Stay away from this company! Way overpriced and lack practical knowledge and expertise. We hired them in the spring '25 and they failed to recognize a fungal disease that was infecting 7 trees instead blaming it on "typical winter damage." After spending several hundred dollars on fertilizer treatments and more than a thousand dollars on pruning, the trees likely need to be replaced (see the picture below and decide for yourself whether you would hire this crew). The company representative had the audacity to blame the situation on me suggesting that I should have contacted them earlier. Terrible way to treat customers, especially when this company is so expensive. Terrible service, terrible quality and even worse value. We did a walk around our yard with an associate from the business. We decided to do business with them. Their crew did the work that was agreed upon. The yard was cleaned up when finished. But we never heard from anyone at the business asking us if we were satisfied with the job. At the time we were fairly satisfied but there were some areas that we felt weren't done as well as we wanted. For the price we paid for the work we didn't feel we got our monies worth. The arborist cut off a major branch on a dogwood tree creating a huge gap in the middle of the tree. The removed branch left sunlight into a shade garden. The branches hanging over the rose garden bed should have been pruned to allow sun on the roses, but that did not happen. Some of the debris from the job was left around. read more

We responded to their cold letter and scheduled an estimate along with other tree services we have used as well as on the Angie's list. Their quote falls in the middle range. We chose them because we like their proactive approaches and have seen their work in our neighborhood. Dan patiently work with us revising the quote many times as we narrow down the scope and the specifics of the work. Everything went very well. My husband had a question about the job afterwards. He emailed Dan and received a speedy reply. Dan even came by a few days later to review the work with my husband to make sure that we are happy. They were not the least expensive, but certainly the most defensive. Did not stand by their work and had a very caviler attitude to damage caused by excessive pruning. A tree died and others in tough condition. The problems with this company are too numerous to list. Russell was totally disconnected and could not care, elevated issue to Joshua and he was in defense mode. I've dealt with many contractors --- my advice stay far away from this group. I hired a landscaping company to prune trees including an elder statesman of an oak . They looked again and said no way. Call Hartney Greymont! HG carefully took down a split limb and trimmed many dead branches throughout the tree. I believe that tree will thrive for many years thanks to their good work. The team was focused, polite and took care of all debris. Kevin N. and the rest of the Hartney crew were honest in their assessment of the cost and the time on site. They listened to our desires and provided helpful guidance in shaping preventative care for this year and years to come. They were courteous and even went above and beyond leaving some cut wood for our fireplace after they required an added day on site due to mechanical issues. Last week I had the area around my yard sprayed to eradicate ticks. Although it was only the first treatment of three, we've already seen a significant reduction in the number of ticks and mosquitoes (great bonus!). Pat Boyle was incredibly patient explaining the process and answering my questions about the process. I'm sure there are less expensive companies that say they'll come and get rid of the ticks, but I wanted to have the best company and the best treatment, not the cheapest. We all fall for that once in our life. You don't want to take the cheapest estimate when you're dealing with ticks and the diseases they carry. Also I don't want to scare people away, I'm not saying that they are expensive, just that they aren't going to be the least expensive. I'm confident that I made the right choice and that my family (and dogs) will be safe this tick season. Call them if you want to protect your family too! We just had the second application, and it's even better for my dogs and has all but gotten rid of the mosquitoes on my deck. Just as Pat told me, the second treatment was even more effective.
