Fried whole red snapper with cilantro cream sauce
Elsie W.

We were having a hard time finding a restaurant open on a Thursday night and stumbled upon this one. And it ended up being a pretty great experience. Our party had four adults and two kiddos. We ordered the Calimari to start. The sauce was delicious but the calimari itself was mediocre. We got the girls chicken fingers, fries and Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was for sure Kraft Mac and cheese - I would know the taste blind folded and my life depended on it. So I didn't love over paying for that (and it wasn't even a full box) but the kids are the whole bowl. The seafood is the super star. I ordered a whole snapper with cilantro cream sauce. I was very skeptical. I don't love cilantro but it wasn't overwhelming and was the perfect accompaniment for the fish. Paired great with rice and beans. My husband ordered the skirt steak and we both were a little skeptical but it was DELICIOUS! Just so yummy. The other party ordered creole shrimp, and gumbo. Creole shrimp was good and my friend said her gumbo wasn't what she was expecting (she was expecting Louisiana style gumbo) but was still yummy. Service was lack luster - but thankfully the main dishes were delicious

We did not have an enjoyable experience here sadly. Our food took 1.5 hours to come to us. We were neglected by our server and when asked to move back outside we were told they were reserving the open table we could clearly see for larger parties of 6 (no one came in and sat there by the way) and so we were left shivering inside the ice cold (loud) restaurant. Table was not bussed and we had we move plates to other table. Manager stated that she "took too many to go orders" which is why our food took forever. Kids bbq steak was chewy. Mofongo was bland, and kids pizzas were microwaved or at least tasted like it. Shrimp was over cooked and rubbery. Will not recommend.

Found this place close to our resort after a rain storm. Was the only place opened that we found. Drinks were ok. But definitely got the smallest plate of calamari I have ever seen. Don't recommend getting that. Octopus mofongo had a good sauce and octopus cooked well, but the mofongo itself was hard like concrete. Lastly had the whole fried fish (red snapper), not sure if it was because it's over fried, but the fish meat was dry and over cooked. I think the ambience is nice, but wouldn't recommend unless you just want to stay close.

Before you visit, you should make an appointment in case you need to wait outside (the night we visited was a rainy day...) The live lobster in the restaurant is super big and cool! The patio had A LOT OF mosquitoes, which we got bite so bad (we also asked to change an indoor table, but no response...). The waiter was super funny, friendly, and nice. We did not wait for too long for food, and the food was not that bad. Paella was the first dish ready, we actually doubt that the food is not fresh because the pot is not hot. The rice in the Paella was too dry and wet, so we did not like it a lot. Also, the taste was just ok. We also ordered a shrimp mofongo, many seafoods inside and we all liked it. Another dish has fish and Conch meat (forgot the name), the fish is very fresh and delicious. The price was suitable for its taste and size.

Sal y Pimiento was a perfect spot for a warm vacation night. We sat on the patio and listened to the coqui and cicadas and enjoyed the breeze off the nearby marina. I had an passionfruit margarita with a Tajín rim that was absolutely delicious! My cousin and I shared an order of ceviche that was full of plump cuts of fresh fish and refreshing peppers and onions. For my meal I got the mofongo mariscos mixtas and it was incredible. The octopus was tender and juicy, with a hefty portion of conch and shrimp covered with lime cilantro crema. Can't recommend enough.

What a great experience. Incredible view. The Platano soup was filled with flavor. As appetizers Fried cheese in a Guayaba sauce as well as the calamaria was spot on. Our server Oscar was attentive and in great spirits. Sangria, mofongo con churrasco was quite the experience. Great job guys. Exitos!

Good food, pretty busy place. We have to wait ti be seated and wait a lot more for the order to be taken. Food is good. Service is kind of slow. My husband asked for skirt steak and it was cold.

My family and I were staying in Fajardo and decided to try this beautiful restaurant. The view from the restaurant is beautiful and the food was pretty good. The portions were good, I'd recommend trying this restaurant if you're visiting the area.

Honestly, 5 stars are hard to come by in my opinion. That means you have to get EVERYTHING right. The staff needs to be friendly and efficient the food needs to be hot and delicious, timing needs to be executed to a T and the ambience and cleanliness needs to be top notch! Well, that was our experience Wednesday evening. We were greeted warmly when we arrived and ushered to our table immediately. Freddie our server has skillfully mastered the art of being attentive and thorough while also somehow giving us our space to enjoy each other's company. We witnessed numerous Covid cleaning practices while dining, putting any lingering hesitation about dining in public to rest. But of course most importantly, our meals were divine. I would whole heartedly recommend the carrot cake especially, it is light and flavorful without being too sweet. 5 stars!

Stuffed red snapper with shrimp, cost $150

TLDR: bland, overcooked, expensive seafood with long waits. We dined at Sal Y Pimienta last night expecting good seafood during our tropical getaway. We waited an hour for a table. Sadly, we were very disappointed. Our party of three ordered two red snapper fillets and the stuffed red snapper with shrimp. The fillets were over cooked and under seasoned. Other reviewers also have noted the seafood at this restaurant is bland. The fish didn't taste fresh despite being so close to the ocean. While the red snapper stuffed with shrimp was slightly better, the charge was $150. We were shocked at the price. The fish was nothing extraordinary. And yet we paid significantly more than even lobster. We could have had a 5 course meal for the price of that dish in San Francisco. Apparently the menu lists the price for stuffed fish with shrimp as $25. We explained that to the waiter and she said our snapper was special. It was ridiculous to pay $150 for a fish. Restaurant is very casual, it's a paper napkin type of place. Service was very slow as well. We waited one hour to get a table. Once we were seated, it took 20 minutes for a server to come. Drinks were very sweet. Unfortunately, the mediocre experience became even worse when two of us had food poisoning after the meal. this was our worst dining experience in Puerto Rico, at this restaurant. Would not recommend!

We stayed at the condos a couple minutes away so we decided to give them a shot based on the good reviews. Our waitress gave us all the best suggestions on the menu. I ordered the monfongo y camerones (shrimp) with the cilantro sauce. It was so good i almost ordered it twice just to take the second order home. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want some amazing Puerto Rican food.

I normally don't write long reviews, but this experience needed to be shared. My partner and I…read moretraveled from New York to Puerto Rico to visit his family for Thanksgiving week, and we decided to take his parents, siblings, and nephew out for a nice pre-Thanksgiving dinner. We saw Kalizo , thought it looked upscale and promising, and chose it for what was supposed to be a special family night. Instead, it turned into one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. From the moment we arrived, the service was disrespectful and careless. We were a party of six, and the host simply pointed to a section and told us to "sit over there" -- no greeting, no walk-through. He dropped the menus on the table and walked away. We sat for over 20 minutes with no one approaching us for drinks or orders. We had to stop multiple staff members just to ask, "Can we please get a waiter?" Each time we were told someone was coming, but no one did. When the waiter finally showed up, he acted rushed, uninterested, and dismissive. He kept telling us that several items we wanted were "not available," rushing us to pick something else. I ended up ordering something quick because I honestly didn't know if he'd ever come back. Meanwhile, there were only about three other tables occupied, and we noticed something very uncomfortable: The English-speaking white customers were getting A1 treatment -- constant refills, servers checking in on them, drinks delivered correctly, food synchronized -- everything. Our table, where we were mostly speaking Spanish with my partner's family, was basically ignored. Our drinks came out wrong. Refills took three or more requests. Food came out one plate at a time, so half the table was done eating before the rest of us even received our meals. My plate was missing the sides and sauces it came with. I had to physically get up and find someone to ask for them. At one point, after asking three times for a Sprite refill, I just stood up and went straight to someone and said, "Can you please just bring me a Sprite can, a to-go box, and the check?" because I had enough. The food itself? Not good. Definitely not worth the price. And the service? Terrible. A woman who worked there quietly apologized to us and said she saw everything happening, but she couldn't intervene because she wasn't a server. That says enough about the environment. Overall, it felt like we were treated differently simply because they assumed we were locals or because we were speaking Spanish. Meanwhile, the tables of English-speaking tourists got excellent service. What was supposed to be a nice family dinner turned into a frustrating, embarrassing, and disappointing experience. I would not recommend this place, especially if you're expecting fair service or celebrating something special.

We do travel with a wheelchair. The server was very good and well knowledgeable on the menu. He was even photographed in the menu. We ordered a couple cocktails as well as many appetizers. We didn't order any entrees, as our family likes to try many things. My wife's favorite is ceviche and she was impressed by this dish. (Order it) We also ordered fish bites. Solid choice as the guava sauce was memorable. La arepas de coconut. Solid. The fish empanadas were great. Definitely order those. But calamari was chewy and overcooked. I'd pass on this. Cocktails were amazing. Spicy margarita is spicy!! I had a mojito which was delicious. You won't go wrong with any cocktail. Server was great. He did mention to me that we should order soon as the kitchen will get busy. We waited as we were enjoying our dinner. (We didn't have any problems) I'd go back. I'd also suggest sticking to your plan. It's your evening and don't let service control the experience. At the end of it...you control the tip = thank you.
