Wife and I went on a date here Sunday night. The food was extremely slow to get to us. The manager was nice and apologetic but it seems like priority was given to larger tables. Wife had the shrimp and grits which was awesome! I had the crab cakes which were under cooked. If you are from the east coast, especially Maryland, you will be disappointed. This has been a nice relaxing meal. The food is fabulous. They say they shift things out regularly on the menu depending on what fresh. The appetizers all the way through the dessert was great! We sat on the porch and enjoyed people watching, talking, and the wonderful weather. They serve wine and drafts and bottled beers. We had wait staff checking on us a lot. We have gotten take out twice from here now. The crab dip is amazing and that's why this restaurant gets at least two stars. However, the "volcano" shrimp is just fried shrimp and has no heat to it. The cola steak tips are dry and the sautéed green beans with them were bland, my second time entree was a basic fried shrimp which I assumed they couldn't possibly screw up... but the shrimp breading was limp and the shrimp themselves weren't properly cleaned. Typical overpriced beach restaurant. Service was slow when we arrived but then rushed as it neared closing time. I ordered crab stuffed salmon but the salmon was not stuffed at all and there was not enough crab cake on the plate to even stuff the piece of salmon if they had wanted to do it correctly. I brought this to the attention of someone I assume to be a manager and he just made excuses, if he would have just apologized for the mistake I would have let it be but he had to make excuses. The whole dish was incorrect from the way it was described on the menu I will not be returning. If you can't listen to your customers and own up to your mistakes you aren't going to make it very long. read more

My steak tasted like it was 5 months old and completely impossible to chew. No seasoning and it looked like they boiled it. TERRIBLE. French onion soup- bad. Steak- bad. Waiter- bad. Went here for dinner. First time visit. There was a wedding/reception happening and it was extremely loud outside and inside. We were seated upstairs away from the wedding which helped with the noise. Service was good and friendly. We got the bowl of clam chowder, crab cakes over risotto, and the shrimp and grits. The clam chowder bowl was a large enough portion for a meal. It was reasonably priced and had great flavor. It was slightly on the spicy side (which I loved) but I think most might find it a bit too spicy. Crab cakes were good sized portions and the risotto was tasty. The shrimp and grits was delicious. It was served over a lobster grit cake that was fabulous. If you are looking for a slightly nicer place to dine in Carolina Beach then give this place a try! read more

Our meal was fabulous!!!!! We have an annual girls beach weekend in carolina beach for the last 27 years and we have dined at havanas several times. Service was nice enough. Food was really really bad. Maybe they changed their menu? I know they used to have shrimp and grits...brunch menu was really really limited, basically omelets or eggs with some sort of Mexican twist. On August 12, our family had a small wedding reception upstairs. Christine and Taylor were our servers and they were just amazing! They were very attentive and didn't miss a thing. We got seated as soon as we entered, and where we wanted to sit. Im giving four stars because its really expensive. But it was very tasty.

This place is just OK. The calamari was delicious... the rest of the food was ok. My daughter got the corn dog kids meal. The cornbread coating was a bit under cooked, causing her to only eat the hot dog. I got the crispy chicken sandwich and onion rings. The onion rings were the worst part of the meal... the batter was thick with a pancake-like coating... the chicken had good flavor but the crispy parts fell off causing the sandwich to fall apart. Overall, nice atmosphere and friendly service, but the food is average. read more

Food was great! Super yummy and good portions. Our waiter was a little odd. He would walk near our table and just kind of stare at us from a few feet away but never come close enough to where it would be normal to engage. Our server was nice and there was no wait for lunch. None of our food was very thoughtfully prepared (average taste/presentation) but it did come out quickly. All three of our drink orders were wrong but our server graciously replaced them with the correct order right away. Havana's is a good seafood restaurant in Carolina Beach. This is the 3rd time we've been here while on vacation. They usually have a great fresh catch, which is good not great and very expensive for what you get. It's clean and has a nice vibe. Beer selection is minimal, but you can find something. Only Dos on tap. Kids meals are $9, so bring your savings account with you...2 adult meals, 2 kids meals, 1 app and 2 beers = $120 including tax and tip. We'll probably try again as I do want to like it, but need to go save up for another visit. read more

We were pleasantly surprised. My family and I ate here during January (off-season) and were very pleased with the quality of food. My 7 year loved the tenders and fries, and my 13 year loved the grilled cheese and fries. My wife and I split a Volcano Shrimp appetizer and it was really good. I ordered the Fatty Daddy's Lump Crab Cakes, these were just OK. It was served on top of humus and spinach which was really tasty, I didn't expect to like it. My wife had the Cuban sandwich and it was great. The pulled pork had a nice smokey flavor and the overall sandwich was really worth making the trip for. In fairness, they said they do not smoke their own pulled pork but have it done by someone in Wilmington. Whoever smoked this pulled pork did a great job. The really only downer was the awful music, it was extremely depressing. read more

Everyone told us this was THE place to go. The store front was nice looking. We had a group of 7. The restaurant was not overly busy. The squeezed 7 of us into a table for 6. Waiter service was slow. Of the 7 different meals ordered only 3 thought the food was great. I ordered Pineapple Shrimp. Shrimp had good flavor but was dry and slightly over cooked. The entrees were all good not great but very good. The seafood seemed to be fresh. They do an excellent job frying food. Light batters. Solid beer selection and full bar. Prices are fairly high; I think you're paying for the ambience and convenient location. The seafood paella's sauce had a good flavor. The seafood bake was okay. I think I expected more... It had a good flavor, like a lobster bisque-type sauce. I did NOT like the imitation crabmeat that was used. Blech. And the orzo was like it came out of a box, kind of generic with peas and carrots. So, why did I give 4 stars and not 3...? Sat outside (there was a wonderful breeze) and still had great service. Have been to Havanas many times, each time we try to give it another chance. The food and service continues to be very inconsistent. Three of us ordered fish dishes, salmon, grouper and tuna, they were all cooked not as asked, blackened instead of grilled, veggies were cold, as was rice. Service was not particularly friendly and seemed put out when asked to have fish recooked, rice heated etc...for a meal over a hundred bucks in Carolina beach, not worth the value read more
