We call ahead to be sure they have both the extra hot as well as the hot green chile before we make the trip. We are able to pick out the chile we want before it is roasted and cleaned as well as spices, frijoles, enchilada sauce, jalapeños, gueritos, and my favorite curtidos! After roasting and cleaning, they put a large plastic bag in out ice chests and we are able to transport the chile to Tucson and easily transfer it to quart freezer bags for freezing. There are many choices for your chile in Hatch but Valverde is simply the best, with friendly and helpful staff.

Their pottery selection is excellent and well priced. We didn't have room for anything large, so passed on buying any pots this time. We'll come back and try again soon. The only thing that keeps me from offering five stars is the relatively low stock of sauces. That may be just be the result of our timing--we were there in October.

We had the pleasure of talking with the grandson and his wife, who now run the business. They were incredibly sweet, welcoming, and genuinely happy to answer questions and help us pick out products. We brought home a jar of their extra hot green salsa, and wow...it is absolutely incredible. It has a serious kick, but the heat never overpowers the flavor. You can actually taste the fresh Hatch chiles instead of just burning your mouth. It's hands down one of the best salsas I've had. Supporting a third generation family business while taking home an authentic taste of Hatch made this one of our favorite stops in New Mexico. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.

They grow a lot of chillies out here and the first time I heard about Hatch, NM was when I was at a farmers market in Santa Fe NM. I stopped in here today to check out their goods and they have a lot to offer! When you walk in, you will immediately smell all the wonderful aromas of chillies! They have lots of different kinds of chillies for sale here. They have frozen green chillies in the back, and also red pepper flakes, dried red chillies, chipotle, canned salsa, dried pecans and more chillies! They also have many imported goods from Mexico here and saw all sorts of housewares on sale here. You can get Mexican style tiles here, aprons, all sorts of ceramics, mortar and pestle, ristras, clothes, purses, hats. I opted to get a Hatch NM T-shirt, a pretty badass cowboy hat with a raptor attacking a snake image on the front, some dried chipotle and some dried mangos with chamoy and chili. Kigelia is not well known in the US, but it has antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory effects. New Mexico is a very dry place and having a good moisturizer is essential in survival. The sales attendant in the store was very friendly and helpful. She did not have to do much convincing for us, but she really did sell the Kigalia products. This is just a neat place to visit. The farm store is away from the downtown area only about a mile…read moredown the road. We picked up 2 bags of mild and one red medium hot Chiles. 120 pound worth. There are some additional items in the store and on the porch but we later went to the 'tourist' store in town to get addition items. Chili tepins, chipotles, t shirts and there are other nik naks to pick up. You know when someone orders some hot chilis to be roasted as everyone around starts coughing.
