Found this gem through reviews on Yelp! Took my family for a night out to try something not very common - schnitzel! Easy to find with Google Maps. Good parking right infront but lots of signs to beware of where you park or risk towing. Friendly waitress seated us right away. For a Thursday night there was only 1 other couple there. We went at 6pm. Cool decor with a relaxed feel. Not exactly romantic but very relaxed and family friendly. The menu is extensive - It took quite a while to make a decision with All the choices! One of us got the pepper, one of us got the one recommend on the menu - Jagerschitzel, and I really wanted to try the garlic butter so I went for the Prairie. Free salad was given quickly after ordering which was a great snack but quite tart for my taste. Our meal came in what I thought was a reasonable amount of time. The pepper one was exactly as described very pepper like. Not hot spicy but like you dumped the whole pepper shaker in. My friend loved it. My other friend liked their Jagerschitzel but I actually found the sauce too BBQ like instead of creamy. My Prairie was ...interesting with the Kraft processed cheese. Real peices of bacon! The garlic butter was frozen like a rock so difficult to spread and didn't add a lot to the dish in flavor. Portions looked great but actually we didn't end up with any leftovers at all considering we all got full orders. The potato salad was loved by everyone. The potato croquettes were very good but soooo pricey. Paid an additional $5 to an already $25 dish for 5 deep fried mashed potato balls. Worth trying once but I don't think I'll get them again. Didn't seem to have a lot of other seasoning inside but very nice crispy and fluffy inside. I was out of water for quite a while before waitress came to refill but otherwise great service. I recently moved to the West End of Edmonton from the South Side and have since been looking for a great German restaurant this side of town. Upon a quick Google search, I stumbled upon this restaurant. The reviews online were overwhelmingly positive, so I thought I would pay them a visit. So to speak. Upon arriving at the restaurant, my waitress/server was quick to scan my vaccine passport as per the Restrictions Exemption Program and I was promptly directed to my seat. I wasn't waiting more than 5 minutes and my server took my order. I ordered a Paulaner Salvator (beer) and Swiss schnitzel with potato salad instead of fries. The meal started with a yummy garden salad with a spicy vinaigrette(?) dressing. No more than 15 minutes later my dinner was ready. I thought it was absolutely delicious. The Swiss cheese on the schnitzels were Kraft Singles. For the record, I would be happy to pay a little more for real cheese if they were ever to consider using it at some point in the future. The flavor of the schnitzels would go from excellent to sublime. The potato salad was good too. I found the portion sizes to be quite filling. During the meal my server did not hover, but was present if needed. The interior decorating in the restaurant was really neat, and the premises were completely spotless. From the moment I arrived until the moment I left I felt welcome and like I was at home. The only thing that would have made the evening better would have been a slice of German cake of some sort with some coffee. If you like quality, authentic German cuisine, look no further. Curry Sausage is sooo delicious. I'm not a curry fan but the waitress recommended it and I'm literally licking the plate right now. :) Pepper Schnitzel paired with side Caesar salad and Croquets (fried mashed potatoes) was hands down delicious too! There aren't many German places in town. The only other options I can think of are The Bauernschmaus and German Cultural Centre. Haus Falkenstein opened awhile back but then closed due to a fire. They re-opened recently so we gave them a shot one Friday evening. Note their hours: only open from 4:00 - 9:00pm. I'd highly recommend reserving ahead if you're planning to come on a Friday or Saturday evening. That or go early 'cause it's busssssssy. The inside is bright, almost sterile. The clientele is an interesting mix of olddddd; they clearly have a well established clientele. Average age has to be at least 70. The menu is expansive but mainly due to their Guinness world record of having the most varieties of schnitzels. The menu is an interesting read - there's a FAQ justifying why they use processed cheese and canned mushrooms. - Erdinger weissbier ($8.50) - it's a wheat beer, easily drinkable. - Salad - complimentary salad for everyone. It doesn't look like much but the dressing had a light tangyness to it. - Homemade potato salad ($5.00) - we shared one order for the table. I'm not a huge potato salad fan but this was good. Just the right amount of creaminess. - Zigeuner cream schnitzel ($18.75) - the portion size is quite generous. The sauce was smooth, creamy and tasted exactly how I'd imagined a pepper sauce to taste like. - Holstein schnitzel ($19.75) - M subbed in homemade potato croquettes ($5.00 extra). The croquettes were awesome! Pricey but good. Her dish was more interesting with peas adding some vegetables and lightness to the dish. - Lethbridge schnitzel ($22.75) - Av ordered the Lethbridge and it was gone in no time. Found this in search for a Great Schinitzel. Staff were very nice as greeted us right away. Place inside is pretty cool as alot of different items displayed throughout the restaurant. I'm going to be honest - I was not expecting to like it here, but I used to live in a city where there was an amazing schnitzel house and I've been looking for a substitute since moving here. The first time I noticed this place, it was a fluke as we drove by. We walked in and the restaurant had a very overwhelming smell of oil permeating the air. We were looking for a take out menu, but they didn't have any, so we left. It popped up again in different reviews and they seemed positive, so we decided to come back and try a meal. We walked towards the front door and a man (he works there) sitting in a wheelchair smoking was in the doorway. He said we could slide around him, and that was an awkward stumble into the restaurant. Once inside, there were a couple of tables finishing up. We came shortly after dinner rush-hour, so we were lucky it wasn't busy. We sat and shared a beer while we waited for our food. (The beer was delicious!). Our server was very friendly - I think she may have been the owner. There are a lot of options to choose from, and I thought indecisive me would be stuck in indecision paralysis, (they held the world record for most types of schnitzel served) but the menu is pretty easy to navigate. (IE. Options read: 1. Bacon. 2. Bacon, onion. 3. Bacon, onion, mushroom, etc. So once you decide you don't want one type, you can move on to the next block of options.) We ordered the fried onions & garlic butter schnitzel plus added bacon, and the mushroom & onion cream sauce. We both wanted the croquettes and Caesar salad instead of fries. The portions are decent sized. You get two pieces of fresh schnitzel to an order and they are made fresh and pan fried to a crisp. Not too thin, perfectly crispy and flavourful, though I had some bites were saltier than others. The toppings were plentiful but I think the cream sauce was the winner over the garlic butter - there was some serious flavour going on. The salads were meh - a bit too soggy for my taste, and not super cold on the same plate as the rest of the food. I really enjoyed the croquettes! You get 5 per order and they are light and crispy with soft, fluffy mashed potatoes on the inside. Overall, a very yummy meal. Loved this place. Food was perfectly fried and seasoned and the meat was obviously fresh and not a frozen schnitzel that had been re-fried. Variety is incredible. There are 65 different schnitzels to choose from. We started with the sausage appetizer which consisted of two full sized bratwurst, sauerkraut, and some REALLY delicious mustard. The mustard was a little sweet rather than spicy and had a faint bitter flavour from the different mustard seeds. The combination of the sausage, kraut, and mustard is a bite you do not want to miss. For mains, we had the classic Weiner Schnitzel and the Lethbridge Schnitzel. Weiner Schnitzel was plain but solid. Lethbridge Schnitzel sent my tastebuds into a frenzy. It was a regular schnitzel topped with mushrooms, bacon, cheese and two sunny side eggs. Really delicious! The potato croquettes were really good too, but I'm not sure if it warranted an additional $5 charge. Mains also came with a Caesar salad. Pretty basic. It would've been nice to have a different salad option. Caesar can be pretty rich and everything else on the plate was already pretty heavy. The only reason I gave this a 4/5 was because the mushrooms on the Lethbridge Schnitzel were canned mushrooms and the cheese was processed cheese. Family owned and run, this friendly little gem is tucked away on the west side of the city, and not one to be looked over! They have a variety of delisicious imported german beers to complement a crazy amount of varieties of schnitzel on their menu. If you prefer chicken vs pork, make sure you call ahead to let them know. The schnitzels are pounded nice and thin with a light crispy batter. I enjoyed mine with just a touch of lemon juice, while hubby went to town with the house special- the Falkenstien which is 2 large pork schnitzels smothered in a rich and lucious cream and chanterelle sauce. Their potato salad and croquettes are killer and if you have space, they have a variety of traditional sausages you can try. Came to Haus on a Friday evening. Despite what we had read, we didn't make a reservation. Drove up, and had a plan b just in case. Walked in and there were plenty of tables available. Although I can see where it could be an issue, as there would maybe 15 tables in the place. We were told we could sit anywhere, grabbed a table and our server came by right away to get a drink order. Decided to go with on of the German beers, as those were the Haus (house) specialty. Our server was quick with the drinks and we were ready to order. I went with the Pepper Schnitzel, and my wife went with the Jägerschnitzel (half order). Within a minute there were Haus (house) salads on our table. We had just finished the salads and our mains were delivered. Hot and tasty. Since my wife had a half order we thought that the salad to start was it... but no, there was a ceasar salad on the plate too. Along with fries. I had a salad too - consisting of exactly 1 thumb sized romaine lettuce leaf (I'm not kidding about the size), and a half of a cherry tomato that barely covered the leaf. It was actually quite laughable. However the entire place was awash in peppercorn gravy covering the schnitzel and a healthy helping of fries ! It was very good ! The peppercorn sauce definitely had some kick to it. and the pairing of a dark German beer also helped ! I had some of my wife's Jägerschnitzel, and it had a great flavour to it as well. Overall, we had a lovely server and our food was delivered quickly and piping hot ! Just because a restaurant can do hundreds of "types" of Schnitzels does not mean they can get any of them right. It was winter time in Edmonton. The mercury was well below 20 and the boys and I needed something to stick to our ribs. I had heard the reviews about Haus Falkenstein and was in the area - I demanded we stop in; I also needed a cocktail it had been hours. From the beginning things went wrong. The young dark haired waitress managed to abort even the drink order leading to a quite a comical dance about whether to approach the table with the drinks she managed to get right or retreat to the kitchen- with some auditory coxing from yours truly we got her past the nervousness and I got my cocktail. However, there was nothing I could do for the food. Schnitzel is not hard. You take high quality meat pound on it, deep fry it, then serve it. They got that part right but they clouded the issue with horrible toppings (I got a craft single and slice of ham on top of my Schnitzel) I won't mention the suspect topping my guest endured - and then came the sides. The Caesar salad was brutal - soggy over dressed with that cheap powder parmesan cheese that is probably a few molecules from wall paper paste. Yes it was the salad you would expect in the worst truck stop on the longest highway to nowhere. For three people, two of whom had 1/2 orders and two of whom had two cocktails each - with a tip the damage was approx. 125$ - and I do mean damage. The icing on the cake was the bill. Or at least the greased stained waiter's pad of paper they dropped on the table and called a bill. I was embarrassed for everyone in the room. I love Schnitzel. Don't let Haus Falkenstien ruin Schnitzel for you. read more

This restaurant was great, known for it's wide variety of freshly made schnitzel and they did not dissapoint! I tried the schnitzel with a bacon and mushroom cream sauce on top with a side of potato croquettes, it was really delicious with a smoky taste, my boyfriend had the schnitzel with peas and 2 fried eggs on top, he really enjoyed his meal as well, huge portions, you will not leave hungry,service was great, looking forward to trying their other varieties, glad we checked this place out, will be back for sure :) read more

Quite honestly this restaurant was a disappointment. The schnitzel itself wasn't bad but the canned mushrooms and processed cheese ruined my choice. French fries with schnitzel does not do it for me. It seems like an easy answer to fill a plate, along with the mediocre Caesar salad. Nothing German about this at all. Choice for dessert was ice cream or gelato. We were passing by this evening and noticed the open sign on this restaurant and decided to stop in for supper and are we so pleased we did, we both had Schnitzel mine with home-made croquets and my husband's with fries, my sauce was delicious and my husband said his had a real kick to it, we were so well taken care of by one of the owners and realised how lucky we were to be in such an authentic place. You know you're in for a treat when your first introduction to the menu is a long list of disclaimers defending the poor choices of ingredients used to prepare your meal! Q: Why do we use canned mushrooms? A: Because we can go days without serving mushrooms. Real, fresh mushrooms go bad and will get thrown out/There's too much moisture in fresh mushrooms and will take to long to fry. The truth: over half the menu uses mushrooms in their Jager sauce and if your clientele is paying good money for a meal out they deserve basic button mushrooms at the very least. I despise mushrooms but my opinion is based on principle. Q: Why do we use processed cheese? A: Because real cheese is expensive. A block of swiss cheese is 10 dollars and our schnitzel is 18. Also, processed cheese compliments our spices better then real cheese. The truth: I can name over 100 independently owned restaurants in Edmonton that choose to use only the highest quality ingredients and their prices do not suffer for it. If these restaurants can figure it out then you can to. The take away: If they are willing to make short cuts with the cheese and mushrooms then what else are they willing to cheat on? I ordered the curry schnitzel. I may be wrong but my suspicion is that the curry sauce was actually Diana's BBQ sauce with curry powder mixed in. After a few bites I could no longer continue. My co-diner ordered the asparagus/hollandaise. The asparagus was white and over cooked to a mushy consistency. And I might be wrong but the hollandaise sauce did not taste as if from scratch but packaged. If you are looking for exceptional schnitzel try the Bauernschmaus instead. read more

Great food! The only thing we dont like is that you do not see a visible bill with exactly what everyone ordered. You are just given the total. Who knows if your getting cheated on your bill or not. I ordered Champignons Snitzel and I was disgusted to see a pile of canned mushrooms on the snitzel - no gravy, no sauce, dry. The French word Champignons, in the menu, conveyed fine cuisine to me, but the finding was not at all fine. I drank my first cup of coffee before I started the meal and I obtained the second cup of coffee at the end of the meal after having to ask for it and the waitress first telling me she did not know if they had any. In the meantime, I had trouble swallowing my snitzel. At Haus Falkenstein beware of canned mushrooms and service. read more
