Food was expired, and over priced. Its better to get polish food at the Italian shops. Owner was very rude to his employees and customers.

Syrena (Siren), located in the Polish Hall, has changed management and is now open as Syrenka…read more(Little Siren). Syrenka is open only on Sunday now 11:30 am - 6:00 pm. Other changes is that it no longer offers an a la carte menu, just the buffet. We visited Syrenka after a Sunday morning event. The LRT has not improved access to the Polish Hall, so be prepared to ignore your GPS directions. Access is through the back parking lot to a small side door with a Syrenka sign. An elevator takes one to the third floor, through a winding corridor to the restaurant itself. The restaurant was empty and the sole serving staff finally appeared telling us to take any table we wished, choose whatever we wished from the buffet and the price. Now for the food. The information about Syrenka we got from the Polish Hall staff was that flaki (tripe soup, really, it's very good) was on the menu. Not so, The soup was Zur (rye sour sour), also typically Polish, well made but not what we came for. Beside the soup was a very nice rye bread with, surprise, garlic smolec (rendered pork fat) spread. Butter is available with the dinner rolls on the buffet table. The buffet had two Polish salads, cabbage and cucumber with sour cream. The third salad selection was a non-descript green salad. The main dishes were mashed potatoes, pyrogies, chicken schnitzel, drumsticks, mixed veg, potato pancakes and lasagna. Missing were Polish delights such as bigos and cabbage rolls. Desserts included three kinds of squares found in any church basement but the star was the Polish cheesecake. Unlike its North American counterpart, Polish cheesecake is light, fluffy and sweet enough to go well with the included coffee and tea service. Apparently, Polish people drink their coffee black so be warned. Despite the lack of serving staff, dishes were cleared promptly. There was another server wandering about on occasion but her purpose was never explainer. Was she the chef, management or someone who just liked dressing as a waitress? We left full but slightly disappointed that our Polish favourites weren't on the menu that Sunday.

I arrived about 10 minutes later than everyone else First impression.. if you have never been there before, go upstairs to the third floor. .. theres no signage to tell you. Once you enter , there's no hostess or greeter. My coworker told me to just start at the buffet table...$22.95 per person ( there was a small sign on the buffet table ). The food looked delicious. But out of order ( soup was in the back of the table.. desserts right up front ). If you dont want the buffet, there is also a menu. There was your standard Caesar salad, cole slaw. Fresh buns . Good choice of proteins ( pork ribs, roast beef, pork loin ) , and perogies ( what kind of Polish restaurant would it be without that ). Sadly there was no cabbage rolls ) . Mashed potatoes only .. no potato pancakes ?? ) Mixed vegetables. Desserts were pretty plain.. very small pieces of cheesecake, fresh fruits and variety of cakes ( european style.. small and thin ). Overall the food was delicious and hot. Sadly i never interacted with any servers or staff until i went to the bar to pay ( i was told by a coworker that's where we pay ) . Here's what the place needs to improve. 1. Have a hostess to greet diners. 2. Have servers interact more with diners and explain the process.. i learned about where to pay from a coworker. Ohh there is a coat room in the corner. Might have been nice to know that instead of tripping over people's coats. Due to no interaction with any staff at all , it's hard to ration why leave a tip. Food 4/5 Service 1/5 Would I go back? Most likely not.

We started w a pierogi sampler plate. Every current flavour - some new ones, chicken curry and pulled pork. All delicious w great sauces. The bread was super tasty- multigrain w garlic butter. Who knew gluten free bread could be so good Pickle soup and French onion soups were great. Pickle soup is not that sour so definitely try if you want lighter fare. Most had chicken or pork schnitzel specials were great. My husband is half Austrian and raised on schnitzel - he loves CTs schnitzel. I had the tomato and avocado salad. Great dressing - not sweet or cloying just a great accompaniment to the rich avocado - w grilled chicken that must be marinated- it was so good. Too full for dessert again! But have their Apple strudel which is lovely. CT is a YEG institution for good reason. Try their pierogi's at Strathcona Farmers or Bountiful.

(I know the year 1982 well... It's when I was born. Ha ha.) Any restaurant with that kind of longevity is a mainstay. A reliable "forever" type of place that has stood the test of time - and believe me, it has been a test. Owned and operated by three generations of the Borówka family, their roots from Poland and Ukraine are reflected in the menu. They have even opened a second location downtown in recent years, expanding their comfort food empire twofold. So what is "continental" cuisine? By definition it's any food from Europe. And Continental Treat is prepared to feed you just like your European grandmother did. Voted Best/Favourite Continental Restaurant in 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023 by the Edmonton Journal, this restaurant's legacy lives on in the hearts of Edmontonians. The ambiance is palpable. Just walking by Continental Treat on any given evening, you will be delighted by a visual tableau of the most cozy and romantic restaurant that you have ever laid your eyes upon. Dim lighting, candle-lit tables, lovers holding hands and gazing into each other's eyes... That's what goes on here. I visited on a Saturday evening and was in the mood for a little bit of the CT magic. Their corner location allows for windows on both sides and the inside of the restaurant is packed with old-world charm. You'll find a lot of dark wood, perfectly set tables adorned with tablecloths, European art, and the aforementioned candle light. (We're talking wine bottles being used as candle holders with tons of wax dripping down the sides type of vibe.) It's exceedingly cozy with light jazzy piano music being played in the background. The space is certainly not modern in any sense but it feels right. Situated at a comfortable table in the middle of the dining room, I got myself acquainted with the martini list. There are some interesting options to choose from and I was curious about the Pink Squirrel (Amaretto, Creme de Cacao, cream, splash of grenadine - $14.95 for 2oz). It would be nice to see a "signature cocktail" or martini that reflects the restaurant and its cuisine a bit better (maybe it's the C-Tini, actually) but I am always happy to try something pink. I loved this pretty, pink, girly drink and enjoyed it thoroughly! Did it look a bit like Pepto-Bismol? Yes (and we made jokes about it). But it tasted delicious (not too strongly boozy) and I loved the cherry-sweet flavour! It was almost like a dessert! This martini looked cute and I would definitely order it again. Our server was personable and friendly, staying on top of our every need for the duration of our visit. I'm glad that I made a reservation because it wasn't long before every single table was occupied. We were immediately served a warm basket of two types of bread (gluten-free!) and I helped myself to a slice of rye slathered in ample amounts of melty butter. If I had to pick the most famous item on the Continental Treat menu it would have to be the Creamy Dill Pickle Soup (Helena's famous dill pickle soup - $6.50 for a cup). I have ordered it every single time that I have dined here and I'm sure that many other people do the same. This soup is a hit for a reason. If you had an Eastern European grandma (like I did) this will remind you of her soups. It's lighter than you think it will be and filled with nice big pieces of potatoes, pickles (of course!) and other vegetables. The pickle flavour is at the forefront but it isn't too much. (Let's be honest, it could never be too much for me). It's cozy comfort in soup form. In a city that boasts many amazing soups, this is certainly one of the top picks. You can even order a "Euro Bowl" which I think is a really big bowl of soup! No one would judge you - it would be the right call. There are also several other soups on the menu that sound amazing and if I could ever tear myself away from the pickle soup I would love to try the Red Barszcz or the Sauerkraut & Potato. Can we talk about the gluten-free aspect for a sec? Continental Treat wasn't always a "gluten-free restaurant." This change was brought to the menu in 2007 when the decision was made to embrace gluten-free cooking both to promote healthier eating as well as to provide wonderful European dishes to diners who have intolerances. The goal was to make food that is indistinguishable or superior to traditional gluten-containing products. And I have to say, eating that rye bread, I would never have known the difference. This makes me think of my Polish grandfather, who did indeed have celiac. He would have loved this place. I don't think of Continental Treat as a "gluten-free restaurant," I think of it as a European restaurant that happens to serve gluten-free food. You KNOW that Continental Treat is going to have Signature Gourmet Pierogies & Dumplings on their menu - it's a must a

My partner and I usually go to another place but it was our first time there to celebrate the Ukrainian Christmas. The food was very delicious and the portions generous. Frozen meals and snacks (cake, pie, loaf cake, beef jerky, pampushky) available too. Ordered the Maxi plate so I could try the perogies, nalysnyky, kobbassa, and meatballs. All for $15. Place had the AC running hard but it was +27 outside so understandable. Sausage was great. Just basic garlic sausage, not spicy. Meatballs were covered in a nice beef gravy. Perogies were fresh, I tried the cottage cheese ones which were nice - very light flavor. The Nalysnyky were great and highly recommend to try as they are pretty unique. Friend got the cabbage roll and had to ask for tomato sauce for on top (otherwise comes sauce-less). Filling is just rice looked like. Overall nice Ukranian food with a menu that lets you try everything in whatever quantity you want.

Service was really friendly & helpful for us first timers and since we're big fans of a good schnitzel, we ordered the jagerschnitzel (fried pork cutlet with mushroom) & the farmer's feast to get a little try of several things (smoked pork loin, sausage & pork roast with sauerkraut or red cabbage). Meals also come with salad, complimentary bread and your choice of side carb - we tried the dumpling, which is kind of like a big ball of stuffing with gravy on top, and the Viennese pasta - a gnocchi-ish lighter pasta (we liked this one best, it melted in your mouth!). Food was made fresh - you can hear them pounding out the schnitzel - and was very well seasoned. We ended with a slice of strudel to share and it was stuffed with so much apple, it was filling in itself! Decor is retro and cozy - a warm & inviting vibe for a cold wintery night. It felt like we'd stepped into an old school restaurant in Europe & we were digging it.
