Who doesn't enjoy a beautiful evening out with family and friends enjoying a ballgame? If you want a nice time out without the prices and parking woes of the major leagues the Keys are a great team to watch. Since it's a small stadium pretty much every seat has a great view, and it's a quick walk to get around the stadium. Add in both weekly and one off special events (last night was bark in the park!) and you can keep a variety of ages entertained. Fireworks shows on many summer weekend nights doesn't hurt, either. read more

The Frederick Keys and/or Nymeo Field left fans hanging without information for 80 minutes following a rain delay. The Frederick Keys had a scheduled 6:00 pm game on July 28. There were heavy thunderstorms between 4:30 and 5:30 pm, after which the weather was clear and dry. After the heavy rains it is understandable that there would be a small rain delay in starting the game. The stadium was open by 5:30 and letting fans in. However, we were left sitting there until 7:20 pm without any prediction when the game would start (despite several announcements promising a start time). The only information we got was that we were certainly free to spend money on concessions while waiting. At 7:20 they finally announced the game would be postponed. This is a callous disregard for the fans, their time, and money. If the field was unplayable due to weather, or whatever the reason for the postponement, the Keys should not have wasted 1 hour and 20 minutes of the fans' time before announcing the decision. read more

I used to love this place. Five years ago, I would have given five stars, but now, forget it. The ticket prices are reasonable but the food sucks and is way, way overpriced. Bring in some good food vendors and lower the prices. Or at least make the food match the price. Ten bucks for a lemonade? Spare me! Editing to say more: they let you bring in empty containers to fill with water, but the water tastes terrible! We were under very hot conditions, and people were leaving left and right. My wife got overheated and we left, too. I don't like complaining, but the food and drink policy is seriously backward. "It's a business"? Then stop trying to pretend like it's a public service. read more

Two weeks ago, I attended an 11 am Frederick Key's game with my two-year-old grandson, daughter, husband and my 87-year-old father. It was an extremely hot day. By the 5th inning, it was pretty uncomfortable for several members of our party (including me). Then my daughter went to Guest Services to see about getting out of the heat. That is when Ben G. came to the rescue and relocated our group to an air conditioned sky box. The last half of the game was extremely enjoyable despite the loss. I love supporting local baseball, especially the minor league teams. After having no Fourth of July plans, we opted 2 days prior to get tickets for a game. This was the best of both worlds for Independence Day - baseball and fireworks! Free parking and lots of activities for kids. Various concessions, but they lines were SO LONG and took forever. We ended up waiting until the bottom of the 6th inning to get food hoping it would die down a bit. Still stood in line for over 20 minutes. I'll say that the black bean veggie burger I got (with chips and cole slaw for $10.50) was surprisingly good. Bottled water could stand to be a little cheaper, $3.75 for one bottle. Their sound system definitely needs an upgrade. The female emcee throughout the night could not be understand on her handheld mic. The sound was very low. Anyway, the game was fun, fireworks show was worth it and there were ushers helping out all over the stadium. If you don't mind waiting around a little after the game ends, getting out is fairly quick. Fortunately my kids wanted to run the bases so that ate up about 20 minutes of us letting cars clear out. read more

Very nice minor league ballpark in Frederick, Maryland. It's hard to say no when the walk-up price for seats behind home plate is only $15. Good seats,quite comfortable but better because we were able to spread out with empty seats between us, despite being in section 101 row E. The announcer called attendance at around 4000, which is a stretch. The stadium seats 11000 and it wasn't even close to a third filled. Pros Announcements were easy to hear on the field. Bathrooms were clean and there were enough stalls and urinals in the mens room. The very nice lady working one of the beer stands was very nice. And yes, she checked *everyone's* ID. Easy to get around and not very crowded. Free parking! Cons No discount on beer prices for being minor league. They're still $8 to $10. Tip: Park way away from the field. It's minor league - there are going to be lots of foul balls. read more

This is one nice ballpark with excellent views. I did find a bad seat in the place. The "upper level" seating is not an actual upper level but the top half of the main seating area. You use the same steps to reach both levels. The suites are located behind home plate and end at the dugouts. The rest of the stadium is open Closer to home plate is reserved seating with fold down chairs. Further out are general admission bleachers. Neither the concourse or seating area circle the ballpark, the ballpark ends at the outfield wall, with the scoreboard placed outside the stadium. The stadium has one scoreboard and one video board. Both looked outdated. The stadium was a little less than half full, but it was extremely hot. The fans were into the game. Apparently it's a tradition to shake keys during the 7th inning. That was fascinating even if the team was named after Francis Scott Key. There was a cooling station where mist fell on fans. read more

Beautiful park. Fun crowd. Get a 1/2 pound burger and a more than foot-long 1/2 pound hotdog from the stand thats near the end when you turn to the right after entering the stadium. Last night the game was ended by rain after the 7th inning (the Keys won 2-1), and night's fireworks were canceled, but they're usually great. There are also special events. One included Bryan Votaggio bringin some Volt food action to the stadium. Nice! read more

Went to my first minor league game ever last weekend and LOVED it! The stadium was jam packed to the point that only standing room tickets were on sale when we arrived at game time. I heard that's not normally the case and the crowd was mostly there for the cowboy monkey rodeo (yes, cowboy monkey rodeo) and post game fireworks but it was a great atmosphere. The concession prices are not minor league, let me tell you. Aquafina is $4, just like at Nats Park. You can do a little better on beers though... A large beer at the Brewer's Alley stand is $8.75 but you can only get the one local brand they sell. I tried a Maryland chardonnay there for $6 that wasn't very good but that's what I get for ordering wine at a ball park. I remember other stands selling Flying Dog, as well as the usual imports and domestics. Ticket prices are pretty cheap, though you pay $3-4 more if you buy your tix on game day instead of ahead of time. It was a pretty close game and the Keys won in dramatic fashion in the 9th after the opposing pitcher walked the batter with the bases loaded. During and after the game, there were performance by the cowboy monkey rodeo, which is indeed cowboy monkeys riding dogs and herding sheep. After the rodeo, there were fireworks that lasted about 10 minutes and were way better than I expected. Another cool thing is there's virtually zero traffic around the stadium and extra parking at the school next door. It was a breeze to park and leave after the game! read more

Frederick is a great day trip and there's no better way to end a day than at the ballpark. Harry Grove Stadium, home of the Frederick Keys (Class A Advanced Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles), provides good clean family fun at reasonable prices. I enjoy going to minor league parks to see how each team interacts with their fans and the community. At Harry Grove Stadium, they embrace local heritage. The team is named for Francis Scott Key, author of the Star Spangled Banner (who happens to be buried nearby in case you're into that). Their mascot is a coyote cleverly named "Keyote." He is very visible during the games and gets the crowd going. At one point, Keyote will even get up on the dugouts and encourage everyone to "shake your keys!" The park itself is very open. The wide concourse allows for crowds to socialize and/or grab some food or drink (I noticed a decent beer selection) while watching the game without obstruction. As at most minor league parks, every seat offers a great view of the game. I attended a game in April when there wasn't much of a crowd because the weather was still a tad bit chilly so it was easy to wander around and explore. It was also clear despite the smaller crowd that the Keys have a good core of local fans. read more

This is the home of the Frederick Keys, which means minor league baseball up close and personal. Of course there's cold beer and hot dogs, goofy promotions and fireworks every Friday evening, but what makes this place special is the local character, community involvement (local middle school band is warming up to play the National Anthem as I write this) and friendly relaxed atmosphere. I love love love a nice drive to the mountains. This stadium sits on the outskirts. The staff are super nice and fun. You need to see Keyote who is awesome. The kids love it here because they have all kinds of snacks,rides and mini areas to toss baseballs and catch them from the game. This is a family stadium. The food prices were great. I've been to many ball fields in my lifetime in the Washington, DC area, and being a huge baseball fan a stadium doesn't have to go far to satisfy me. Having said this, the Harry Grove Stadium on July 19, 2014 was the WORST experience in a ball park. The game was fine, but the concessions and seating policy was a mess. Having waited over 20 minutes standing in line for a hamburger and a beer, and being 56 years old, I was told I needed my ID to be served a beer and refused to serve me. No clear signage was present stating their policy. I have never been asked to show ID at any stadium. Needless to say I was upset, but I went back to my seat, retrieved my ID and after standing in line for another 10 minutes, got my beer and food and returned to my seat. Having not taken two sips, I was confronted by a security officer who told me I could not drink me my beer because I was sitting in a family zone and needed to move to another section if I wanted to consume. People were standing in front of the family zone signage and couldn't be clearly read. I had to get up again, move to the picnic area to finish my meal while during all this time missing a good two to three innings. All of this hassle because I wished to have one beer and burger at the ball park. I can understand wanting to designate a family friendly zone, but lousy signage and terrible concession management(the food was really nothing to write home about either) will make me think twice before I ever visit Harry Grove Stadium again with much finer ball parks in the area. read more
