Amazing service and such a good selection. Prices were good and the whole place smelt heavenly. Especially if you love spice. They had candy, ceramics, dried peppers, frozen peppers, cheese. You name it, it was there.

Ristra

When on my recent visit to New Mexico I made it a must to stop in Hatch and enjoy some of their famous Chile. My first stop was Hatch Chile Express and boy they did not disappoint! This shop has everything Chile you never knew you needed! I got a beautiful Chile ristra and lots of spices, seasonings and gift items. Now let's get down to the star of the show ... the Hatch green Chile's. They offer them packaged frozen to go. The ladies working in the shop are also extremely nice friendly and helpful.

When in New Mexico, you *must* sample the chile. Red or green? Your choice - or try both - chile goes on or with everything. If you are in the southern part of the state, it is real treat to visit Hatch, the center of New Mexico's chile universe. The highlight for us is Hatch Chile Express, which features anything imaginable related to chiles. From frozen to dried chile, ristas, wreaths, tasteful souvenirs - they have everything a chile cooking chef needs. During July 2008 we bought a few items to take with us and had a couple of boxes mailed to our home. The shipped items arrived well-packed and have given us nearly a year's worth of chile enjoyment. Hatch Chile Express is most highly recommended. We will certainly return.

I enjoyed this little gift shop. Of all the places we stopped, this one had the nicest gifts. The lady that checked us out was friendly and told us some other places to visit in town.

Don't buy your chile here! They have the highest prices in town, and lie about their competitors.

If it's chile season around September, we get three 35-lb bags, one each of NM 6-4 (mild), Big Jim (medium) and Sandia (hot).

Great place to stop in Hatch to stock up on roasted green hatch chilis, or bushels of the reds. I…read morewas just passing through without a cooler on this trip so I grabbed a few pieces of metal sculpture art and a couple of bags of green chili powder and left with a big smile on my face. The staff are all very friendly and eager to answer any questions you might have. I've been here several times over the years and each time I go I feel like I should have grabbed more of their unique art and amazing chili peppers.

It was luckily the right season, great timing, so we decided to stop in while nearby, and wow it…read morewas worth it. The magnificent truth is, Hatch New Mexico has the best chili peppers in the world. And I don't mean they have to be hot, although that can be a good thing, the taste is inexplicable, beyond expression, very unique and also extraordinary. The smell alone of fresh chili, and the aroma of fire roasting peppers, and the incredible volume of the cosecha is unparalleled. These folks make incredible salsas and powders with their chilis - hmmm good! As you gaze upon ristra after ristra of chili peppers dangling from the girders, and laying on the trays, or scattered among the displays and even in your hands - you can't be but astonished at the flavor and fragrance that abound around you. Everything roasted or sun-dried Hatch Chili is here. From whole chilis, powdered chili, edible, ornamental and utilitarian ristras - this place is simply fascinating. Just in case you're wondering, not all Hatch Peppers are hot, hot, hot! They come is Mild), Medium (Big Jim), Hot (Sandia), extra Hot (Barker), double extra Hot (Lumbre) and the triple extra Hot (Lumbre). Personally, I can't recommend Lumbre - yes, I've tried it. And just in case you're not prone to taking some peppers with you like we did for our freezer, chile food products, accessories, books and some miscellaneous merchandise to remember them by. Chile Fanatic is worth the stop when Hatch. Most recommended.
