omakase
Clarisse T.

pretty mid sushi :/ so i'm guessing maybe those bento set is better. the toro roll thing is not good at all unfortunately. out of everything we ordered, omakase was the most worth it of all. :/ service was good and i'd come back to try the bento set.

I had a chance to try Haru recently and enjoyed the experience. The service here was fast and the ambiance is cute inside. We sat outside given we had a 5 month old, but enjoyed the experience nonetheless. For food we tried: * Wagyu gozen set - this was absolutely divine with rich meat, rice, and bunch of sides. Some of my favorites were the fish tempura, scallops & asparagus in a yummy sauce. It also comes with 2 pieces of fresh sashimi. For the price, honestly this set is a steal. The variety is amazing and the meal comes together perfectly * miso cod set - this was delicious and came with a light fish which was absolutely soft and melt in your mouth. The sides were the same and were nice * Hama toro roll - this was very yummy and full of fresh fish, on the pricier side but super worth it! Overall, we had a nice experience and would go back!

This was our first time going to Haru and we had such a wonderful experience. We went on a Thursday early evening around 5:30pm. Even though, we didn't have a reservation, the waiters seated us at the bar so quickly! Even at the bar, the service did not stop there - they frequently checked on us and explained every dish. We got four dishes between both of us and definitely did not expect the big portions! We were so full and satisfied by the end of the meal. All the fresh was so fresh. I do not think there was anything that missed the mark. The waiter/waitress would explain what fish we were eating and what small dishes were on the tray. Would 100% go back!!

Gozen set with wagyu

Went for Friday lunch with the purpose of using our Amex Resy credits. We had a reservation but seemed like walk-ins were fine too. It did get packed pretty quickly. Food: Fried chicken wings 5/5 - this was a great start to the meal. Freshly fried with a light batter and great flavors, though a bit on the sweeter side due to the sauce. I liked that they separated the wing to 1 bone per piece to make it easier to eat. Gozen set with wagyu 4.5/5 - my husband got this and thought it was great. The small sides were interesting and added variety even if he didn't love them all. We joked that it's like an ANA/JAL business class meal Toro ikura uni don 3.5/5 - I initially wanted to get the gozen set with miso cod and an upgraded rice bowl, but I couldn't decide between toro and uni so I got this instead. Unfortunately, I regretted this for several reasons. One, I didn't realize the toro was minced - I really think they should specify that on the menu. Plus it just ended up being very monotonous and salty/fishy as some kaisendons can be. This part might be personal preference but I think I would've preferred the variety of a gozen set. It just really was not that enjoyable for $68. I ate half and took the rest to go. Service: This was somewhat of a mixed bag. Overall good with a few notable hiccups. The waiter who took our order wasn't the warmest or most patient when I had a question. I also waited a long time for my meal after my husband got his. We had to ask them to check on mine and it turned out that it was ready but just sitting on the counter. So all in all, would we return? I'm not sure. But if we did, it would mainly be for the gozen set.

Haru means "spring" in Japanese! Truly enjoy the lunch here. Nested on slow-paced downtown Los Altos, the well-designed vibe, the perfect set with fresh ingredients. It's above and beyond my expectations. Will revisit it soon!

Cute spot in Los Altos for lunch. Kid friendly with their own utensils and high chairs. We all got some variation of the bento and everything was fresh. Quite a bit of food but worth the price point. Staff is very friendly and were really nice to our babies.

Saw this spot on IG and decided to come for lunch. I came here knowing it was opened by the same group behind Hinata and Sasa in SF, so I was curious to see what they would do with this space, and I was not disappointed. The menu has a great range of options and I thought the pricing was quite reasonable for the quality. I would say though, the offerings is similar to Sasa - so if you've been before, you can expect the same quality. We ordered two drinks, gyoza, a roll and the cod and a Wagyu set, and all the items hit the mark for us. I also appreciated the variety on the menu from sushi to sets to a la carte items. There are plenty of options depending on what you're in the mood for, which makes this an easy place to come back to and try something different each time. The service was attentive and friendly, and the restaurant has a polished but comfortable atmosphere that makes it feel appropriate for both a casual dinner and a nicer night out. Really good food and great value for the quality.

Wagyu gozen set and sashimi

Really enjoyed our meal at Haru! We ordered two dishes and split both between two people. It was the perfect amount and everything felt fresh, clean, and satisfying. // Wagyu Gozen Set Their gozen sets seem to be a popular choice here. It's essentially a full set with your choice of protein, rice, and an assortment of pickled side dishes. The wagyu was so tender and juicy! It had that buttery texture you want from wagyu without feeling overly rich or heavy. I also really enjoyed all the different side dishes. Each one was unique, and the acidity from the pickled vegetables paired especially well with the richness of the meat. // 12-Piece Chef Sashimi Everything tasted incredibly fresh, and there was a great variety of fish. I'm usually not a huge tuna person, but fresh, high-quality tuna makes such a difference. Really enjoyed every piece! Overall, such a clean and satisfying meal for lunch. Service was also fast and friendly. There's sushi bar seating or regular tables although it seems the tables are harder to get without a reservation. Would definitely come back! I'm interested in trying their omakase.

Wow! Can't believe i'd never heard of or tried this place. Found it on Resy and decided to give it a try. We walked in from the back and were greeted right away by chefs. Got seated at a booth and service was very prompt and detailed with the menus- let us know all the nigiri specials and pointed out things on the menu we could order. It feels very fancy and elevated inside. The AC felt so good, it being hot outside. They have a decent number of booths as well as small 2 seater tables and then plenty of bar seating. We got the agedashi tofu for appetizer, the cucumber mocktail, and and old fashioned to start and i got the omakase (included uni) along with miso black cod. Wow everything tasted AMAZING and LOOKED amazing! Like my omakase was an art work, and even the miso cod was beautifully presented and the cocktails were vibrant and tasty. We also ended the night with black sesame ice cream and it was nice and hard (how i like it) and had a really great flavor. Overall highly recommend and def want to come back!

Lunch for 2. - Ambiance (4*) Neatly decorated. Cozy. - Service (3*) Pacing slightly off. Shrimp head arrived after dessert. - House of Jin Cocktail, $18 (5*) Just the slightest hint of green tea, yet the whole drink maintained a clear color. Pretty cool. And very tasty. Japanese minimalism personified. - Wagyu Gozen w/ Uni Ikura Don, $78 (4*) Meat was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Uni Ikura Don was good. The tempura whitefish side was super delicate and tasty. Everything else felt kind of like an afterthought. - Ocean Trout Belly Nigiri, $8 (5*) Slightly seared. Dressed perfectly. Good rice. - King Salmon Belly Nigiri, $9 (5*) Same as above. - Black Sesame Ice Cream, $5 (3*) Clearly pre-portioned and frozen in the cup itself. Flavor was amazing, but it was off putting to see it frozen to the bottom of the cup, losing ice cream texture. - Value (3*) Probably would have been 4* if I had only ordered the Wagyu Gozen on its own rather than with the upgraded Uni Ikura Don, which ruined the value. - Final Word Pretty good experience overall. Will be back to try the Omakase. With cleaned up service and maybe smarter ordering on my part, this could be close to a 5*.

Minor issue (putting in front hoping the owner notices): at least two of the fried wings were undercooked. We decided to take the rest home so that they could be cooked more while reheating . ---- A Japanese restaurant somewhere between saucy rolls and luxury omakase ... exactly what I need in Los Altos! We enjoyed everything we ordered (including the wings once reheated ). I won't rave about the wagyu or nigiris 'cuz every Yelper already did ... But I can't stop thinking about the takowasa (raw octopus in wasabi sauce)! It's so weird but pleasantly punchy. I haven't had it many times before and am now hooked. Came down to pre-tax $100 per person (we each ordered one drink). Very reasonable for the freshness, techniques, and amount of food. I can see myself either bringing friends (with good taste! ) here or stopping by for a lone fancy lunch, quite frequently!

Date of Visit: 8/1/2026 We visited the Haru Los Altos for lunch on a Saturday early afternoon for lunch. Four adults and two babies can fit in a four person dining table space. The server was nice and attentive, and bought us two highchairs to fit the table. Kani Chawanmushi $16 We got the chawanmushi with snow crab. The steamed egg was very soft and tender, with snow crab mushrooms and dashi sauce inside. Highly recommended. Wagyu Gozen Set $38 Husband got the wagyu gozen set, which includes seven small bites with miso soup and rice. The wagyu was cooked medium rare, seasoned with black pepper and salt and a piece of lemon. The seven bites includes tempura, sashimi, grilled eggplant, seaweed, asparagus and seafood. Toro Ikura Uni Don $68 I got the toro ikura uni over rice with sweet and fresh uni on the middle, and salmon roe and fatty tuna on both sides next to the uni. There were also mushroom, menma next to the rice. Wagyu Sando $42 Our friend got the wagyu sandwich with miso katsu sauce.

Happy to see a new Japanese spot in downtown Los Altos and happier it is not another omakase spot. Haru took over the former Bevri and specializes in gozen. They have two dry-aging fridges which the sushi chefs use to add a more unique flavor to their fish. They also have a variety of non seafood options including burgers. We had a decent experience as we enjoyed the food but service was choppy which they apologized and made up for. Hopefully things smooth out as we look forward to coming again soon.

I've come with friends as well as with my mom, and the food is always fresh and consistently good. Surprisingly, we've had at least two servers who do! She'll happily chat with them in Japanese and tell them about how she lived in Japan when she was young. It's always fun to watch her make that connection. Sumika is very popular, so I usually recommend making a reservation, even for lunch. On weekends, there can be quite a line. My favorite item from them isn't even one of the skewers, but the oyako don which is my favorite Item here. It's so good. One of our most memorable bites was the A5 wagyu. It's grilled on a Japanese charcoal which added a nice smokey flavor to the juicy pieces of wagyu. The kisu tempura was also very delicious and as always, the nigiri's were *chefs kiss*. Each piece of nigiri was perfectly seasoned and incredibly well balanced.
