I absolutely love the Haunted Hamburger in Jerome AZ!! I have been here two times now and both times I was lucky enough to get seated on the back patio, overlooking the entire valley. I did request it the second visit and waited about an hour and a half but I knew what I signed up for. I ordered a Moscow mule and it was perfect. Then ordered some fried pickles for my girlfriend and myself to start with. Those were good, bigger than I expected. For lunch I had the hangover burger, cooked medium with the perfect fried and runny egg on top. The portions are big and they do not mess around with flavors! I can't wait to go back and try more food on the menu, there's so many delicious sounding plates! The fish tasted like school cafeteria fish sticks and the onions on the burger were severely dehydrated, rubber-like, and bland. Great drive to get here. Parking is annoying at times but the Haunted Hamburger made it worth while. Our 2nd trip. 1st time we had Shepard's pie, meat loaf and carrot cake. All were great but nothing compared to today's meal. The bacon bison burger was out of this world. Served at a perfect temp and presentation was awesome. Pure flavor. Bun was great but the toppings on the burger were what made the meal. We also had Mac n cheese and that was also well worth it. You can't go wrong with these choices. The place was hopping. Over a 55 min wait to get into the outside bar but well worth it from the view. Service, wow. Sam the manager runs a tight ship. She's all over and makes sure everyone is happy. Helping out where she needed to be to make sure her servers are getting things done. Great places have great leadership and Sam is right on top of it. Exploring Jerome for the day and stopped in the Haunted Hamburger for lunch. We sat in the covered, heated patio looking down to the town. In the past, the food has always been good, the view outstanding and the service, excellent. This week's visit suggests they're slipping. The food was "OK". Why does the server ask if you want your burger pink when it's going to come well done anyway? For $12 or whatever, the value of the burger was not acceptable. The service was OK as well. I finally got up and walked the check to the cashier. Oh, the view is still outstanding" Let me add that once again my medium rare burger order came medium. This raises an interesting question: One of our party also ordered "medium rare" and it came medium rare with a pink stick inserted. Mine and another of our party ordered medium rare and - as said - they came medium to well done and had no pink sticks inserted, which says the order was ignored in the kitchen or not communicated. One new comment. In the intervening time since our last visit, the ownership has initiated the practice of adding 3.5% for credit card transactions. That was a surprise but no matter, that resulted in the credit card charge being subtracted from the tip on our $190 bill. Read the low reviews first, it would have saved us a lot of money and disappointment. I do not understand how anyone can think this place has good food-burgers were so beyond mediocre and terribly overpriced. GREAT gluten free burger! I not only had the burger but I also had 1/2 of a twice baked potato and jalapeño coleslaw. I'm thinking my body needed those calories after touring Jerome and then finally making my way up all of the stairs to get to the restaurant....Nah, everything was just that delicious! It was well worth the climb. The burger was thick and cooked to perfection and paired well with a cheesy delicious twice baked potato. I had to order the jalapeño coleslaw because it sounded tasty and was GF. It was delicious and had a just right after burn from the diced jalapeño. My waitress knew exactly what I could and couldn't have and wrote to change gloves on the ticket. I'm VERY pleased with my experience here and will definitely return. True to the name, the atmosphere and decor of this restaurant was all in line with what you think of when you hear the word "haunted." The host took us back inside to be seated where we saw a bookcase on the ceiling, met with beautiful outside views if you look out the window. Their portions are very good. The milkshake was perfect blend of cream and flavor, and they even brought the extra in a metal cup. The food was great, apart from the deviled eggs which seemed a bit dry & dull on the flavor pallet. The waitress was a bit slow to notice water refills. I had to actually ask. But the burgers were juicy and flavorful! I ordered a medium burger and got a medium burger too - yay! Sometimes other places will still over cook the meat. The burger was a bit messy! Voted one of the top burger spots in the state every year, Haunted Hamburger is the place to eat when in Jerome. The wait is long but the views, food and atmosphere make it worthwhile. Put your name on the list early and go explore town until your table is ready. The breaded artichoke hearts with aioli sounded delicious but lacked a bit of flavor. The chicken fajita quesadilla was off the appetizer menu, but it was ginormous and easily shareable as a meal for two. Bourbon Jalapeno Bacon Bison burger was huge and flavorful. As for cocktails, the margarita was good, but the painkiller was the star. The name comes from the ghosts that are said to haunt the old building. This was an excellent and unexpected find! Jerome was not on our travel list but repeated recommendations made us give it a try. Drove up the very winding road and then walked around the town and tried out the stairs. HH did not disappoint! Cheeseburger was terrific! (Voted best in AZ). Drink recommendations also very good! The wait was SO long to get our food and the food is overpriced and not good. I got a burger and my bun was super soggy. The two we baked potato was decent but not great. We had a large party and sat at two tables next to each other. Everyone had similar concerns of the food not being fresh or very good. We sat on the patio and it was nice to have heaters. Warm and relaxed atmosphere, with exceptional service and views. The views are beautiful and the burger was really good. I got the red wine Wagyu and it was moist and full of flavor with the blue cheese and wine aioli. The Carmel milkshake tasted more vanilla. The fried pickles were spicy and spears instead of chips which is a personal preference. They were very busy but allow a phone waitlist which moves quick. Revisited Jerome on Super Bowl weekend. Which gave us an opportunity to try haunted hamburger. We were told the wait time is normally around three hours because they're so good. Being Super Bowl weekend we luckily got right in with no problem. The whole town is very pet friendly the restaurant accommodated our dog treated her just like a regular customer providing her with water and regularly giving attention to. They ordered a burger and the wet salad. Both were amazing portions were great too. The service was fast and efficient and the manager even walked by the tables to make sure everybody was good. Jerome is such an artsy and picturesque town. We wanted a nice fun lunch with a view. This was one of the 1st restaurants that popped up on my Yelp search! Since the town is elevated there's lots of stairs and steep walkways. The parking was very limited. We were dropped off in front of the restaurant. My husband parked the car behind the restaurant. That would be the easiest option for those that want to limit walking up stairs. There's several different dining areas. When you 1st walk in there's the inside dining with a beautiful view. A patio view outside and a top floor view. We sat inside and got an amazing view. We got there right at 11am when they opened and it wasn't very crowded. We were quickly greeted by our server. She mentioned the milkshakes which sounded amazing but it was a bit too early for me. Our server was very knowledgeable and upbeat. She took time to explain my gluten free options. She told us some interesting facts about the town. I ordered the garden salad $10.95 and loaded potato. My husband ordered the Baja fish sandwich $15.95 . My Dad got the bacon cheeseburger $16.95. The cheeseburger came with a choice of loaded potato, fries, salad or slaw. My husband said it was the best fish sandwich he's had in awhile. They also had a desert stand with fresh carrot cake, peanut butter cake, chocolate cake. Everything looked amazing. Everyone was fun and friendly and the food was good. Often I feel a bit guilty that I am so liberal with the stars on this platform but as someone who used to do customer service training in a past life I try to recognize both effort and results. But today's five star rating, I feel, is insufficient. I wish I had more stars to give, quite frankly. We are visiting the area and staying in our RV and I have never chosen to extend that stay only because of a dining experience before, but that's just what we did here. The food and service at Haunted Hamburger were so exceptional we extended our stay so we could go back. Multiple times. I had the meatloaf with the twice-baked potato and it was really delicious. My wife had the Western hamburger and absolutely loved it, too. We also shared the peanut butter chocolate pie. I am a big fan of peanut butter pie - this was the best I've ever had. Bar none. So peanut buttery. All the food was really good but the service was also exceptional. This is as good as it gets. Seriously. I had a wonderful time, ate far more than I should have and just had a great night. This place deserves more than five stars but that's all the stars I have.
