If you're driving through Hatch, don't pass this place by. This is the original Hatch Chile stand, and meeting the owners made the stop even more memorable. We had the pleasure of talking with the grandson and his wife, who now run the business. They were incredibly sweet, welcoming, and genuinely happy to answer questions and help us pick out products. We brought home a jar of their extra hot green salsa, and wow...it is absolutely incredible. It has a serious kick, but the heat never overpowers the flavor. You can actually taste the fresh Hatch chiles instead of just burning your mouth. It's hands down one of the best salsas I've had. Supporting a third generation family business while taking home an authentic taste of Hatch made this one of our favorite stops in New Mexico. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area. read more

Over the holiday weekend, we made a day trip to Hatch, from LC, specifically to,pick up roasted green chilies. Bought a 40lb bag & had them roaster & peeled to avoid the hassle. Easy transaction, the Chilis are delicious. Also bought pecans. Yummy too. Hatch Chili e Express is now my go-to for fresh chili, even though I can get them here in Phoenix. read more

This is one of the first shops you'll see coming from the north and highly marketed on Yelp, Google, and YouTube. However, I realized I could have bought dried chile powder alot cheaper at other more obscure stores down the road. However, this store did have a nice cookbook I didn't see elsewhere and other interesting finds. Be sure to take photos of the tall statue of the Muffler Man and giant chile pepper outside. Great store to buy frozen chile and chile powder during the chile off season. During the chile season, you can buy fresh chile and have them roast it for you. They will put it in cooler which we took home and packaged up ourselves. The gift shop also sells great New Mexico gift items: kitchen utensils, t-shirts, jewelry, salsa, jelly/jam, and other Nono love-knacks. Staff is very friendly. read more

When on my recent visit to New Mexico I made it a must to stop in Hatch and enjoy some of their famous Chile. My first stop was Hatch Chile Express and boy they did not disappoint! This shop has everything Chile you never knew you needed! I got a beautiful Chile ristra and lots of spices, seasonings and gift items. Now let's get down to the star of the show ... the Hatch green Chile's. They offer them packaged frozen to go. The ladies working in the shop are also extremely nice friendly and helpful. read more

When in New Mexico, you *must* sample the chile. Red or green? Your choice - or try both - chile goes on or with everything. If you are in the southern part of the state, it is real treat to visit Hatch, the center of New Mexico's chile universe. The highlight for us is Hatch Chile Express, which features anything imaginable related to chiles. From frozen to dried chile, ristas, wreaths, tasteful souvenirs - they have everything a chile cooking chef needs. During July 2008 we bought a few items to take with us and had a couple of boxes mailed to our home. The shipped items arrived well-packed and have given us nearly a year's worth of chile enjoyment. Hatch Chile Express is most highly recommended. We will certainly return. read more

We stopped in Hatch on our drive from Albuquerque to El Paso and couldn't have loved this little shop any more! A huge selection of everything chile-related that you could ever imagine... food products, souvenirs, and the classic dried chile ristras. From the moment you enter the store, you can smell the chilies in the air. Definitely an interesting experience and a must-see if you are in the area. read more

This is a regular stop when we pass through Hatch traveling between Tucson and Santa Fe. If it's chile season around September, we get three 35-lb bags, one each of NM 6-4 (mild), Big Jim (medium) and Sandia (hot). The smell of the chiles roasting is intoxicating. I'll confess to a strong addiction to New Mexico chiles, particularly Hatch. Even in the off-season, I stop in just to see what's new that I can't live without. This visit, they had freshly dried guajillos that were blemish free and still very supple. I also picked up a 2-lb bag of this season's medium heat dried red chiles. My standard ratio for red chile sauce is 12 medium, 6 hot and 6 extra hot, so I was getting low on my inventory of 2014 medium chiles. read more
