I currently work at Harter bakery as a sales associate. I've been working here for the past 2 and 1/2 years (also working at multiple other jobs on and off) and can honestly say it's a great place to work. My coworkers and I really care about the customers and we do everything we can to make customers happy. Of course there are times when things go wrong; occasionally order tickets go missing or have some sort of minor issue, but what business doesn't? We do the best we can, and we do a pretty great job. Our store is clean, our baked goods are fresh, and the employees actually care about the customers. That's not something I can say for my other jobs. Every single cake is so moist and light it melts in your mouth and the icing is always outstanding with a perfect consistency and flavor. Harter's has consistently provided delicious cakes (and more items too) for our parties over the years. Never anything less than highly satisfied. Most recently I requested a double-decker cookie cake, which they were glad to make special for me. It was seriously the best tasting cookie cake any of us have ever had. I stumbled upon Harter Bakery for my wedding cake about a year ago. We were trying to have a simple outdoor wedding and were footing the bill ourselves. (Anyone who has had a simple wedding probably knows that it turns out to be not so simple and way more expensive than you planned) Anyway, Harter's price for their basic, three tiered cake was way less than any competitors' (including my usual fave MacArthurs's) We were pleasantly surprised by the many options we were offered. They suggested that we get extra flowers from the florist to match my bouquet and place them on the cake. (They charge to do it themselves) We chose to have a different flavor for each tier; red velvet, chocolate, and vanilla cake. Each was delicious, and the cake turned out beautiful! They did have plenty of cake options for those who are not going the simple route also, btw. The staff was extremely helpful and really worked with our pricing needs and preferences. One of the things i missed wheni moved out to jefferson county so many years ago was the plentiful access to good bakeries. So, after we did move someone told us to try out Harters, and boy did we ever find one of the better places here in the metro area. I absolutely love their donuts and cakes. I was craving for a good donut, and I decided to try this out as it is closer to my house. The staff was all smiles and seems friendly. We got some long John's and wanted to try their Baklava. I was a disappointed, as I was expecting a little more. The donut was airy and it was just okay. Dunkin's way better. The Baklava, I can't taste any of the nuts in it but it was just plain sweet. It's like eating a teaspoon of pure sugar. I might go back just to give it one more try, but not more than likely soon. I have to be really really desperate enough.... read more

Harter Bakery is a great find! I was in a bind needing a cake for my son's birthday party the next day! I was able to call them at 5:45 am place my order for the cake was guaranteed it would be ready by 2pm on Friday! The customer service was very nice and accommodating. When I picked up the cake, the service was fantastic, actually they waited until I arrived to write the message on the cake so that it wouldn't interfere with the figurines I was adding! I got married at Andre's West in Fenton, and part of my wedding package included a cake from Harter Bakery. We ordered a 4-tier with vanilla and chocolate cake and it was the best wedding cake I have ever had. We had compliments from all of the guests about how delicious and moist it was. Very Disappointed with their pastries. the whipped cream filled eclairs were not real whip cream. Tasted pasty, and more like a hardened merangue, only not sweet. The cannoli didn't taste right either. having been married to a baker in Chicago for a number of years,, I know what pastries should taste like, and this wasn't it. read more

Worst cake and customer service!!!! Ordered a cake for my daughters birthday . When I served it to my guests . No one was eating it when I asked what was wrong I was told the cake was no cooked in the center, at the same time my daughter pulled three long black hairs from cake . Gross!!!! Called the bakery they told me to bring cake in . Went in and was told the baker tasted it and it was fine. I told the woman 5 different people tried and its not cooked. The "very rude owner came out and started telling me she baked it and worked very hard on the cake, (she had long black hair) and it was fine! But she offered me a dozen doungnuts. I was introduced to Harters Bakery about 8 years ago. They make custom cut out/ decorated cookies They are truly a piece of art and they taste amazing. They are very a special treat .Iv'e had them made for baptisms, ,first communions, graduatio nandI recently had some made for my daughters sorority in KY. She provided samples and searched for a picture to be sure we were going to get what we wanted. I stopped at Harter's Bakery today, Saturday, Dec. 21st, 2013, for cupcakes. They had them in packages of 6 cupcakes, but each package had 3 chocolate cupcakes and 3 yellow cupcakes. I only wanted yellow cupcakes and ask them if they could repackage them, since they had 3 or 4 packages of 6 cupcakes, each with 3 chocolate and 3 yellow cupcakes, and sell me 6 yellow cupcakes. This young girl said no. I told her other clerks had repackaged them for me before, but again she said no. I usually go into Harter's Bakery once a week for half dozen of cupcakes and I had never been waited on or seen this person before. She was very young, and had no business working with the public. I said "well, I guess I will have to go somewhere else" and she replied "yes, I guess you will" Terrible customer service, especially during the holiday season. No random act of kindness at Harter Bakery. I doubt that I walk back into Harter Bakery again. read more
