"Taste of New Mexico on N Mangum in Durham" Came here for brunch on a Sunday at 11:20am. It's an unassuming bright little restaurant with parking and outdoor seating in the back. You order at the counter, get a number, and then get your food delivered to your table. I ordered the green chile chicken enchiladas with "Christmas" (red & green) sauce. My girlfriend got the veggie breakfast burrito and the hibiscus fruit punch. Food came in maybe 10-15 minutes. The portion size for the enchiladas was quite large, with a generous helping of rice & beans and big dollops of sour cream and guacamole, with some pico de gallo on the side. It was absolutely delicious, though I will note it was at the high end of my heat/ spice tolerance. Great flavors melded together in cheesy amazingness. My girlfriend liked her burrito too. The fruit punch was a bit strong in both sweetness and tartness but tasty nonetheless. Service was friendly, and the restaurant, including restroom, was clean. A bit noisy/ crowded, but to be expected when there's a good product. Overall, definitely want to go back, and highly recommend. My girlfriend lived in New Mexico for 11 years and she says this is the real deal too. Check it out! read more

I was born and raised in Northern New Mexico and this food brought back find memories. I got the wet burrito Christmas style ( green and red sauce). The red sauce is clearly house made, and remandes me of the red sauce made by my mom. It has a bit of heat with I lived. The green sauce was. Miller, but had that Hatch green chile flavor. The service was great, very personable . The restaurant is nice, reminds me if a place you'd find in Santa Fe. I live in California now, but I will be back!! read more

Cute little burrito spot with a moderate/decent amount of indoor seating. If they're busy, I'd imagine you'd have to take it to go. Parking is also decent, there's lots in the back and across the side street. The burritos were delicious, albeit spicy, which, I guess, should've been obvious! They held together pretty well, near the end I needed a plate, fork and knife to finish it. Everything was well cooked and spiced. If you get it smothered, it adds even more cheesey, goodness to the burrito. Service was excellent! Very friendly and accommodating staff. Food came out quickly. Although I'll likely not go back because I'm a spicy wimp, I still respect what they've created and highly recommend this place of youre in the mood for a little taste of New Mexico! read more

Originally from New Mexico this is the closest thing to being home! The food was amazing! The green Chile sauce would qualify for any NM diner. Thank you for bringing the SW to this area of the country. The service was great! Everyone was pleasant. Enjoyed talking with the owner and finding out her love for New Mexico cuisine. I've heard such great things about Hatch Burritos that I had to try! We ordered takeout - the burritos were ready in their pickup warming box. Easy pickup. There is side street parking but it does seem kind of tough if it is busy. The restaurant itself was a great space with a lot of people occupying different tables. Great place to meet up with a friend and have a quick bite. We ordered the adovada burrito and steak lunch burrito. One word: wow. Everything was so delicious! This was my third visit to Hatch Burritos on North Mangum Street, and each experience has been better than the last. I usually order takeout, but this time I decided to dine in. The space is bright and clean, although it still feels a little sparse as they settle into their new location. Because the kitchen is fairly open next to the dining area, the mixer was at times quite loud and overpowered the upbeat Latin music. However, they also have a fun little outdoor seating area in the back. There is street parking out front, but also a good-sized parking lot in back. I ordered the steak and egg burrito, and it did not disappoint! The steak was tender, flavorful, and had just the right amount of spice from the green chiles. It paired especially well with the roasted peppers and tomatoes. The eggs are light and fluffy. I was also pleased to see they had a nice assortment of hot sauces, including several of my favorites. The have Little Waves brewed coffee which was on point. Hatch is a casual counter-service restaurant: you order and pay at the counter, the staff bring your food to the table, and you bus your own dishes afterward. The time has finally come, and Hatch has opened a brick-and-mortar you can swing by anytime (well Tuesday-Sunday for breakfast and lunch)! I've been getting their breakfast burritos since the Accordion Club, and I'm just thrilled for them to have a permanent space and a larger offering! When you walk in the front, you're greeted by the bright, airy, and spacious indoor seating and you'll immediately see the ordering counter. They have a community table towards the back by the bathrooms and outdoor seating through the back door. There is parking behind the building though I haven't had issues finding street parking out front either. Now onto the food! Hatch specializes in New Mexican food with their breakfast burritos being their most well-known specialty. I've tried all of them over the years, and you really can't go wrong with any of them. The "new" burritos at their location are HUGE and definitely shareable, which is so reasonable for the price. You can get their burritos "smothered" and plated. They also have soups, chips and guac, desserts, and beverages. So happy to add Hatch to our regular rotation! read more

This businesss has a cult following from various popups around Durham. Happy to see they have a new brick and mortar. Stopped by on the opening weekend and their full menu was not available yet, but the breakfast burritos definitely were. They are delicious with the right amount of hatch pepper kick. Eventual full menu will include pancakes, stew, and lunch burritos. Decor is pretty sparse for now but will probably change soon. You order at the counter and they call out your name when ready. Place was already packed when we went but we still got our burritos quicker than we thought. We'll be back. read more

We tried to order breakfast burritos for pick up ahead of time and a weekend, and the earliest available wasn't until later in the day! Luckily, there wasn't much of a crowd when we showed up shortly after they opened at 9, and we were able to order and get our food quickly. People began trickling in while we waited for the burritos, and once we started eating, we understood the popularity. The pork in the adovada was tender and flavorful. The veggie burrito was great with the right amount of spice from the green chile. The kids burro was sizable and was honestly something I might order for myself in the future with just simple burrito goodness. I can't wait to go back to check out the lunch options. read more

As a SoCal native, I've been looking for a great breakfast burrito and so far, I think this is my top contender! The menu is small but everything is really well done. The sausage breakfast burrito was great and I would go back and get it again. The people who work there are incredibly friendly and are so excited for people to come try their food! While it is off of downtown, parking is not hard to find around this establishment. West coast folks should definitely come out and try it! read more

So I'll start off by saying that I grew up in New Mexico. The carne adovada is on point. It is tender and has the right earthy-smoky flavor from the red chile (yes, that is how you spell it - if you spell it chili, you're eating a bowl of meat made in Texas). A must-eat if you're coming for breakfast or lunch! The staff and owner are super friendly. Here's what I call my "even better if..." remarks: I wish they had sopapillas on the menu. That would be rock-solid New Mexico food! You could stuff one with their delicious carne adovada and smother it in green chile and have great comfort food. You could also have sopapillas as dessert with honey. The green chile is good, but not great. There's a hint of lime in what is served, which is not my top preference. I prefer New Mexico green chile as a sauce made with a rue with white onions, vegetable, chicken, or beef stock; garlic, and of course, Hatch green chiles. I definitely will be back and look forward to seeing what else they do! read more

tried several times to see about the pork stew. Finally got it. Spice and quality of meat was excellent. It is clearly not Santa Fe/Colorado quality Verde. Much brothier and less heft than normal for a stew....felt more like a good try at a soup...I was told it was 16 oz, clearly less and expensive ($17) for the small portion they delivered.
