The Good: *Lady running the front was friendly enough *Store is very organized and comfortable to walk around in. *Prices seemed about the same as everywhere else The Meh: *A bit of a language barrier The Ugly: *We arrived into town after 9 a.m. (store claims to be open at 8:30), and they were closed. We happened to see them just as they were opening as we were leaving town after 10 a.m. Luckily for them, I was still looking for something, and that's the only reason I stopped. Otherwise, they'd have been SoL. TLDR: Nice place, but hours of operation may be arbitrary. #TheEarlyBirdGetsTheWorm

We had the pleasure of talking with the grandson and his wife, who now run the business. They were incredibly sweet, welcoming, and genuinely happy to answer questions and help us pick out products. We brought home a jar of their extra hot green salsa, and wow...it is absolutely incredible. It has a serious kick, but the heat never overpowers the flavor. You can actually taste the fresh Hatch chiles instead of just burning your mouth. It's hands down one of the best salsas I've had. Supporting a third generation family business while taking home an authentic taste of Hatch made this one of our favorite stops in New Mexico. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area.

After roasting and cleaning, they put a large plastic bag in out ice chests and we are able to transport the chile to Tucson and easily transfer it to quart freezer bags for freezing. There are many choices for your chile in Hatch but Valverde is simply the best, with friendly and helpful staff.

Not too hot (medium rated) and very flavorful. We also bought a ristra, which traveled well to the West Coast and then back to St Louis, and which is now hanging in our kitchen. Their pottery selection is excellent and well priced. We didn't have room for anything large, so passed on buying any pots this time. We'll come back and try again soon. The only thing that keeps me from offering five stars is the relatively low stock of sauces. That may be just be the result of our timing--we were there in October.

This store....has it all!…read more Lots of different things to sell. Toys, relics, religious items, house goods and more. Most had solid pricing. They are a HUGE supplier of fireworks . Wait, people use fireworks other than July 4? Evidently, yes absolutely. . People buy from all around the US. Don't know if fireworks are popular in NM ??? The Godfather. $1100 package f fireworks- estimated would be about 4 hours of a show. They sell about 4-5 of the Godfather annually. I believe him We bought a few on smaller ones, I'm not comfortable with the big ones. Concerned about safety, losing a finger or eye is not acceptable. We used the fireworks that night. Can't take them home to CA! I listed two of the videos. They sold moccasins, but were fairly pricey. $60+. Unless that's a good price, unsure. World famous fudge ...I had to bite. $12 a pound was reasonable. They had 6flavors, I chose chocolate, peanut butter and chocolate with pecan. Fudge was good, but not amazing. Worth getting some, yes. The guy assisting me was super friendly. Chatted about the fireworks and their desert bot (transformer you know! Haha. ). Their mascot , is also available for sale if you are interested. $20k ). Also about his whereabouts, and why he moved from Alaska to NM. Super kind guy. Oh yeah, and it's also a gas station. . You already know I had to pull over! From the moment I walked into Bowlin's Aleka Flats, the staff greeted me with genuine warmth. The store itself is such a fun place to browse--filled with unique Southwestern treasures like shirts, ponchos, serapes, moccasins, souvenirs, and so much more. Even if you only come for the cookies, you'll probably end up wandering the aisles for a bit. Speaking of cookies... I could see the staff constantly rotating fresh batches, so I knew they weren't sitting around getting stale. I also appreciated that they offered options with and without nuts. We ended up grabbing a dozen because, let's be honest, the price made it an easy decision. Individual cookies are just $0.99 each, but a dozen is only $9. We picked up six original chocolate chip, three sugar pecan, and three chocolate chip pecan cookies. One thing that stood out was watching the employee preparing the cookies while wearing gloves. It's a small detail, but it shows they take pride in food handling and cleanliness, and I always notice those things. The staff was incredibly friendly and even thanked me for stopping by... even though cookies were literally the only reason I came in. And yes, I'm on a road trip, so don't judge me! My kiddos thanked me the second they took their first bite, and that was all the confirmation I needed. These cookies were soft, chewy, fresh, and absolutely worth the stop. If you're driving through, do yourself a favor and pull over. Grab a dozen--you'll thank yourself later. I'll definitely be making this one of my regular road-trip cookie stops!
