We were in town for a concert and to meet up with some friends and it happened to be "Free Comic Book Day" and we had time to kill, so we stopped at some local shops including the Deep at their new location. They had all the goodies for giveaways-- who can beat 3 free comics plus another 5 freebies if you make a purchase? The companies (Marvel, DC, and the indies) made a good show of rolling out freebies to give readers a sample of current offerings and hopefully they roped in some new readers. It was nice to see The Deep still has a swath of back issues, I was able to cross several titles off my never-ending search list as I poked around the store. They still have a wall of new releases, a ton of games and figures, etc. It was also very cool to see such a wide diversity of readership, people of all ages and backgrounds grabbing up new releases and picking up pull lists. Not sure if ownership has changed in the past decade or more or if it's more to do with the changing vibes of the subculture itself becoming more mainstream and accessible, but it just felt overall more "welcoming" and open than ever before so that anyone can find the book they're looking for and get into comics. Very cool. Plenty of parking. Appreciated the additional 20% off of purchases for the comic book day, and back issue prices are fair--more expensive than some, far cheaper than others.

Small town gaming store looking for a gamestop 'Punch Out'…read more Really happy that we ran in here for a couple minutes to check these guys out. First thing to say about this place .... way to flip one of the major gamestop complaints into a model for how to run your business. Customer service!! These guys engage with you as soon as you come in the door. They are super friendly and offer to help in any way possible. They thank you for coming in and genuinely seem to appreciate the fact that you took time out of your day to shop with them. Well done! The selection is pretty good too! They have stuff dating back for just about any console you can think of. So if you're looking for that N64 gem or want a classic Atari 2600 .... there's a good chance they have it. They also have latest gen stuff, so whether you're retro or new age gaming, these guys can get you hooked up. Wish there was one closer to home, but I'll be coming back in here next time I'm in the area.

Cases are cracked and manuals are torn up. There is also loose unpriced merchandise scattered around that looks like it might be for sale, but no sure way to tell if it is supposed to just be decor. There is also what appears to be a bullet hole in the door, and a broken shelf in the middle of the store wrapped in caution tape. I would say these are just temporary new issues that will soon be fixed, but they were the exact same when I stopped in this store over 3 years ago.

There is no way they make money, but where else can you go play an arcade...in this town? This is here because the owner loves games and wants to preserve history. It's locally owned so if you want the more sanitized, corporate stores, there are plenty, but this place can do what it wants, and if you like trading around, that's a wonderful thing. The few cabinets that did work, were flawed. The selection of games were limited, there were three shooter games, only two worked, majority of the games were clunky cabinets with sticky buttons, or stiff joysticks. The racing cabinets had bad steering wheels, where the slightest movement would throw you off track, or have you not move at all. I would not get the full day tier for ten dollars unless you genuinely believe that you could get more than three hours there. I personally barely got an hours worth of gameplay.
