We started with Timmy's BBQ shrimp ...IT'S BEYOND DELISH! We shared it and I wanted my own.... served with bread that you dip and dunk in the sauce. wow... Hubby got the gazpacho, so light and fresh. Had a fantastic experience when we went for dinner with some guests visiting in town. We took our 2 young kids and they staff were friendly and very accommodating. COVID-19 review - August 2020 I met a friend for brunch at Haven on a Sunday morning. We arrived at 10:45am, shortly after they opened at 10:30am. We were seated promptly and attended to without delay. My friend ordered the salad. I had the French toast and OJ. The French toast was an awesome treat. The brownie looked too good to pass up so I had that as well. I would get it again but have it deconstructed because it was too much for one sitting. I felt comfortable sitting outside. All employees had masks and there was travel sized / individual hand sanitizer at each table. Tables have good spacing between them and menus are single use paper and deposed of as tables are cleared. Guests are not required to have on masks because it's a restaurant but I walked in with my mask and kept in on until our drinks arrived. My only critique is that all of their breakfast meats are pork. It would be nice to have a non-pork sausage or bacon option but that's not a deal breaker for me as I don't mind skipping the meat. This is only my third time eating out since things shut down in March 2020. I'm only comfortable eating outside in places that are trying to keep things safe. Haven is clearly taking a thoughtful approach so I plan to go back. read more

I was hoping for a better experience at Haven, but was let down by the food. It was disappointing because I like Haven's sister restaurant Valenza. Service was excellent and the staff, including manager Scott Spilberg and executive chef and partner Stephen Herman, was nice. However, the food wasn't as good as I was expecting from an "upscale neighborhood eatery" that's garnered mostly positive reviews. Maybe we just went on a bad night. Haven has been around since 2003. Chef Stephen has been with the restaurant the entire time. The restaurant is located in the Brookhaven Village mixed-use development in the same building as Valenza and Vero Pizzeria, another sister restaurant. Valet parking is available behind the restaurant. You can street-park for free, though some of the spots on Dresden have a time limit. You can also park for free in Brookhaven Village's often busy parking lot across the street. Haven is a nice restaurant with an older crowd. Open only for dinner and Sunday brunch, at night, the restaurant is dimly lit and romantic. It's a great date spot. The interior is classy with white tablecloths, a tall wine "library," artwork, and rustic finishes. There's a bar with TVs and a whimsical, fenced-in, umbrella-covered patio that's beautifully decorated in string lights and enclosed by various plants and trees. The large potted plant next to our table had an interesting-looking swan squash in it. Haven is on OpenTable so book your reservation for free using OpenTable and earn dining points that can be used towards future discounts at select OpenTable restaurants. At dinner, the restaurant serves New American cuisine with Southern influences, modern takes on Southern food, and steaks (most 30-day dry-aged). The menu is seasonal with price ranges for salads and small plates $6-15 each, entrees $18-38 each, sides $7 each, and steaks $51 and up each. There's a little bit of everything from seafood (e.g. crispy Gulf oysters, Blue Hill Bay mussels; $13 per order) to grilled Heritage pork chop ($29). Drink-wise, they offer over 30 red wines and 20 white wines, a large percentage of which are higher quality reserve wines. Most non-reserve wines are available by the glass ($9-28). Bottles run $22-280 each and all but one of the reserve wines are available by the bottle only. They have a half-dozen cocktails and several beers too. First, the good -- the truffled potato hay and the Angus beef tenderloin were fantastic. The potato hay is a terrific shareable appetizer. It's basically a stack of long, airy, crispy, stringy French fries that are piled high. It resembles a pile of hay. Along with truffle flavor, the potatoes are salted and topped with a bit of Parmesan cheese. It's addictive. The beef tenderloin was ordered medium rare and it came out cooked just right. The tenderloin was covered in a creamy and buttery Bearnaise that was delicious. The meat was thick, tender, and flavorful. The potato gratin was wonderful as well. It was nicely layered and, as we learned from chef Stephen, cooked with squash. During the colder season, they cook it with sweet potato; just a small twist they add to this classic dish. While the meat and potatoes were excellent, the spinach was simply too salty. I thought the roasted salmon was OK. Cooked salmon entrees rarely stand out to me and this one was no exception. The ingredients were fresh and the salmon tasted fine, but the entree was unmemorable. I did enjoy the light couscous and vegetable salad. This was a relatively healthy plate. Now, the bad -- I ordered the duck cooked medium and it came out overcooked. The duck was served sliced into several pieces (boneless) and there was hardly a hint of pink on the meat. Chef Stephen stopped by our table after dinner and admitted they'd messed up my duck. If he knew it was overcooked, then why did he send it out? He said we should have said something. We did, but at that point, it was too late. Stephen is a nice guy and was polite about the mishap, but I think it could've been handled better. As for the steak tartare, it was underwhelming. There seemed to be inconsistency in the flavors. Some bites were tasty while others were unappetizing and off-putting. I'm not sure if it was the quality of the meat or the way it was prepared. On a corner off Dresden, Haven Restaurant sits in the middle of the Brookhaven action. From their impeccable staff, to the fresh linens, well-priced offerings, and the warm ambiance, everything about Haven is inviting and welcoming. Their chef, Joe Macy, said that he wants his menu to reflect, "food that people could share and be social with, like their deviled eggs and brussels sprouts." That's how Haven feels, like a place you take your friends, your family, and share a meal. Come on in. Let's share a meal together. Cue the excitement, because we found them. We found our favorite deviled eggs in Atlanta to date! There are two reasons these deviled eggs stand out, first is the crumbled barbecue chips that give them a crunch and salt. Yes, crumbled BBQ chips! The second and thing that did it for us on top of that were the mustard seeds. They gave it a richer flavor and a pop at the end! It was like eating fish roe, which was his original idea, but with the added zing. Beyond that the filling was just egg, mayonnaise, lemon, tobacco, and Worcestershire for added zip and color. I (Liz) at them all, so now we must go back so John can get one. Darn. We didn't realize how egg-centric our brunch was until we ordered our entrees: Avocado Toast, Sunday Hash, and Steak and Eggs. Egg-celent! Puns aside, we really enjoyed each dish for an entirely different reason. Let's start with the Avocado Toast. This healthy option may look healthy, but don't think for a minute it is low on taste. Layered bread, guacamole, hard boiled eggs, and tomatoes, it was a good balance of creamy, crunch, and savory. The guacamole was creamy, bread had a good crunch to it, while the eggs were savory, and the tomato gave it acidity and balance. It also came it an arugula salad. It was slightly salty and peppery, so it made an amazing topping for the toast. Yes, we'd recommend putting it on your toast. It's gives it a WOW factor! If you're looking for something savory and hearty, go with the Sunday Hash. From the potatoes to soak up all the flavors, sweet peppers and onions, savory short rib, and topped with a runny egg, there's a lot of flavor in this dish. The savory short rib was tender with a slight char and all that good au jus from it seeped into the potatoes and vegetables and gave it a richer flavor. Then, the sweet peppers and onions gave it a balance. It was something you could sit by a roaring fire with and a good cup of coffee. If you get this, try getting all the ingredients on your fork in one bite for the best bite possible. OMG. Worth it! As far as the steak and eggs, it was John's choice and the steak was tender and well-seasoned. It came with potatoes and eggs and was a good breakfast staple that anyone could enjoy. Especially steak connoisseurs like us! What is a brunch without something to sip on? We're always down for a mimosa, and we loved the size and balance of juice and champagne on this one! It was just right. We also tried the Brookhaven Botanical, which was cucumber vodka, mint, grapefruit (citrus) that rounds it out. When you first sip it, it's cool and refreshing from the mint and cucumber flavor of the vodka, then has a little sweet from the fruit to balance it out. A good sipping drink! We ended our time chatting with Chef Joe Macy for quite a while about all the above food, beer, and everything in between, we felt like he really cares about his food and his customers. When I think 5 star this is the type experience that comes to mind. Work week evening, we did have a reservation, good idea as it appeared to be full. As some mention the parking can be an issue. You can find Haven in the heart of Brookhaven's latest community development, Brookhaven Village. The restaurant is on the end of the building at the intersection of Dresden and Apallachee Dr that also finds the very good Valenza as home. Parking is behind the buildings with complimentary valet or on the streets between the buildings. This is a hit local restaurant with a great vibe and well manned bar, featuring Southern influenced dishes in an upscale setting. I got there a bit early and waited for my buddy and his SO to arrive via Uber from the hotel where he was staying, a bit further intown. Look for "HAVEN" hanging from the eaves in Red san-serif font. The restaurant as indicated is at the end of a long row of attached brick buildings - there's an outdoor patio and for a late Sunday afternoon the place was already picking up with many taken tables. I sat at the bar and enjoyed a really exceptional bloody mary (I ordered it extra spicy and the bartender did indeed attend to my needs!). I could see myself hitting Haven in the evenings and just enjoying the energetic atmosphere and clean interior finishes while sipping on something cool and refreshing. But I digress... We asked to be seated on the very nice patio and were seated immediately. The temperatures weren't yet too hot or muggy to enjoy the late afternoon's breeze through an obscuring fence and vegetation. We were given a nightly menu indicating the chef as Stephen Herman - I don't know him personally but approve wholeheartedly of the eclectic menu - I also almost went for the Sunday special, a Skillet-Fried Springer Mountain Chicken with Mushroom gravy, whipped potatoes, braised greens, mac-n-cheese and buttermilk biscuit for $22. The regular menu is read landscape style with three columns - the first had small plates & salads; the center featured Haven's beef selection (with 30 Day Dry Aged KC Strip, Cowboy Ribeye and Porterhouse along with a Bone in Filet; plus an assortment of sides and sauces. Finally the third column detailed 10 signature dishes. I decided to go with the Roasted Georges Bank Scallops on Butter Bean Hummus, Grilled Oyster Mushrooms, Asparagus, Green Garlic Chimichurri and Crispy Ham. The scallops were perfect and super tender with just the right amount of caramelization on the top and bottom to seal in all the flavor and juiciness you would expect in sea scallops. The hummus was interesting and served a rather neutral base for the smoky oyster mushrooms. In all I loved this dish - it had an amazing balance of starch, fat and acid. It also was light enough that I didn't feel bloated at the end of the meal. My dining companions ordered the Roasted Scottish Salmon (Pine Nut Couscous, Feta, Kalamata Olives, Cucumbers and Cherry Tomatoes - which I found more of a Greek or Mediterranean dish - it was delicious non-the-less) and a Roasted Local Beet salad (Strawberries, radish, kale, arugula, Caly Road Waypoint, pistachio and saba - which looked delicious and very substantial). In all the staff was very attentive and the food excellent. I can see more of Haven in my future and it's certainly in a great location if you're meeting someone between midtown and the Perimeter. Another visit to one of my old favorite haunts in Brookhaven yesterday!! I'm digging being back in the neighborhood, temporarily! NPWH as always and it was good to see both familiar and new faces. J had not been to Haven in even longer than I had when I last went with Paige N., and it just sounded like a nice change for our Sunday brunch. Indeed it was. I was craving a good bloody mary - done! He wanted a screwdriver - done! And we went for something we have never ordered together, and an unusual choice for us - the steak and eggs. Done! It was quite a nice dish and we got a side of biscuits for him (for some reason the man needs a bread product with jam when he has a meat product at breakfast - I cannot explain it...). The food was great though we did think that for the price ($16) the serving of CAB was a little small. Still, it was in fact enough for us to share. Will return soon, for sure. read more

I've visited Haven a few times now and never had a bad experience. It's a bit strange that it's right next Valenza as I feel like their menus aren't that different and they have the same owner. Even the bathrooms are shared. Regardless, I like this restaurant; the atmosphere is lovely and the service is great. I wish they were more experimental with their bar as they don't even have a cocktail menu. Last time I came here, I ordered a manhattan which came out decent. For an app, I tried mussels which had a nice flavor. My Main dish was rabbit with a side of farro. Loved this dish. It's hard for find rabbit as is and especially a dish that is well executed. Wonderful dinner! We came here for an anniversary dinner and were treated super well. Our waiter was very attentive and nice, he seemed to know the menu inside and out. We started with the truffled potato hay stack which was HUGE. It's essentially a massive pile of salty, thin potato straws. So worth getting and could have served 4 people. They also Bring out a nice selection of bread from Alon's Bakery. For dinner, we ordered the trout which was done well and the fish special which I think was a tile fish. Both entrees were delicious and cooked to perfection. Our waiter was super sweet and brought us out a special dessert on the house for our celebration. It was a very nice touch and much appreciated. This is a great place for a date night - lots of wine options but they were out of many of their beers. read more
