get to know the client and how to meet the client's hair needs. From the moment I met Chris, I took to him immediately. He exudes energy, joy and warmth. And when he started talking about hair, not only is he super professional, this (hair) guy knows his stuff! He studied in the Vidal Sassoon organization, and was one of the pioneers of the Paul Mitchell academy. He was an instructor at the PM academy for over 10 years, and has just recently came back to cutting hair again. Lucky me! After he welcome me to his 'bistro', he asked me to fill out a short form (whaaat?, in a hair salon?!) But it makes total sense. The form is mainly for record keeping, but it also asks what I want to have done, what do I and don't I like about my hair now, and what do I want most to have in my hair. I know we are asked about this every time we see a new stylist, but this is the first time I see someone actually have these things written down. Chris then took a photo of me, and load it to this app that captures facial shape. Once my facial shape was determined, it then recommended the hairstyles that work BEST with my shape. Surprise, surprise, it's the haircut that I want, so boom! But my favorite part of all, when he finally sat me down and talked to me about the style that I was kinda HOPING to have, he said the magic words: 'May I make a suggestion?' And I was like ~ YES, PLEASE! I can't tell you how many times I've asked stylists what they thought I should do with my hair and they stared at me blankly and sort of lost. Not Chris. He was confident. He knew exactly what I wanted and how to make it happen. After shampooing my hair and giving me a quick hair massage, Chris went to work. Usually, I don't like to chat too much with my stylist because I want them to focus on my hair. You see, I have short hair and any imperfection (read, mishap) can be very obvious and there's nothing I could do but just wait for it to grow out and hope that the next cut will be better. But Chris and I chatted, and I'm glad we did. I got to know him a little bit and what he's about, and I have to say, I'm kinda digging him as a person. We share a common love for travel, for simplifying life and letting go of STUFF, and compassion for people less fortunate than we are. He's funny, he's honest, and he's open. And as for the haircut ~ well, I just wanna say, he nailed it! I am super impressed. He was just cutting and gabbing away (at one point, I offered a 'suggestion' that he can use the clipper if he wants, and he refused because it's the same as using a machine vs. hand-made), and the next thing I know ~ voila! The best haircut I've had in YEARS. It looks modern, it's clean, it has shape, and best of all ~ it's easy-breezy maintenance! I'm very happy with it, and I'm very happy to have met Chris. He did a GREAT job. So ~ if you're looking for a new stylist, or if you're just 'meh' with your current one, I highly recommend Chris, the Hair Guy. I have been looking for a hair stylist who knows about natural curly hair. Someone told me that Haven had somebody. After working across the way for 6 months finally got the nerve up to go. I was referred to Lisa Maxim, and I am so glad I was. She is absolutely amazing. She took my dull frizzy head of hair and turned it into the most beautiful work of art I have ever seen. She took my vision and made it her own and with her expertise she tamed my curls and made them come to life. I will definitely go back to her. I wish I could giver her more than 5 stars. read more

I have seen two stylists at the salon, both were great colorists and stylists. Raquel Breen has become my regular stylist since January 2019. Raquel has hours in the evenings and often on Sundays. She uses "Surface" products which are natural and good for people with sensitive scalps. I receive compliments about me hair frequently plus my hair is silky and no longer dry. She listens to my description of desired color, cut and style then delivers what I want. Raquel is also a great conversationalist so my appointments are fun. Haven is one of the most beautiful, comfortable and serene salons I've ever been in. The stylists and other services each have their own rooms, so you are not sitting in one large room with 10 people chatting away about their Aunt Lucy's gall bladder operation! Right, you've been in that salon, too? My husband and I both get our hair styled by Michon, and he is also very comfortable at the salon, which I think is amazing. I haven't had time yet to try some of the other services, but facials and massages in such a calm, private setting are definitely on my list. I have hunted for a salon on yelp since I haven't been in one since I was a teen and I'm so glad I chose this one. It's absolutely beautiful inside and very well-kept. Once I went inside, I just instantly knew that the quality of services had to be just as amazing as its interior design. My appointment was with kristyn Johnson and she sounded very confident with hair and knowledgable about the products she used. My hair was uneven, dry and not flowy; however, with just a couple of snips here and there, good styling from Kristyn, I'm happy to say that my hair feels absolutely amazing. I drove by Haven Salon for three years on my way to work every day and finally checked out their website a few weeks ago. After going through their stylists' biographies and reading Yelp reviews, I decided to text Chris to request an appointment and I am so glad I did! I have been to ten different salons since moving back to Reno three years ago and have not been satisfied with any outcome. But, Chris changed all of that. He touched my hair, assessed the texture and length, looked at my face shape, asked me a few questions, had his lovely and talented shampoo assistant (and wife Dani!) wash my hair, and then he began to reshape my droopy, heavy locks. Chris is charming, very interesting and an extremely experienced artist. He has worked with Vidal Sassoon and Paul Mitchell and has taught many stylists their craft. I watched him work like a magical maestro, waving his scissors over my hair in precise snips; lifting, measuring, and making sure the two sides matched. He showed me how to put volumizing product in my hair to achieve the desired look and finish it with setting spray. I looked AMAZING! Its been three days since my cut and style and my hair still looks great although I do need to stop by and pick up some of that styling product. I would highly recommend this salon and stylist, Trina Peckenham. The space is beautiful and clean, a very nice ambiance. I went in for warm blond highlights on my medium-length hair. Trina was so thorough about finding out exactly what I wanted. She took the time to ask questions and look at pictures to make sure we were both "on the same page" about what I was looking for. Trina was so friendly and made me feel very comfortable during the entire experience. By the time my hair was finished, her skill and expertise was obvious...my hair turned out perfectly!
