I would absolutely recommend Reid to anyone needing an inspection. This guy went above and beyond…read morethe call of duty. Actually, more like below and beyond! Let me explain: the seller is out of the country and hired a contractor to put a new deck on the house before selling. Apparently the contractor built the deck over the crawl space entrance, leaving no clear access to the space. This meant we would have to have the seller hire a new deck guy and then have the inspection be completed at a different date. This would have derailed our entire closing timeline. Instead of letting all that happen, without saying a word, Reid suited up and found a way to shimmy through the small opening to get under the house. And he found a bunch of issues that needed attention! Thank goodness he did that! I even tried to tip him for his efforts and he wouldn't accept. Class act, this guy! Not only was he completely thorough and went beyond the call of duty, he also sent us a 41 page report outlining everything in detail so we know what's going on with the house. He also sent a summary report highlighting what was in the longer report. Really fantastic! And if you're extra nice, maybe he will let you meet his brilliant dog. :)

Given the other reviews, maybe I just got Reid on an "off" day. The day of the inspection, I was…read morereally happy with his focus and the amount of information he provided me with, but I was very disappointed when I got the written report. There was plumbing under the house that had been cut out (bank owned and not secured so some plumbing and electrical were ripped out) but he didn't take any pictures of it, or even include it in the report. We requested he amend the report, and he did, but did not even apologize for not including this important issue in the first place. He told us that there was a likely leak or break in the water main but did not include it in the report. When asked to add it to the report, he did not. I get the feeling that he was speculating and did not want to document this?? If he felt it was important enough to tell us about it, it should go in the report as well. At the end of the inspection he told me I would not find anything substantial in the report that we did not discuss during the inspection. The report included multiple items (such as unsupported floor beams) that were not brought to my attention during the inspection. It was extremely important to have a thorough written report in order to request repairs from the bank. We had to request multiple revisions of the inspection report and in my opinion, that should not have happened.

He does a very complete inspection. He emailed me the report the same day. It is very useful since I know what projects to work on first. He is an expert. He spent over 4 hours at my house yesterday and i feel so relieved that I know the condition of my house. His work is exceptional.

I think I'm still in shock over my experience with J…read more I could tell you about how this guy gave me an in-depth home inspection while I was out-of-state that made me feel like I was right there the whole time. 100% felt like that was some of the best money I've ever spent. I could tell you how he -- completely unsolicited --offered to walk through the report in person with me whenever I got into Washington for the home sale. But Y'ALL. Let me tell you instead how I called this guy nearly TWO YEARS AFTER THE INSPECTION in a panic during the last big freeze when an exterior hose bib failed. Why? Because a) the water company had come through and updated the water meter, changing the look of the main shut-off (rendering my limited experience with the valve totally useless), and b) no plumber would come out, since they were responding to 19,383,629 other freeze-related emergencies. I expected NOTHING from this guy at this point: it was the hailiest of Hail Mary's. Instead, I got a quick "I'm on my way" from him. WHAT?!? When he got there, found another shut-off, and kept me from going without water (and my house from floating away on its own plumbing-failure river), my shriveled little Grinchy heart DID grow three sizes that day! J is good people doing good work. I will never work with anyone else for home inspections.

Don is the best. Thorough, ethical and no nonsense…read more I have referred Don dozens of times to clients. He provides tons of information other inspectors will not. He is a fountain of information such as the age, life expectancy and proper use and maintenance of dozens of systems and appliances. Beyond just what is broken and in need of replacement, he provides homeowners with information to maintain the value of their homes over time. He also takes the time (or more accurately his wife takes the time) to provide a thorough written report with photos to help document anything of interest. I couldn't recommend Don more highly. He is always my first call after one of my buyers comes under contract.

The longer I've been in my house the more I'm amazed at how much was missed on the inspection. This…read morewas a pre inspection from the seller. I was the buyer...so I of course have no recourse. He missed electrical tape covering a very corroded drain stack. His picture of the drain stack conveniently didn't include the corroded part. He said no issues with the chimney although there a multiple issues, (with both chimneys in my house) including a completely rotten support beam in the crawl space, failing mortar, and significant damage to the furnace chimney. Although he is not a mason he should have been able to recognize these signs of failure...and if he has no ability to recognize if their are issues with a chimney he should not say in his report "no issues with the chimney" Then some more minor things...sinks not secured to the walls...leaking drain under the kitchen sink. Those things aren't a huge deal but definitely speaks to lack of attention to detail. Everyday I hold my breath thinking about what other major issue that is If you are a seller looking for a pre inspection that doesn't point out some major problems then this is your guy. But if you are buying don't trust his report.

We hired Chris Honingford to conduct an inspection for the condo we were buying. Upon moving into…read morethe condo, we learned that the toilet was not secured the the floor. The bolts were completely stripped because the flange had been broken. There is no way Chris should have missed this. He claims he checked the toilet to see if it wobbled, but he obviously didn't. If he had, he would have discovered it was completely loose from the floor. We also learned the day we moved in that the 3-month-old water heater was leaking. That had be replaced as well. The bathroom faucet was also leaking and had to be replaced. Normally, I'd give Chris the benefit of the doubt and assume the water heater and faucet weren't leaking when he inspected it, but considering he missed something so obvious as the toilet, I'm not so sure. Our realtor (who recommended Chris) reached out to him about this, and he offered no recompense whatsoever. We had to buy a new toilet and have it installed. This was incredibly expensive. These problems were annoying and expensive to fix, but at least they weren't life threatening. Next time he might miss something more serious, like a gas leak. I'd recommend going elsewhere for your inspections. The fact he had no desire to make any effort to try to make this right should also give you pause. UPDATE: After Chris's complete unwillingness to do anything to make this situation right, I filed a complaint to the Attorney General's office, in the hopes of saving other people from a situation like this. Chris's response to the AG was to claim the plumber we hired was "inventing work". He doubled down on his claim that he checked the toilet, even though our realtor shared video we took with him showing how loose the toilet was. Anyone can make a mistake; that's forgivable. But you own up to it and do what you can to make it right. Lying about it and trying to pass the blame to other innocent parties is inexcusable.
