U-Haul of Scotch Plains - Damage done to my vehicle by UHaul hitch installers.

U-Haul of Scotch Plains

I purchased a new vehicle on Friday. Today (Tuesday) I brought it to UHaul of Scotch Plains to have…read morea hitch and wiring harness installed. Everything seemed to go well with the install, but when I arrived at home and looked more closely, I saw that my rear hatch had been both dented in one place and badly scratched in another. Having just carefully inspected the car when purchasing it, I knew that it was pristine when I brought it in. Now, mistakes happen and anyone can drop a heavy part and do damage. That happens. The real problem is that the UHaul of Scotch Plains staff hid the damage from me and just expected that I wouldn't notice it. That kind of dishonestly and untrustworthy behavior means that anyone who does business at this location needs to watch everything the employees do and double check all of their work. That can get exhausting, so I just recommend you go elsewhere.

Horrible place. I always get my propane tank filled here and never have a problem before, but I…read morewent today and the scruffy looking employee wearing dirty clothing refused to fill my tank and told me that it "expired" years ago. After telling him I've never had an issue before, and his employees filled it as recently as July he called me a liar. He then told me he would have to charge me $120 for a new tank. His language and price gouging are both unacceptable and UHaul should be embarrassed that their employees are allowed to behave this way to long term customers.

The corner of the parking lot has a quarter-operated vacuum and air machine for tires. Employees are usually pleasant to deal with, but gas prices here are astronomical--the highest within the zip code--and currently $0.35/gallon more expensive than the least expensive gasoline options in Middlesex County!

The odd thing about this review is that it is probably a five star place, but the one thing that…read morekeep the ratting so low is the fact that the gas prices are through the roof. If you live close to here and you want to fill up on gas I would recommend going to one of the stations on Oak Tree Road or Plainfield Ave because they are much cheaper. That being said, there are always cars here waiting to get gas, so I guess they hit the market they wanted to (locals who don't want to drive out of their way to get gas). This place also has a convenience store inside, which is nice because you can fill up on snacks before you head out on the road or you can pick up a newspaper and a coffee on Sunday morning. They have a decent selection of snacks and drinks as well as coffee and pastries. The people who work at this place are very nice and most are local to the area, so it really has a neighborhood feel to it. They do have a vacuum and a tire pump on the corner, so if you need a quick touch up, you have those available to you. They also have an ice machine, a propane tank holder and a bathroom. Over never used any of those, but they're convenient if you need them. In all, this is a nice gas station with friendly workers and a convenience store, but you will be detracted from coming here because of he outrageous prices of gas. I recommend going here for the snacks and a coffee and waiting to fill up until you get to a cheaper place a mile or so up the road.
