I have no idea why this isn't showing as one of the top museums in Maryland?!? This museum is amazing and I haven't found any childrens museums that top it in either Frederick or Washington County. Even Port Discovery in Baltimore doesn't compare to this one in my opinion. There is so much for children of all ages and interest to do here. The staff is so friendly and helpful. You cannot beat the cost!! Last time , we arrived right when a staff member was tagging and letting some monarch butterflies go. She told us they would be flying to Mexico for the season. It was a neat experience for my toddler to see!! The brand new art room is amazing!!

Sea life exploration.

Absolutely loved it! Perfect summer spot for kids on a hot day. And so diverse. A little for everyone. My son loved the legos, space exhibit, robotics section and art! But there's so much more. The playrooms are adorable and so many props to play with. Friendly staff. Only warning: why is the work there's a Civil War room with a cabinet with civil war medicine amputation equipment is beyond my understanding. I had zero interest in explaining to a five year that the in a war men had their legs sawed off. Trust me...skip that room. Otherwise...fabulous!!!

Discovery Station is a great hands on STEAM museum located in Hagerstown Maryland. Discovery Station offers weekly hands on programs, and has a variety of exhibits for children ranging from infancy through fifth grade.

Playing with robots.

What an amazing place for kids of all ages to play and explore. The kids are having a blast & the numerous exhibits satisfy their ADHD. They could play here all day and not get bored. The admission is fair for what you get and they also do birthday parties for a reasonable cost.

We had a great time at the Discovery Station. We loved the large Robotics area. Centered around Lego robot building, programming and achieving goals with the robots. My daughter also loved the arts & crafts area. We spent hours here painting and doing a coloring table which I think we spent most of our day on. Also nice displays on trains, baseball, japan, the civil war, instruments, a building area, a play kitchen area, and a nice sized play area for small children. You could spend all day here. We almost did.

The museum is located in a beautiful white marble building that used to be bank, as can be seen by the vault near the main entrance. We were the only ones there on a Saturday afternoon, which was a little surprising. While we had a nice time, the place needs a serious upgrade; most of the toys and signs and artifacts felt right out of the 70s and 80s. We went with our 8 month old who seemed to have a great time with the exhibits he was able to touch. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. $7 fee for adults, which was a fair price IMO.

We needed something to do, and Mr. Ed's came up in a Yelp search. I wasn't sure what to expect. Wow!! There is sooooo much to see - it was a bit overwhelming. We walked the garden and enjoyed all of the flowers, adorned trees and "sculptures", outside. Never, in my life, have I thought about buying or collecting elephant memorabilia- after walking through the museum, the idea doesn't seem crazy. The candy available for purchase, brought back fond childhood memories! I was thrilled to be able to share many of my childhood favorites with the kids. The fudge? Oh my gosh!!! So many delicious flavors. The warm, spiced cashews filled the place with heavenly scent. I challenge you to leave without buying several things. Definitely recommend. It was so much fun.

You're in luck. Everywhere you look there are elephants! The smell of the store is heaven for any chocolate lover. As soon as you walk in you are greeted with the sights and smells of candy and sweets. They have fudge, truffles, corn nuts, vintage candies, unique candies, crickets, you name it! Would be a great place to grab items for a sweet gift basket. They sell mugs and you can fill them with candy and they spruce it up and make it cute. Like most other vintage candy stores, you can fill a bucket and pay by the pound ($7.99 per pound). The staff were very very friendly and helpful. We got a decent variety of their homemade chocolate items, vintage candy, fudge, and even some socks! You can explore the grounds around the building and see all the cute and kitschy yard decor. Stop by the pond and see how many frogs you can count. We spotted over 20! We nibbled on some of the chocolate covered animal crackers on the ride home and they were delicious. Check it out even if just for the thousands of elephants!

National Museum of Civil War Medicine - 01.21.25

National Museum of Civil War Medicine

Military Museum [Frederick MD]…read more We had some time on our last day in MD before heading to the airport... from Linthicum Heights we drove some 50 miles to Frederick. We found a spot on a metered street parking in front of the museum. Admission is $9.50/adult. The museum is dedicated to telling the medical story of the Civil War. There are a lot to see... and learn. The exhibits were great and educational. We learned how the creation of Civil War medicine impacted the present day. Each gallery offered different exhibits following through the footsteps of the soldiers and surgeons and the harsh conditions and personal sacrifices they went through. I can't even imagine how they evacuate the wounded... an "ambulance" then was a wagon pulled by two horses and carted off to a medical facility. Or how about how they did amputations, amputations were the most common surgical operation during the conflict with more than 60,000 being performed. The wounded soldiers suffered different mortality rates depending on where the amputation took place on the body. There are two floors of exhibits. Stairs and an elevator are accessible to the top floor. There are bathrooms on both levels. I am not in the medical field and found the museum very interesting and educational. We didn't expect to stay as long as we did. We even got a parking ticket when we got back to our car ¯\_('~')_/¯ Review #3674
