I can't recommend David Tearle and Step By Step Home Inspections enough. I own Rainier Roofing Company and we replace roofs all the time for new home owners who are blindsided by needing a new roof after their inspection report said it had plenty of life left on it. That will never happen with David. He has taken the time to establish a relationship with me so he can serve his clients better. He regularly sends me photos and asks questions when he is inspecting roofs to make sure he can adequately inform a future home owner of what they are walking into. This is very rare. If you are in the process of buying or selling and need to have your home inspected, David is your guy. I suspect he has a number of other tradesman in his tool belt that he uses as well. read more

David at Step By Step Home Inspections did a phenomenal job. My wife and I literally today had a home we are looking at purchasing inspected by David and absolutely great. Here are a few stand out reasons why you should consider David/Step by Step Home Inspections for your home inspections: 1. Verified state license, so he's not a hack. 2. Arrived on time, actually a little early to prepare. 3. Documents as he works. 4. Exceptionally thorough and takes time to explain and show things. 5. Very proficient at building codes, regulations, things of that nature and the history of them. 6. Timely reporting - Same day. 7. Rate is competitive, actually less than other home inspectors we looked at. 8. Did not appear like he short-changed any part of the inspection process. 9. Talks to you at a level you can understand, especially if you're a first time home buyer. Simple plain language. Overall, the superb work by David makes you feel very exceptionally well informed and that you really paid for a quality service, educated and well informed to make the right home buying decision. As first time home buyers who were purchasing a home all the way from the east coast, we had a lot of uncertainty to navigate in determining if the home we wanted was a good fit. David was an excellent inspector who alleviated all the concerns we had when it came to the quality and condition of the property. He brings years of experience and an attention to detail that is essential to the inspection process and making sure your home is a good investment. He was also very clear at communicating and answering the many questions we had as people who are new to this process. Finally, he was communicative from end to end and the final written report was incredibly detailed (with both detailed explanations, a briefer summarized report, and labeled images and diagrams that made it easy for us to review and remember what we needed to follow up on). I would highly recommend working with David! read more

The Seattle home buying process isn't easy and as a result it's taken a while for us to find the right home. We've worked with a few other inspectors and I can honestly say we're happy to have found David. We've used him twice now and will continue to when/if needed. David is the guy who will get on the roof and look at how everything was installed. He'll get into the crawl space with his hazmat suit to truly understand if there are any problems. He's able to dive deep into homes, identify problems, and explain them in non-industry terms. Highly recommended for any inspection services! read more

I've referred David many times for my clients. He is prompt, thorough and professional. As a real estate agent I need to trust the inspection will cover all bases and that the info will be communicated in a way that is in the best interest of the client. That means big ticket items are covered in detail along with estimates of the costs associated with fixing them. Other small items should be covered along with the ease of fixing them. I would recommend David for my friends and family if they were looking to buy a home. read more

David was professional, friendly, and thorough from the beginning of my first phone call asking for a quote to the end of the inspection. Found Dave on Amazon Services. Dave responded within minutes, quoted me a very reasonable price over the phone (which I was able to pay by credit card), and took on very short notice a condo home inspection. Dave was punctual and professional. He was very detailed, meticulous, organized, and diligent. The home inspection lasted a little over 1-hr. Dave was very thorough and took the time to include me along his inspection. He shared his observations with me, good or bad. Dave also delivered the home inspection report that same day, within less than 12 hours of conducting the home inspection. It was very detailed and I was able to use the report to get the seller to make renovations/repairs before closing. Highly recommend Dave for your home inspections! read more

David was very quick, friendly and professional. A pleasure to work with for my home purchase inspection.

I saw the positive reviews and then checked out Step-by-Step's website before giving David a call. He was friendly, approachable, and was able to schedule around our timeline needs. In addition, we reviewed the price for his service and it was right down the middle for the industry average and more than fair. On the day of the inspection, he arrived a few minutes early of the appointment and introduced himself. He asked questions as well as answered them and took extra care around our specific concerns. Afterwards, he went through a verbal debriefing with us that confirmed his deep knowledge and extensive experience. We even got the complete written report the same day as the inspection! I would not hesitate to give a full and complete recommendation to anyone who needs a home inspected. read more

We had the chance to work with David twice through my agent this year, and are very glad that we did. He pays a lot of attention to details, shows up on time and is very pleasant to work with. After the inspection, he answers all our questions and address our concerns by providing a list of suggested repairs. The report is also very thorough. read more
