My husband and I wanted a retractable awning for our backyard. In 2015, we decided to go with a…read moresmall local business, Bayshore Awning to install it for us. They quoted us $3,812.50, which was much higher than other quotes we received from other larger corporate companies. However, since we always try and support local business owners, we agreed. While installing our awning, they negligently forgot to install a rubber bumper. This bumper becomes essential to the structure because it prevents the awning from tearing against the exposed metal screws that were left uncovered. After about a month of using the awning, we realized that the whole thing started to tear, causing a rip from the top all the way to the bottom. This defect was due to the company's negligent installation and carelessness. We called the company on numerous occasions to come out and assess/fix the issue. They took the easy way out by simply putting black electrical tap on the tear. The tape looked absolutely terrible over my light tan striped awning. Over time, the tape would become loose and fall off from natural weather increments, like rain and snow. Now, 7 years later, my awning has multiple rips and tears. Throughout those 7 years, I have called persistently to address this issue, over 20 times. The owner/installer finally decided to answer our calls, came out to my house and proceeded to tell us that our 5-year warranty expired and it would cost us an additional $1,000 to replace the awnings fabric. Even though I tried numerous times to get in touch with the company while the awning was still under warranty, I found it pretty strategic that he finally decided to come out to my house after the warranty had expired. My husband and I are ourselves small business owners. We were appalled by this owner's behavior. We both honestly feel scammed and cheated on. I write this as a WARNING to others in the area, to steer away from using this company at ALL COSTS. Bottom line is that if anyone is looking to find a dependable, reliable who stand by their work and product, my advice, please don't use Bayshore Awning. I will provide their address and email as well! (BAYSHORE AWNING, 21 Bay Avenue in Middletown NJ, 07748 (732) 495-5960) :
