I had a deeply upsetting experience with this tailor during my wedding dress process for my November wedding. From the moment we arrived, she was unfriendly, dismissive, and surprisingly mean, even telling me that my bridal shower dress "wasn't pretty." Throughout the appointment she complained about having work to do, talked about how she "doesn't need to do this for work," and repeatedly mentioned being ready to quit. She also never responded to texts or calls, even when my mom reached out multiple times with important questions. Instead of creating a supportive environment, she spent most of the appointment venting about her kids and personal stress. What hurt the most was how she treated me personally. I was clearly nervous and overwhelmed, and she didn't care at all. Her tone and comments made me feel insecure and sad during what should have been one of the happiest moments of my life. I actually left the appointment feeling ugly, ended up not choosing the dress because of how she made me feel, and cried afterward. No bride should ever be made to feel that way. Overall, the experience was unprofessional, uncomfortable, and emotionally damaging. I truly hope other brides don't have to go through what I did. read more

Joanna is a miracle worker! As somebody who normally wears a size 10, I was shocked when a bridal shop ordered me a size 22. I chalked it up to weird bridesmaid dress sizing and called it a day. Then the dress came in. It literally would not stay up on me and I realized the dress would have to be reconstructed. With only 2 months until the wedding day, I was so thankful to find Joanna. I took the dress in expecting to pay out the wazoo for the alterations. Joanna's price was beyond reasonable at a mere $50! It only took two weeks to correct it. Upon picking it up, I was in awe of how perfectly it fit while still looking like the original design of the dress. The wedding day was this past weekend. Some of the other bridesmaids got their dresses altered at other places (including the actual bridal shop) and had weird issues with fabric sticking out, awkward tightness in certain spots, etc. My dress looked flawless. I heard about Joanna when I was in two weddings last summer, both with bridesmaids dresses that I didn't trust my drycleaner to alter. (One was multi-layered chiffon and the other was solid silver sequins.) Joanna was AMAZING, both dresses were perfect and alterations were affordable. What makes me LOVE Joanna is how she essentially recreated my bridesmaid dress from a wedding I was recently in, a head-to-toe gold sequin dress that the bride ordered from an overseas Etsy shop. My dress and several of the other bridesmaids' dresses were disasters. Joanna had to cut open the entire dress and alter just about every part of it. The best... just the best. Before I was even engaged, my best friend told me that when I got married, I had to use Joanna for my wedding dress. After seeing how gorgeous my friend looked in her perfectly altered Monique Lhuillier gown, I knew she was right. I went to Joanna with my very simple Amsale trumpet gown in the hopes that she could make the dress a little more "me." After some discussion, we agreed to put an organza illusion neckline on my strapless gown and added a dramatic bow on the back. I am absolutely in LOVE with the final outcome! Just today I got back my bridesmaids dress that Joanna altered. It is the most amazing alteration job I have ever seen! I had to have the dress taken in 3" and had to have the hook-and-eye replaced, and it was not a normal bridesmaids dress but one bought at a store off the rack. It literally looks like the dress was made like that! The seams are beautiful and she really took the time to take the dress out, resize it and stitch it all back together beautifully. Even better? Such reasonable prices. When I get married or have other alterations I will always use Joanna. So friendly, such great service and amazing prices. Thank goodness I found her!! Although I was measured and accordingly given the size to order at House of Brides, my dress came and was HUGE- it was like 2 sizes too big. So I was really worried about how the alterations would come out, since the dress was kind of odd and poofy to begin with... But they came out great! You seriously couldnt even tell I had it altered, it was perfect! OH and the price was awesome as well (pretty much half of what House of Brides would have charged). read more

Joanna is a wonderful seamstress! My daughter and I came to her with wedding dress and mother of the bride dress. She made it look simple to make our dresses look even that much better. I bought my wedding dress off the rack at a consignment shop many MANY sizes too big and when I took it to Joanna, it needed more than just a few minor alterations. Joanna essentially rebuilt the dress to my specifications and gave me a gorgeous, custom-made dress that perfectly fit my vision and the theme of my wedding. Going that route certainly made things more stressful and when I questioned my decision to buy such a difficult dress and debated scrapping it entirely and ordering a new dress, she was there for me and assured me the finished dress would be perfect. It truly was! I had 4-5 fittings over the course of 6 months and during that time, I lost 10 pounds. Joanna patiently took in the dress each time it needed to be smaller. She is an incredibly talented and skilled seamstress, with an eye for design and great instinct, and I knew I could trust her to give me a dress that flattered me on my wedding day. Joanna is an absolute genius. She basically recut my whole wedding dress and added gorgeous lace straps that she created by hand. It was absolutely stunning. She's also wonderful to work with; she let me come back for fittings as often as I wanted and was completely generous with her time and very helpful opinions. I actually give Joanne no stars. I was given her name as a recommendation, but I would never recommend her or ever use her again. The recommendation did come from somebody who used her quite awhile ago for a wedding dress she had altered, but maybe she has gone (way) downhill since. She was beyond rude on three separate occasions to me and my husband. I called for an appointment to get my dress altered, and when I came in for the appointment, she made a comment about me bringing my kids. Throughout the alteration appt, I could tell she was annoyed my kids were there. They were behaving and not crying or anything else that could have been annoying..they were just there with me. Then, at the end of the appt she looked in her calendar to see when I could pick my dress up. We were talking about dates, and she mentioned I could come in on a Saturday but it wasn't ideal b/c she was very busy that day, but if I just wanted to pick up my dress and go it would be fine. I agreed to pick up on Friday however. Then, circumstances changed and since I didn't feel comfortable bringing my kids to the appointment, I called to see if I could pick up on that Saturday she mentioned or a different day. When I was talking, she cut me off as soon as she heard me mention "Saturday", and said she wasn't open and "You will just have to come in today (Friday) or Monday." I was a little confused why she said she was closed but wasn't going to argue and told her I would figure it out. Then, on Monday (today), my husband was in Glenview so he picked up the dress for me and she was beyond rude to him as well. She did not acknowledge him when he arrived and so he waited and then finally said that he was there to pick up a dress for his wife, which she proceded to say "what dress?" and act annoyed and confused. Then, he told her he thought I was supposed to pick up my dress over the weekend (which he forgot about was actually Friday), and she corrected him saying "It was Friday!" and got annoyed again. I will NEVER use her again. I haven't seen or tried on my dress yet, but I am so upset over her mannerisms that it doesn't even matter if my dress fits amazing. You can not have a good business and expect people to come back when you are treated like that. read more

I used Joanna to alter my wedding dress. I needed it taken in a bit, shortened and I also wanted the train removed to use that fabric to make straps for my strapless dress. She also offered her opinion as to what was the best undergarments to wear under the dress. Joanna listened to what I wanted and delivered. She also added hooks to my sash because I didn't want to tie it. I had 3 fittings before finally picking up the dress. At each appointment she was ready for me. On my final pick-up I tried on the dress and it fit perfectly, it was beautiful. There is only one "however" to this story. The day of the wedding, my right strap would not stay on my shoulder at all. I'm not sure what happened from the time I picked it up to the day of my wedding (2 days later). Luckily my wedding coordinator had double-sided fabric tape and attached it to the strap and it was perfect. It stayed up all day. I received many compliments on how I looked in my dress and my husband loved the straps. (He was with me when I bought it when it was strapless). He thought I was beautiful.
