Best comic shop around the Huntsville/Madison area. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Prices are on par with the market.

The Deep (at their previous location) was my weekly comic shop when I lived in Huntsville 20 years…read moreago (groan). We were in town for a concert and to meet up with some friends and it happened to be "Free Comic Book Day" and we had time to kill, so we stopped at some local shops including the Deep at their new location. They had all the goodies for giveaways-- who can beat 3 free comics plus another 5 freebies if you make a purchase? The companies (Marvel, DC, and the indies) made a good show of rolling out freebies to give readers a sample of current offerings and hopefully they roped in some new readers. It was nice to see The Deep still has a swath of back issues, I was able to cross several titles off my never-ending search list as I poked around the store. They still have a wall of new releases, a ton of games and figures, etc. It was also very cool to see such a wide diversity of readership, people of all ages and backgrounds grabbing up new releases and picking up pull lists. Not sure if ownership has changed in the past decade or more or if it's more to do with the changing vibes of the subculture itself becoming more mainstream and accessible, but it just felt overall more "welcoming" and open than ever before so that anyone can find the book they're looking for and get into comics. Very cool. Plenty of parking. Appreciated the additional 20% off of purchases for the comic book day, and back issue prices are fair--more expensive than some, far cheaper than others.

Religious books and DVDs and CDs. They want you to buy a tote for 1$ at checkout which I declined. They don't have bags so if you go bring your own Two bins were marked free; however I didn't look in them. I didn't rate them higher because of the mixture of quality meaning brand new is moved in with used whereas I'm used to booklegger where everything is 50 % off the list price and a better value. Also I think they should have bags for your purchases. It's a big sntorr and it's not arranged to quickly find what you want. Plan to roam around. Picked up some things for mom and the grands. Probably won't go back.

NOT, I repeat, NOT worth your gas money in an attempt to sell OR get store 'credit' for your books…read more I had read that they only give $.50 on the dollar. I went up on Amazon, found the USED price for each book, cut that in half...and, took $120 worth of books in for sale. Their OFFER was $4 cash and about $6 in-store credit. If you have the time and energy, go up on E-Bay and find your same books that have SOLD, and deduct them off on your taxes. E-Bay is considered FMV for your items. Otherwise, take them to your local library (Friends of the Library Store - a 501(c)3 or Thrift Store. The worst practice of this store is that they make you an offer...and, if you don't respond in 24hrs, it goes to in-store credit. Laughable if you're selling -just another gimmick to KEEP your books for their own profit. Even if you accepted their offer, you have to come IN-PERSON as the e-mail/text does NOT contain the offer. Again, a gimmick to KEEP your books for THEIR profit.

When I got there, there wasn't really anyone to tell me about what was going on or where to sit or do, so I had to figure it out. There is a good and beverage place inside, but I had just eaten dinner, so I can't say anything about the service or the quality of the food. At first, I guess I sat in the wrong spot as a female employee rudely asked if I noticed the seating was reserved and that it was only for employees. With no one to greet me and it being my first time there, I, of course, did not know, and all I was focused on was getting my paint and a seat and painting my little cat. When I left, no one had taken my seat, so I'm sure it would have been fine for me to continue where I had started. The paint choices were great, although they seemed to be missing pink and basics like plain white and black (or they were hard to find). The cost was great for what they offered, and where I ended up sitting was good for painting. I appreciated the fact that they provided slim paintbrushes as the models were maybe 2 inches tall by 1 inch wide. I might go back, but rude employees do leave a bad taste in my mouth for places, so we will see.
