calamari

Note: my 5 stars is relative to the other options in Culebra. If this was a restaurant in another city (like Miami), I would have given a 4 due to the Churrasco being overcooked yet room temperature. However I would ~highly recommend getting seafood~ Given how few food choices there are in Culebra, especially ones that are open past 6pm, I was surprised by how good the food was. ***Calamari: must try! great balance of batter to calamari, crispy on the outside and heavenly tender on the inside Soup: I was in a soup mood and got good soup so no complaints there ***Blackened Shrimp: must try! I am picky about seafood and loved the depth of flavor of the shrimp (not fishy at all) Churrasco: I asked for medium rare but it was more like medium well and it was room temperature. Service and ambiance was good with the A/C and cleanliness.

Fresh Basil Gimlet

This is one of the better restaurants in Culebra. The interior is very nice, everything is new and it is clean. The buñuelos de yuca and bacalao were very good. I loved the fried yellowtail and my the ribs my husband ordered were delicious. I also recommend the Fresh Basil Gimlet with Tito's coktail.

The reviews I read in advance mentioned Harspoons to be a hidden gem. After visiting the other night I definitely concur! Bypass the restaurants near the door k and you will be very happy you did as the food at Harspoons is better and more affordable! When we walked in the bartender was gathering basil out front and the smell was so inviting, it made me order the basil gimlet and I was not disappointed! My husband ordered the coconut mojito and was very happy with it. We split the ceviche, which was flavorful but not served with anything (like chips or tostones) so that was a bit disappointing. I had the churrasco and my husband had the catch of the day - red snapper. Both were great! I added a side of veggies and amarillos and was very happy with my meal. There were far more locals than tourists at Harspoons and it had the vibe of a favorite neighborhood restaurant which was wonderful while on vacation. We were tempted to order dessert even though we were quite full - the chocolate cake with coconut whip cream was very good. Overall, we highly recommend Harspoons and we'll definitely be back if and when we return to Culebra!

Fried green plantains

I'll start with their cocktails. We had their bushwhacker and passion fruit daiquiri - they were super strong and delicious! You definitely shouldn't miss out on them! For the food, we tried calamari, yucca and salty fish balls, ceviche and green plantains - all pretty good but not amazing. Service was friendly. Make reservations so you can get the best table as the restaurant is not big.

Wow!!!! One of our best meals in Culebra. We started with their fresh ginger mule cocktail. It was the perfect combination to any Puerto Rican dish. It was refreshing, gingery and a little fuzzy. Our food was INCREDIBLE. Churrasco was cooked to perfection and was nicely seasoned. It had a bit of a charcoal taste to it. Arroz con habichuelas were a piece of Puerto Rico in your mouth. Wow! The habichuelas had that authentic "abuela" taste to them. Just get them! Mamposteado was also incredible and my husband really enjoyed his avocado stuffed with shrimp.

Foods were great and tasty. Their servings are huge and will literally makes you full all day lol. We ordered: Grilled 16oz porterhouse 7/10 Slowe cooked ribs with mamposteao 8/10 Daiquiris of strawberry Wine

The soup of the day with ginger, carrot and potatoes was fantastic. Not just great seafood but very well seasoned meats. My sons enjoyed the churrasco.

Ceviche, Calamari

We LOVED our meal. This might've been our favorite meal the entire trip. The restaurant had some locals there who were all awesome, and the local dog moxie who was extremely sweet and friendly. Our servers & bartender were great. We didn't make a reservation but were sat quickly.

The food was excellent!! One of the best foods I have tried in whole Puerto Rico! You definitely should try the catch of the day and the ceviche! Those are a most ! As well as the croquettes and mofongo

During our 2 day stay in this tiny island of Culebra we found there was a limited amount of restaurants open (as of April-May 2022), we tried a few on the island but ended up coming to Harspoon's twice because we felt like this exceeded all of our expectations and nothing else tasted as good as it did here and we kept comparing all the seafood we ate back to this place. Friendly staff and chill ambiance in the front room with the bar. Really strong but delicious piña coladas here too!

I had the Argentinian Churrasco. The flavor of chimichurri was perfect on the skirt steak. The mussels were the biggest hit and are still talked about. The prices are very reasonable. We arrived around 8pm and didn't have reservations but we were seated within 5 minutes. We shared the seafood pasta and it was one of the best dishes I've ever had. My friend and I ordered one and split it. I had more than enough for my half portion! I will say service is on island time so don't expect your food to come out quickly. However the staff was wonderful and it was worth the wait! While waiting for our pasta we decided to order the large portion of the muscles. We had more than enough to split as well. The bread they give you to dip into the muscles were crispy but still soft in the middle. Additionally, a side came with the seafood entree. Because we split the entree, we only received one side. My friend had their side salad which she said was heavenly and she wanted a larger bowl of it. The salad dressing on the side was homemade and delicious. Finally, we ended our meal with their creme brûlée. It was a smaller portion and didn't come with fruit but I was still happy to be eating it! Because we split each course of the meal the end bill was super manageable!

The owner apparently feeds a good number of street cats and we loved the additional company. Our waitress (Heather maybe?) was incredible, giving us menu suggestions as well as tips for our visit to Culebritas we had planned for the next day. She was super friendly and we enjoyed chatting with her and learning a little of the history of the restaurant. The food was mostly amazing- we loved the escargot, it was a different preparation than I've had before with a sort of buttery herby sauce. Also loved the sides, the beans and rice were top notch and the mixed mash was very fun and interesting though a little dry without sauce- delicious with some sauce from other dishes. I heard very good things about the chicken and shrimp; unfortunately one star off as my husband and I bought got the Mahi-mahi and it was rather chewy and tough. The flavor was there but didn't really enjoy the texture. I would 100% go back and get the shrimp though!

We started with a bottle of wine similar to a Chardonnay. But let's talk food. I ordered the escargot. If you know anything about me it's that I absolutely love escargot. I will order them any where I can. I have tried them everywhere from NY to Ca and even Spain and Italy. Susies hands down wins in this category. The butter garlic combination is amazingly delicious. And they don't skimp on the escargot. There's plenty of them unlike other places that count them. The service at Susie's? As friendly and as personable as you want. Every one is happy and pleasant but then again you live on the best island that has the #3 best beach (Flamenco). I had the machi machi. Excellent choice! Plus the rice and beans which I grew up on, however they did not make them with sofrito which is really the secret ingredient to making them. But still delicious nonetheless. Over all, I'll continue to visit Susies each day every time I'm here. Since it was my birthday we ordered the Carmel cheese cake to go. Because some things need to be eaten in private. Shhh....

We shared the cod fritters to start.5 thin & crispy fried flat fritters in an order came with a side of shredded crab mixed with olives and red peppers (that would have been a great dip on its own). For dinner we had the churasco -- perfectly cooked to order skirt steak with rice (comes mixed with habichuelas/red beans and bits of ham) and a whole fried snapper which was huge and delicious. For dessert we shared the individual ramekin of key lime "pie" which was a layer of graham crust top with key lime pudding. Slightly tart filling and a sweet topping. Overall a very good experience and would highly recommend.

This time, we branched out and drove a little further to get to Azul. I swear the last time we ate at Seabourne must have been 10-12 years ago. Waiting for so long to return was well worth it. What a fabulous meal! We are mostly vegetarian/pescatarian so we ordered the tuna and shrimp dishes. We also had the Jibaro nachos. All three dishes were beyond our expectations. How you get that much flavor in nachos is impressive. For the shrimp, we were expecting, in usual Puertorican style, a couple of lettuce leaves as a side. It was a heaping arugula salad with six spicy shrimp on top! Such a nice treat on this island where true greens are hard to come by. The tuna was served with a mango salsa and was also excellent. Now let's turn to the wine list. On this island, its Tempranillo, Malbec or Rioja (gets boring fast!) or crappy California swill. Azul has a very nice selection of wines by the bottle which include a lovely Spanish wine from Priorat. Wines from Priorat are some of my favorite - inky, dark and smoky. We enjoyed the heck out of the Gine Gine and at only $25, it was an amazing bargain. The atmosphere was tropical romantic and service was perfect.

Sometimes when you build an anticipation for something long the experience ends up disappointing. I'm happy that wasn't the case here. My expectations were met and more. My wife's carnitas bowl an son's carne asada tacos were also phenomenal. I was considering a beer but decided to go with a margarita instead. The waitress suggested the watermelon margarita for a lighter refreshing taste. I went with it and she was right, refreshing m, light but with a slight punch. Went down smooth. I'd like to try the regular margarita next time. Service was friendly and the food came out quick despite it being packed the day before Thanksgiving. Ambaince is fun.
