Bought a bag of mild chili spice $5. Just had to since this is the chiliest place in the world! Selling outdoors. The guy was from San Jose, Ca. Seems like everywhere we go we meet people from the bay area. Very cool. On the main road. A very calm dog welcomed us. A lady was busy make a string of chilis.

Hit Hatch yesterday from Tucson to pick up 160 lbs (4 40-lb bags) of Sandias. Little did we know that Hatch was hit by rain for the previous 4 days so getting out to the fields to pick was difficult. Went to our usual place to get the chiles and they had NONE. We were told they weren't going out in the fields and warned that it was unlikely we'd find any fresh chiles, especially Sandias at any other vendor in town. Terribly disappointed we decided to try Hatch Chile Sales and were so excited when we were told they had been in the field that morning and had all varieties available. A little skeptical about the freshness since we had been told at our usual place to be careful not to be sold chiles picked right before the rains, our guy at Hatch Chile Sales opened a bag, let us dig around towards the bottom to inspect and he even took one out and snapped it open for us to see the freshness. He offered over the chile for us to taste and it was bright, crisp and spicy! Perfect! Placed our order, left to have lunch and came back to find all four bags roasted and ready to go. They carried them out for us and put our order in our ice chests. As we were getting ready to leave, a pickup truck came in from the fields with bags of just picked chiles stacked as high as possible. I've learned my lesson and will be hitting Hatch Chile Sales up for all my green chile needs in the future. This smaller, less commercialized place is not only cheaper but they try harder and I appreciate the customer service and warm smiles. Plus, how can you resist their guard dog? The littlest chihuahua ever!!!

Cool store. They didn't have any fresh chiles when I was there - which was disappointing - but I picked up several plastic baggies full of chile and garlic powder. They have quite a variety of dried chiles and powders and prices are ridiculously low.

Found this place after I had lunch across the street from the Pepper Pot in Hatch, NM. I couldn't find a website or phone number but of all the Hatch chile vendors, I think Hatch Chile Sales has the best prices and widest variety of local peppers. From ristras to ground chipotle to other spices for New Mexican foods, this place has it.

The place smells deliciously of peppers and has quite an assortment to choose from. Not sure how to cook with the peppers? Just ask the friendly young lady working the counter who is a wealth of information! Can't wait to make my own red chile sauce and cook with ancho peppers! Definitely worth the short drive off the freeway to stop here. Oh, and the parrot "Gizmo" makes for great entertainment!!

Those sights, smells and sounds get in your blood, and the roasted or fresh hatch options in much the rest of the country are pretty sparse. I tried to resist the urge to order from the Hatch Chile Store because it seemed so expensive and indulgent. Finally I caved and ordered a 10 lb box. Shipped overnight, the chiles were about the most beautiful I'd ever seen, fresh and big. 10 lbs felt like a good generous amount, and not so much as to be overwhelming to deal with. Didn't take long at all to give them a roast on the grill, peel, seed and prep for the freezer. So high praise for the store delivering on the promise of authentic hatch, trusted to be the heat level I desired. Is it worth it? Locally they're about $2.40 for a 4oz diced can, and look to be around $4 each via amazon, if the local is out of stock or doesn't carry. Those cans give you some hatch flavor, but are kind of sad, especially when only the diced version is available. The 10 lb box ended up being 5 lb prepped, or about 20 4oz freezer portions. Considering the cost of the shipped chiles and premium overnight shipping, that's about $3.40 each. So it's not the cheapest way to get your hatch on, but opening the box is exciting, roasting and prepping is a labor of love, and you end up with a much better product for a somewhat comparable cost per serving. As long as I'm far from Texas and the Southwest, come hatch season each year, the Chile Store will definitely be getting an order from me.

I have been buying Hatch Chilis for around 50 years and have never experienced this. I suspect you never rotate your crops and have ruined the soil these were grown in. I was offered a 20% discount on future purchase but why take the risk, just buy elsewhere.

We were passing through on a…read moreroad trip in late 2020 (a COVID-safe way to travel), and stopped here to stretch our legs. The tiny town of Mesilla has a quaint downtown square with a few specialty shops and restaurants and, as a tea lover, I made a beeline for this place. The shop is stuffed with all sorts of loose teas, local products, honey, essential oils, and tea making accessories. Pretty much any of the locally made items would make outstanding souvenirs for any foodie. I make hot tea a lot, so I wanted to peruse all the loose leaf teas. My normal tea shop has a better and larger selection, but I really wanted to support this small business. I had a few questions about the teas for sale, and while the girls working the day I visited were very eager to help, they were sadly not well-versed in tea. Because of this, I ended up just purchasing a standard oolong because I didn't have a lot of confidence in their tea knowledge (just FYI; hopefully the owners will do a bit better training). I don't expect workers to be brew experts, but I would appreciate more thorough knowledge about specialty products. The prices are about what you'd expect for a touristy type tea shop, and when I got home, I made a pot of the oolong and it was tasty. If you love tea, check this place out if you're in the area. Friendly people and good customer service.
