They have hundreds of styles of hats. My husband ended up buying a summer hat. It was not expensive and he looks great in it. We need to go back and get some felt, wool ones for the winter. My husband and I were in here 2 days ago (on a Tuesday around noon). We went out of our way to visit this store in search of a specific kind of hat for my husband. We found the hats we were interested in and spent 20 minutes trying them on and ultimately buying two. The lady working NEVER said a word to us or even looked our way. She muttered the price after ringing us up. What the heck, this was terrible customer service!!! I don't know if she was apathetic or sad. She almost looked like she was going to dry. My wife walked by earlier in the day and saw a couple summer hats through the window she liked so we stopped in later that afternoon. She tried a few on and found one she liked. Very unsatisfactory experience! Purchased a Bigalli hat made in Equador for sun protection playing golf (told the clerk). The hat was worn a limited number of times and deteriorated over a year as noted in the pictures attached. I was told by HU I didn't care for the hat properly (in a condescending tone) which doesn't last in dry conditions without regular maintenance (I live in Houston which is very humid) even though the salesclerk didn't mention anything about climate and maintenance. Also, must take the hat off by the brim apparently and not the top like most hats or the result is the middle picture. I was offered a discount if I purchased another product but unfortunately after the lack of quality with this hat and follow-up customer service treatment, I had no interest in further dealings with HU. This is one of the very few reviews I have taken the time to write which is an indication of how I felt about their customer service/product quality. read more

I came to Hats Unlimited with my parents and boyfriend on a day trip to Santa Barbara, my dad has been looking for a hat to lounge by the pool with and had a very specific style in mind. Hats Unlimited caught our attention and we decided to pay them a visit. They have hats for men, women, and children as well as novelty hats and sunglasses and their prices range from $10 to upwards of $70 (my dad found a hat he liked, but unfortunately the price tag was $50 and out of his budget). Staff was friendly and the girl working was very helpful. They also did not seem to mind that we were taking photos and trying on a variety of different hats. read more

We've been to their sister location in Ventura Harbor many times. Yesterday was the first time at the Santa Barbara store. Dear Hubby needs to wear hats these days due to a tendency toward skin cancer. He found one in a lightweight fedora style with a mesh crown section. It has a braided leather band feature, as well. I'm fond of shape-able ribbon-style hats, but couldn't find one in a color I liked. Instead, I chose a woven paper-fiber straw in a soft olive green shade. $19! They have a lot of cute knock-around hats in fabrics with floral embellishments. Most are reasonably priced. They have a wide selection from novelty to sun-protection to high fashion. The sun protection type are most prevalent, with straw hats in many different styles. They have a few cowboy-esque hats, including stars & stripes patterned ones. The "girl" who works there, Chloe is quite possibly the rudest customer service worker I've encounter. Terrible attitude. Terrible customer service. We drove 30 minutes just to get a hat and Chloe wouldn't even open the door to talk to us even though we got there an hour before closing time according to Yelp AND google.. She shouted as us through the closed door and was super rude the entire interaction. I informed her the hours were wrong and she shrugged and yelled through the glass "im a part time employee what do you want me to do?" To the owner: If you close at 9pm on Friday and Saturdays, please update your business hours. Very disappointing interaction. Chloe needs another job that's not in customer service. read more

The store itself would earn 4 stars. The selection and prices were good however my wife and I arrived just after opening at ten in the morning. I had arrived in Santa Barbara a day before and had left my hat on the kitchen counter and needed a hat to keep my head from burning in the sun. I was pleased with the range of possibilities and ended up purchasing a low grade felt fedora. The two drawbacks were upon entering the store the music being played was an expletive laden hip hop song that dropped the f bomb at least thirty times and this was clearly representative of the play list because the next two songs weren't any cleaner. Not very professional. Secondly the young lady behind the counter was not very helpful or knowledgeable about the merchandise. read more

So, I lost my Tilly hat ($95) and purchased another one only to find my lost hat when I got home. I went back a few days later to return the new unworn hat with tags. I was told they don't take returns only store credit. That policy is on the counter under a cup of pens. No one would ever notice it. I was told that the policy is also on the receipt. Duh! You've already bought the hat by that time and it's too late. I will never shop there again. read more

Sales person was extremely rude to me I came in looking to buy a couple of hats and left because she was so rude. She asked me to leave my drink on the counter and did not say it nicely. Their return policy sucks. I bought a couple of sombreros without tags and the lady with crooked teeth put foam on the inside of the rim so it fit properly. She didn't warn me I wouldn't be able to return or exchange it with it on. When I came back to return it, a different lady said that I couldn't exchange or return it because it had foam inside and there weren't any tags. I explained to her that they didn't come with any and yet she declined me. Sad customer service! read more
