The Deep (at their previous location) was my weekly comic shop when I lived in Huntsville 20 years…read moreago (groan). We were in town for a concert and to meet up with some friends and it happened to be "Free Comic Book Day" and we had time to kill, so we stopped at some local shops including the Deep at their new location. They had all the goodies for giveaways-- who can beat 3 free comics plus another 5 freebies if you make a purchase? The companies (Marvel, DC, and the indies) made a good show of rolling out freebies to give readers a sample of current offerings and hopefully they roped in some new readers. It was nice to see The Deep still has a swath of back issues, I was able to cross several titles off my never-ending search list as I poked around the store. They still have a wall of new releases, a ton of games and figures, etc. It was also very cool to see such a wide diversity of readership, people of all ages and backgrounds grabbing up new releases and picking up pull lists. Not sure if ownership has changed in the past decade or more or if it's more to do with the changing vibes of the subculture itself becoming more mainstream and accessible, but it just felt overall more "welcoming" and open than ever before so that anyone can find the book they're looking for and get into comics. Very cool. Plenty of parking. Appreciated the additional 20% off of purchases for the comic book day, and back issue prices are fair--more expensive than some, far cheaper than others.

I love this place, and always will. Been a customer for 20 years. As a tabletop gamer, they have…read moreevery that I need. D&D, board games, Warhammer, TCG's, etc. Their comic selection is outstanding. Just a generally great place to shop. They also have gaming to join, upstairs.

Love the new, bigger space. I'm not vegetarian, but I love the food. The burgers are awesome. I'm…read morepartial to Bob's Burger Bites as I am usually playing board games when I'm there. For a while, I was eating there twice a week due to board game night and D&D night and I never got tired of the food. Any of the pizza themed options are great, and I love the Baseball Bat (PB&J panini). My kiddo loves the pretzel sticks. Aside from the food, they have a great selection of D&D stuff and TCGs. I huge selection of miniatures and Citadel paint. Warhammer stuff too, and some board games and other nerdy stuff like dice, jewelry, candles, etc. They have a growing selection of board games to play for free while you're there. And a large calendar of different events. I'm partial to board game nights on the first and third Mondays each month, but I also want to try some of the D&D one-shots. I'm also looking forward to Daggerheart events once that is out. Aside from the great selection of merchandise, they all seem to be really great people. I love spending time there. Great place!

I came by here a couple weeks ago looking for a late, light lunch and some coffee for the drive…read morehome after work around Decatur. I love all nerdy things and had pinned Current on my to-try collection a while back. It's a little easy to miss driving around, but my GPS got me there. Parking is pretty limited -- the business next door had to ask some people to move because they'd created a spot behind the worker's truck, lol -- but I had a lovely experience once I found my way inside! They have a pretty large menu for a game cafe, and much of it is vegan or vegetarian. Pressed sandwiches, burgers, baked goodies, smoothies, all kinds of coffee drinks, and salads/wraps. I wanted something warm, light, and comforting. As simple as it may be, I was thrilled to find a pressed PB&J on the menu for a low price. I was offered my selection of a surprisingly large number of jellies (strawberry for me!) and my sandwich came out quickly. I had both a sweet tea and a latte -- hydration and stimulation! Lol. The food was good, and my mint mocha latte tasted just like an Andes mint. My favorite part of this place, though, is the vibe! Nerdy and inclusive. Wish all places could be like that. :) Fun merchandise from all kinds of anime, shows, games, movies, etc; board games; a tidy all-gender restroom; Pride flags of different flavors everywhere...it really did feel like a pocket of welcomeness. I don't see enough spaces like that in the southeast, sadly, and so it's extra nice when you do come across it. There were lots of teens and folks wearing alternative style hanging around in cozy couches and tables playing games and I just love to see it! While the game and card selection isn't /massive/, it's perfectly satisfying (remember -- not a ton of space in the building) and the staff was more than willing to help with people's questions. This is a wonderful space to hang out, make new friends (if games/anime/nerd culture is your scene), and grab a bite to eat. Give it a go if it sounds like your speed!
